An Iced Earth cover of a Johnny Cash song that manages to sound nothing like Iced Earth or Johnny Cash. Nah. Not my jam. lol I did say it paled in comparison to the original. Cut me some slack. I'm trying! Of course, I appreciate it! You know I'm a sucker for Symphony X. Your video had the consequence of my learning that a new Volbeat album dropped December last year. I was completely oblivious until today. So thank you!

One more round and then I'll stop spamming this thread with country music videos...at least until tomorrow.
This was my brother's favorite country song. One of my favorites as well. So catchy!
Time for a little Billy GOAT Cyrus. You know what's cool about this song? I can go a decade without hearing it and still know the words by heart...
My favorite Reba song was brought up in the other thread. Here it is...
Poor Alabama got the shaft in the draft. This song, which combines two of my great early-mid 90s loves, baseball & country, was my favorite of theirs...

Soon as LT broke out the Otis I knew it was time. Time for what? A little sittin'... Before that it was another catchy country classic from the 90s... Edit: And now it's time for a little Hmm hmm him. Al Bundy knew what was up. A true man of culture... Fun Fact: I had no idea this was a real song until like 5 years ago. Until then I thought it was made up for that one episode of Married With Children.

More Jerry. Hadn't heard this one in a while. Just now realizing I stole a ton of lines from it ... ============ *Time for a Day One trilogy. Next 3 are songs I discovered on my very first day of listening to country music. Had the radio on for hours while playing game after game of Dusty Diamond's All Star Softball on the ol' NES. Good times... ============ This instant classic provided me with the harshest diss in my arsenal circa 1991. One you better believe I overused... =========== This song had my brother* and I marking out from the very first word. See, because we were playing Dusty Diamond's and the coolest player in that game was a devil named Diablo who hit homerun after homerun with the MACE he swung. It was this beautiful one in a million coincidence... *My brother would soon go off country music, and later LIE by claiming never he never really liked it anyway outside a few songs (mainly just Meet In The Middle and some Garth), but I know the truth. He was right there with me in those early days. UNLESS he was telling the truth all along and just had to put up with it because I was older and bigger so I controlled the radio? *shrugs* ============== Which brings me to the biggest bust of my country music fandom....the "Sabu at Barely Legal" of country music. Like I said, we listened to the country station for hours while playing Dusty Diamond's on that fabulous first day. Heard banger after banger. At 9 pm they aired the current Country Top 10. This would soon become THE big radio draw for me. Aww yeah. The cream of the crop. This is gone be good... So that first night's Top 10 was like the two songs listed above, probably some Alabama and Reba, maybe a little Brooks & Dunn, and the usual nightly dose of 4 Garth tunes. Finally it was time for #1. The best of the best. Our anticipation was palpable. This was gonna be AWESOME. Somehow even better than The Thunder Rolls! And then this dropped.... Remember that scene in Wayne's World where Benjamin revamps the Wayne's World intro and Wayne & Garth are all confused? Yeah, it was kind of like that. It just didn’t live up to our “omg THE #1 song!” hype. And that's how Dwight Yoakam's You're The One became a running gag between the two of us. For the next two decades+ either my brother or I would blurt out a "Y-y-y-yer The One" in certain scenarios while using this super exaggerated accent that Yoakam doesn't even really use in country music's biggest bust.

Can't abide all this Collin Raye hate in the other thread. This is my favorite song of his. I'ma pretend the narrator was a Moe's regular who decided to get sober after finally realizing how much his favorite haunt sucked...
Tim McGraw would go on to have bigger hits, but his breakthrough song remains my favorite of his. You know a song is a win when I end up getting a character for my wrestling figure leagues out of it...
Already crowned the winner and runner up for GOAT song title. Here is your bronze medalist...
A song about going to a diner owned by a marbles champion or a song about a bunch of guys going down to do Miss Walker? Both? You decide...

John Deere Greene is a classic not mentioned in this thread yet. Great tune. Think I quoted it in the main thread once. Jacobs Ladder is another one. Get on it Baker! Also What the Heart Wants is an overlooked Colin Raye.

Don't know Jacob's Ladder and don't know/remember that Collin Raye song you mentioned. Will listen after this post. But first at least 3 tunes I'm sure you all know. Theme this time is songs that escaped the country ghetto to cross over into the mainstream, songs even non-country fans tend to enjoy, or a combination of the two... {Spoiler}
*Walking In Memphis was the only song during the heyday of my country fandom that I'd hear on both my country stations and the pop stations my parents occasionally listened to.

