I sought out the Hard Times promo because that's where we're at Daddy and segued into a Corny rant/answer about Dusty and not needing the belt. Lotta dudes get that level. Super over and always maintain their heat, so either always hovering or if they do get title wins... brief reigns. Always hated when guys got that way because then you know. Becky pre-the man felt like she was in this territory. I hate it as a fan because when you talk about it online it's dismissed with this logic. Be that as it may, I'm a fan of theirs. I'm sorry, but seeing them treated as less than others who "need" it kills my enjoyment. I'm sorry but going all Joe Dirt Dad on the situation... so we didn't put him over, so what look at him dudes OVER.
Like I don't wanna watch endless HBK 2nd Run World Title defenses that go nowhere. Fuck you I'm not investing in a Roddy challenges the new roh champ.
I dunno does it bother anyone else? I mean it's good to get solid hand/reliable character over in the job security department, but I'm not here to watch you go through the motions. I wanna see my boys do well. Despite always desiring that JTG spot... the guys I liked just offered more. I understand why Luke Harper hated his namesake for this reason.
Dunno boyos anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it the kiss of death for a rising babyface?

Like I understand to really ride out is a dream especially because this business spits them out and you kinda want that as a face, but moreso from your end. Not interested in the financials and having a niche, I want to see guys WIN and do important stuff. Takes some enjoyment out of things always knowing "that's for someone else booboo" - the shit Dusty said to Austin about his push.
I dunno when I was a fan of someone even recently I dreaded them getting this treatment. That's what killed me about Cena's initial run. Because it wasn't my boy. At some point you're just wasting my time if you're not there. "He doesn't want it" Then GTFOMF.

I'm not a big fan of the "doesn't need the belt because they're already popular" logic. Only really works when it's a beloved veteran "who can't win the big one" like Foley, Benoit, or maybe* RVD. And didn't ROH kill like half a dozen potential top babyfaces using this so-called logic? TNA too with Monty Brown and Samoa Joe.
*Truth is I lost a lot of interest in RVD when he failed time and time again to win the big one in 01-02. His 2006 win was too little, too late in my book. More of a golf clap than a true markout moment for me. Then he ruined his big push and proved WWE right the whole time. That also hurt.
EDIT: I guess Undertaker is a good counterargument. Rarely lost interest in him despite not a lot of championship success. BUT he's also a special case who existed in his own separate universe most of the time.

There was obviously a point in John Cena's career when it simply wasn't necessary anymore.
He was the marquee name, and the prospect of beating John Cena - title or not was an accolade in itself. Hell, feuding with Cena was an accomplishment.

As a fan it drove me insane when WCW would rather watch itself go out of business than give Bill Goldberg another run on top. Granted, that era was all about putting on the most exciting television show imaginable and putting the title on the 'invincible wrestler' would have been the antithesis but still.
It's meant to be a personality driven business so naturally the more successful your favourites are the more they're going to feature on television. The only exception is if you're a fan of a jobber and you get upset at the company for not putting the WWE Championship on them.
Sure, enjoy being a Curt Hawkins fan and listening to Pavement on your Walkman but don't blame the company if you wind up disappointed.

Hell, feuding with Cena was an accomplishment. That wasn't Peak Cena, though. That's other-side-of-the-Bell-curve Cena, where he's secure in his legacy with his ten thousand reigns and seeking other challenges. Up and comers can't get away with 'the title doesn't interest me the way it should.'

It’s the absolute worst place to be for a babyface that keeps doing the j o b, with heels they can do it until the cows come home as the crowd wants them to lose
Look at Braun Strowman, crazy to think he was one of the most over babyface in WWE now he is controlling his narrative but he lost so many title opportunities people stopped caring and when they gave the belt (last minute decision) was too little too late.
My brother was the biggest Zack Ryder fan ever, was super happy when he won the IC title. Then years of not seeing him unless you watch mainevent etc you could tell his fandom diminished significantly

I'm a pretty big Sheamus fan. When he started out, he got some big, shocking wins, yet was believable enough to be a solid upper-card wrestler. The fans went wild when Sheamus stood up to Mark Henry. The 19-second saga turned the fans against him. I've always thought that was BULLSHIT!
