Interesting: Bill Daly informed both the Lightning and Avalanche that the Stanley Cup will not be travelling to Russia this year.
For those unaware: every player on the Cup winning team gets 24 hours with the trophy. Typically they bring it to their hometown and do whatever. Sounds like Russian players won’t get that luxury this year.

As a casual hockey fan, it's shocking to see Colorado made it. Weren't they a dumpster fire not too long ago when Sakic first took over and fans wanted him gone?

If my memory serves me right, a lot of that was on Patrick Roy and not Joe Sakic. But the fans for some reason sided with Roy over Sakic. I think. I’m not entirely sure. Also the Avalanche tried really hard to steal Kyle Dubas from the Leafs and the fans wanted him over Sakic because they felt he was an old man that didn’t know what he was doing and Dubas would turn the team around. Given what Dubas has done to build the Leafs they might have been right, but Sakic turned out fine anyway. Basically they struggled to build a team around Nathan McKinnon until Sakic finally got to make the moves he wanted to make and draft the players he wanted to draft. Over the past 5-ish years he’s shown he knows what he’s doing and the fans that thought he was a useless old-timer look really stupid now.
