Pro-tip if you don’t have an AC unit: stick fans in open windows facing outward. Try and keep the rest of the windows shut. The fan should pull hot stagnant air out and keep the place somewhat cooler than if it were pointed inward or at you. If it cools down enough at night that there’s a breeze or cooler air outside than inside, turn the fan(s) around so that air gets pulled inside.
Also if you have a large bucket you can fill with ice, put it in the centre of whatever room you spend most of your time in. Obviously the ice will melt but the ice and cold water should help bring the temp down a couple degrees.

Also you can wear something wet and have a fan blow on you.

Yeah Emperor, I definitely think this heat counts as a valid to stay home! I've only just started a new job and not got all my equipment yet, so hopefully I'll be able to to the same thing soon. Though at the speed it's taking to get sorted, it'll probably be icy season by the time it arrives 😅

That happens with recently paved asphalt before it has fully cured after a month or two. Good thing they caught it since it's a runway, but otherwise not really indicative of anything other than being fucking hot.

Sounds more like the asphalt was not made for the level of heat they are experiencing. Happened in the US a few years back where roads were melting in the Northwest during the heat dome. Basically they used the cheaper stuff and it gets sticky when it gets super hot.
UK is out sanding the roads to stop the melting today. Which makes me wonder why the hell did the US not do the same?

Damn parts of UK to hit 107 today. Seeing power network failures in some areas as transformers overheat. Do not travel warnings issued for some areas here the heat is expected to be the highest.
Rail system taking a beating too with rails buckling and overhead electrical melting down.
Funny how many places can set record high temperatures and people claim it is not proof of climate change. Like what do you think repeatedly breaking records is? Or people claiming that the climate change is clearly just normal fluctuations, despite infrastructure failing because the conditions are outside of what it was built to handle.

I went to Vegas about 15 years ago and one of the days we were there it hit 110F. I couldn't go outside for more than a few minutes. We spent as much time as possible inside casinos because the AC was broken at the place we were staying. Only went there in the dead of night (not that it was much cooler but it was bearable) to sleep a little then headed out once it got hot again.
I can't imagine how shitty it must be to have temperatures like that in a place that isn't built for it.

Insane. That was the article I was reading and assumed it was only shitty phones. Assumed you pay several hundred for a phone you get some thermal paste or something in the fucker.

My friends in Scunthorpe reported it as being 42C. No thanks.
My daughter went to Europe a few years ago and it was in the 40's the whole time.
Honestly, this is why I travel in Spring and Fall. Cheaper usually AND weather is usually more temperate as I hate heat.

My phone has been behaving normally as far as I can tell. Samsung Galaxy.
Temperature is expected to drop sharply tomorrow. 22C is the peak forecast in my city. Might be 25-30 in the south.

Your phone will be fine, I come from Australia we eat pieces of shit like 42 degree days for breakfast! Yes... Yes, we do... Don't judge us! Don't leave you phone on your dashboard or in the car generally, or on a window sill and it will be fine. They can definitely handle more temperature. It is really about the phone's ability to dissipate heat, which is harder if it's hotter outside than in. We are definitely much softer in Australia vs when I was a kid. Our house has three air conditioners, including the whole upstairs being ducted. When I was just a wee little iNCY in school, we would frequently be in class in 38 degree temperatures, no A/C just s stupid ceiling fan that barely turned. I also remember my parents cars not being air conditioned and how bloody hot the car was to get in... Third degree burns from the seatbelt buckle. The hottest day I can remember experiencing was Black Saturday when we had the horrific bushfires here. I actually remember posting about it on the old boards that I could see flames on the horizon from the top of the hill in my housing estate and it was above 46.4 degrees celsius outsite, with a howling Northerly wind, it felt like the apocalypse. The whole week had been in the high 30's low 40's with zero % humidity, I have experienced nothing like it.

I remember waking up Black Saturday and thinking, today was the day. And unfortunately it was.
3 consecutive days above 43C/109F for Melbourne, with the temp peaking at 45C/113F) on 30 January.
Up North here, we hit the 44 on that Saturday - it was one of the hottest, driest days I can remember. This was all towards the end of the Millennium drought aswell so the countryside was bone dry.

Various wildfires in the UK yesterday, primarily in the London area but also a handful further north.
Yesterday seemed to be the peak of the heatwave, thankfully, hopefully there won't be any more to come. This year, at least.

I'm never bitching about the Aussie heat again after experiencing the UAE in summer and it only got up to 42c when I was there. I can't imagine how bad the 50c days must be.
