player.fm/series/talk-is-jericho-1901467/how-i-survived-a-pulmonary-embolismDuring the fat Jericho era he was suffering from a pulmonary embolism, which is where a clot from the legs breaks off and lands in a lung, causing to slowly fill with fluid. In rare cases like his, multiple clots form o.O. Unreal he survived it and can still wrestle. These turn fatal extremely fast and generally destroy the lungs. Was what killed Roddy Piper too. I had a cat die to this and it was horrible. It went from him being fine, to dying with us not being able to do anything to help him within two weeks. Edit: Fucking hell he still has clots and is has been on blood thinners since he return and feud with Kingston. Losing the weight was not optional, keeping the weight after buffing up for Japan during COVID likely is what caused the clots in the first place.

I hope all these pundits that made fun of Jericho during this time feel terrible now. They acted like Jericho weighed as much as big Sal from ECW. Eat shit.

Jericho at the end of the interview made a great fucking point. Where are the people talking about just how much weight he lost as fast as he did? Suddenly they do not give a shit about his weight at all. I mean at the start of the Kingston feed he was fat Jericho. Now he is in the best shape he has been in since his his WWE days.

I'm glad he's better and has his health under control. What I will say, and this seems to be a common theme with wrestlers, is that a lot of fans don't comment on appearance just to be assholes. A lot of time it's because the wrestlers look to be having health problems and fans would rather they get healthy than risk more damage. So far Jericho, Omega, Moxley and Cole all came under fire and it was all for good reason.

So far Jericho, Omega, Moxley and Cole all came under fire and it was all for good reason. That's a great point. And considering he was obviously quite ill - at what point did Jericho take some time off? Continuing to wrestle while hurt or sick doesn't make you a hero. We're continually told, it's not the 80s anymore. Yet, this is carny stuff just going back to work. And probably in spite of it. Adam Cole suffers a torn labrum , and is obviously losing mass yet, still wrestles at Forbidden Door and receives a concussion. A normal person will take 6 months to recover from a torn labrum, and Adam Cole isn't exactly superhuman. This was a big part of the drug and alcohol abuse problems of the past with wrestlers self medicating to numb pain and leading to addiction issues. Just silly stuff.

He disappeared for a few months when he was on tour with Fozzy, and people assumed he was just still on tour. He took three months off last year. Then for two months did one match where Ortiz & Santana did the match and he just tagged in for simple stuff, and a second match where Hager did all the work, with him just coming in for the finish.
Jericho averaged 5 minutes in the ring a month for a good 6 month block between his match with MJF and his first match with Kingston.

His clots were from venous thrombosis via visceral fat. Literally came after he beefed up for Japan, then let himself go when COVID hit. The weight he carried turned quickly to fat when he stopped working out.
Jericho as far I know never used steroids because he has a freakishly high natural testosterone level and generally has had the same look most of his career outside of fat Jericho.

I think Jericho admitted to it in his response to the 83 Weeks episode from Bischoff on him a few years back. He tested positive to steroids not long after he signed with the WWF and while he believes it was petty on WCW part he didn't deny dabbling with them through out his career.

Jericho failed wellness tests due to his high testosterone levels. Also it is clear that since he has been in AEW he is not roiding up.

I'd be shocked if every single wrestler not on a wellness policy isn't cruising on test there's no reason not too. No way you can wrestle 52 weeks per year without it

Oh right, I missed the context of the steroids discussion. I'd have to dig it up but I can remember being surprised at how matter of fact he was about taking steroids before going to the WWF. I haven't heard anything since beyond that reddit thread I'm sure you're referencing c. Also have you seen some of these AEW wrestlers iNCY? If they're taking steroids, they're doing an awful job with it. Except for Brian Cage.

Marko Stunt was clearly roided out to the max.
And most people do not juice anymore since they learned it causes ligament tears. This generation grew up watching their favorite guys go out for 9 to 12 months with these injuries and now know they were from steroid use. The modern wrestler does not see blowing up a muscle group as an acceptable cost to add some body tone that almost no one really cares about.

If they're taking steroids, they're doing an awful job with it. Except for Brian Cage. The high T level stuff was from a different podcast Jericho did. It is not uncommon in prowrestlers for them to be in the top five percent of a normal curve distribution for testosterone as those are the people with the "wrestler look." But that is also the metric used to determine if someone is using. He dabbled in them in WCW he said but never routinely used them or cycled them as he did not think they did anything when he took them.

What people may not realise is that many amateur athletes are on a low does of Test 24/7. It is not to get huge, it is to assist with muscle repair which is why steroids were invented in the first place.

I don't really believe much of what Jericho says these days, he's out here today whining about Brock using a homophobic slur back in 2016 ( adding a new layer to a story he's told 1000 times over ) backstage after beating Orton up.. but coincidently forgetting he was the one that was forced to apologise to GLAAD back in 2009 for both being racially insensitive and using a homophobic slur in the space of 5 minutes. But back on the steroid talk - he got bigger around that Undisputed Title reign.