Cuz Billy Bob loves Charlene! I like Devil Went Down to Georgia as a novelty song. Not one I have in consistent rotation but every once in awhile I get pumped to hear it. Similar with The Gambler but being in the industry that song could wear thin. Check out The Greatest by Kenny too when you get a chance. Such a great story and life lesson. Clever song with Kenny’s raspy voice being perfect.

Agreed. Aww yeah. The Greatest with those baseball references. This is already a win. Not sure how I missed this one. Finished. The kid putting a neat spin on his batting performance. EDIT: Your last two sentences also explain why I like Jerry Reed so much. The man can tell a story and he just has the best accent/way of speak-singing.

Have showed that one to my kids to teach them a bit about perspective when playing sports or really about anything. Such a good twist in those last few lines. I’m not super familiar with Reed outside of Eastbound and Down. I did like the songs you posted in here.

I’m not super familiar with Reed outside of Eastbound and Down. I did like the songs you posted in here. Jerry Reed primer. Less go. I discovered Jerry in the summer or fall of 2000 while watching a Scooby Doo episode, of all things, at my friend Bryan's house. It was that 70s version of Scooby with special guest stars playing themselves. We had almost certainly been drinking. And it's very likely the alcohol enhanced our amusement of this fast-talking Southerner neither one of us had ever heard of. Oh, Bryan was actually a country fan btw. Not hardcore, but about on par with early 2000s me. We discovered the Highwaymen around the same time. Anyway, I bought a lot of CD's in those days. On my next trip to the store I just happened to stumble upon a Jerry Reed album and bought it on a lark if only to amuse my friend Bryan. Track 1 was Amos Moses. I was sold. Jerry instantly became the newest Baker Guy. Before long I had my whole little gang on the Jerry Reed bandwagon. I'd blare Amos Moses and other Jerry goodies at maximum volume with my friend Slothman riding shotgun to and from work. Gotta say me getting a 70s country singer over in early 2000s suburban Baltimore is extremely on brand. Jerry had a unique style best described as country funk. Most of his songs tell a story. He does trend towards the silly side of things, but in a good way. He can be pretty repetitive, but his formula works more often than not. There are really only three types of Jerry Reed songs... 1. Songs about swamp dwelling badasses. 2. Songs about ne'er do well good ol' boys getting themselves into pickles. 3. Miscellaneous. Often covers of even older songs. Almost certainly the lowest percentage of the three types of Jerry Reed song. But the man just oozes charisma. He was pure fun. It often comes across like he's ad-libbing in songs. He'll throw in these well-timed laughs and "SON"s. It's great. He was also a prolific songwriter who came up with a ton of clever lines while specializing in story songs. Plus I just love his accent. He was my highest ranked country artist at #16 when we did PW's Favorite Music Act countdown a few years back. Though, to be fair, I may have underrated Garth by only having him at #21.

UT you should check out Harry Chapin. I think you'd like him. He's folk rather than country, but the man can spin a yarn with the best of 'em. ================= No video spam tonight. Going listmania instead... Late afternoon was more Highwaymen, Kenny, and Alabama, back to back Randy Travis, a little John Michael Montgomery, and a lot of Johnny Horton. Plus more miscellaneous country stuff I'm forgetting atm. History then repeated itself as I went off country for a little Retro Saturday Night action with back to back Spinners, Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive, Play That Funky Music, some Bee Gees, and the immortal Funkytown. #HistoryOfTheWorld Then I took a trip to the weird part of Germany with some Dshinghis Khan and Franzl Lang.

Looking at my Spotify profile, my top ten most-played songs for the month (so far) are...
10. Am I The Only One - Aaron Lewis 9. Madness - Maddie & Tae 8. Denim & Rhinestones - Carrie Underwood 7. Meanwhile Back At Mama's - Tim McGraw ft. Faith Hill 6. L.A. - Tim McGraw 5. My Boy - Elvie Shane 4. 7500 OBO - Tim McGraw 3. Doin' This - Luke Combs 2. Everybody Talks To God - Aaron Lewis 1. Crazy Angels - Carrie Underwood
I'm honestly not surprised to see it is all country, especially with the recent country-music draft, even if it's all modern-day country music. The first non-country song is #11 with I Just Can't Wait to Be King, I kinda listened to it a few times during the Disney Songs draft.

Found it! (Last 4 Weeks)
1. The Greatest Man I Never Knew (Reba) 2. [Redacted] - I don't want to tip my hand for the new country draft 3. No One Else on Earch (Wynonna) 4. Tell Me I Was Dreaming (Travis Tritt) 5. A Little Past Little Rock (Lee Ann Womack) 6. Grandpa (The Judds) 7. One Way Ticket (LeAnn Rimes) 8. Down at the Twist and Shout (Mary Chapin Carpenter) 9. Mississippi Girl (Faith Hill) 10.
