Do the songs have to be from one direction or can it be child to parent as well as parent to child?

I have a fairly ironclad foolproof top two, so now I’m wondering which one of my songs is most likely to get to me in round 2. Maiden might wreck it with the first pick though.

I am picking my second favorite with the hope that my favorite will be more likely to make it back to me.

My wife and I used to sing this one a lot to our daughter when she was a baby (who would undoubtedly tell us that song is too country for her) and it’s just one of my absolute favorite messages in a song.

I figured there was no way someone was going to steal any of my picks , I had them all lined up and My Boy was going to be my #3 pick and of course it's Lony who comes in a swipes it. 

As a stepfather as well the song is just so poignant and really says everything you can't always put into words. I've known my step son since he was born , I still have yet to miss any of his games and he is as much my own as my daughter is even though we look nothing alike. Great pick Lony. Unfortunately.

As I said this is a personal draft to me and very few songs ever have instantly resonated my like this one. As someone who grew up without a father myself and now a father of a beautiful daughter I remember having such similar conversations years before this came out so needless to say when I heard the lyrics it made me instantly emotional and still does. 

They say dads are supposed to shape you, in a way I guess mine did

Just Fishin' (Trace Adkins)

Again with the personal touch but fishing is my favorite hobby in the world and I love the days that my daughters goes out there with me and we spend hours just casting and chatting. It's just a relaxing day and a great distraction from everything else and it distracts her enough to start to open up and I hope that continues through her life. There always be a rod and reel at my house for her and I'm ready to fish any time she needs to. The song is so resonate with me for those very reasons and she will probably never understand just how important those days are to me.

In My Daughters eyes is another beautiful song and especially resonate for mothers I would think. Either way I love it and love the pick from IM. It'll be nice to get a mothers perspective on this type of song as well.

Whoops, read that story wrong a long time ago, then saw it on a list of parent-child songs when researching, I know Paul sang it so I’m not sure why I wrote that wrong. It’s a song by Paul McCartney, credited to both, for Julian Lennon. I’ll come up with a new one really quick, because a little more research indicates that Lennon didn’t think of it as a song for Julian.

In all seriousness , IM took my next pick in My Little Girl - I'd say it was my #1 song for my daughter before that Kane Brown joint. Beautiful song that encapsulates so much of what being a dad to a little girl is to me.

I Hope You Dance is another one I really like , wasn't on my list but I totally get it and as a parent I know I want my kids to be fearless in life and take chances chasing what they really want.

Another poignant one for me and Chesney's best song. I wasn't super young or anything when I had my daughter , at least in age but I was still widely immature and had a ton of wild oats to sew so I remember being scared shitless when my wife told me she was pregnant. It turned into a mixture of excitement and trepidation as she was pregnant but the minute my daughter was born I knew it was all worth it and as you watch her grow it just becomes more and more rewarding. This song encapsulates that journey beautifully. I love watching my girl grow every day but also dread her growing up and not being my little girl anymore. It's just a weird feeling that you can't fully explain.
