I’m not trying to be a Debbie downer or anything about this because I want to like it. But can anyone tell me why having CM Punk fight Mox last week and lose and then announce their PPV match less than a week before their biggest show of the year is better than doing none of that and having a storyline of Punk/Mox unifying the title at their biggest show? Everyone on Reddit is saying “to add layers to the story”. But I’m looking at these layers and thinking but how is that better? Punk going in with a quick-clean loss. The title is already unified. I just can’t see how telling the unifying story wouldn’t have been a much better story than this. To legitimize Moxley as the first ever 2-time champion and win in Ohio before dropping the belt to Punk in Chicago. It’s not great but it is what it is. I have a feeling they wanted to do the unification match sooner but Punk wasn’t cleared as quickly as they had hoped. I’m fine with it, honestly. Isn’t how I would have done things but it isn’t up to me. I think the match will be good and we might get a surprise or twist before it’s all said and done, but even if we don’t, Moxley and Punk should still deliver something fun. Would be even sweeter now if MJF is the Joker and after Punk wins with one leg he cashes in before the show ends and takes the title. I’m not betting on it but holy shit the heat would be nuclear and people would talk about that all week.

Was Punk getting booed in Chicago on the table… ever? He is going against AEW other most popular star. Why take any risks?

Your first two two-time AEW champions losing their second title reign within five days (or five minutes if you’re Punk) of winning the title is not an ideal way to legitimize them. Huh? He wasn’t a 2x champ until he beat Punk.

Not like booker of the year is a deep field...
Tony better polish that up real nice, as HHH is taking that title and not likely giving it up any time soon.

Huh? He wasn’t a 2x champ until he beat Punk. Yeah. Your dream booking here is: Mox loses to Punk five days after he wins the title. Punk loses it to MJF five minutes after he wins it from Mox. Your first two time champions hold their second title for less than a week. It’s 11 days actually! And I don’t care if it happens or not, I was just saying it would be a crazy twist. But sure, wrestling should always make sense and have no surprises. That’s why WWE has been so good for the past decade.

Really curious just how much cash HHH is willing to offer Ospreay to jump in 2024.

Also guess that solves that, Kenny is 100% and was just working people last week.

Boo, being an Ospreay fan is like being a Sasha fan complete with sit down pout after the loss. So Battlebots wants AEW's leftovers who want BBT's leftovers.

Ospreay will win the next match at Wrestle Kingdom.
Besides Ospreay legit is the best in the world right now, he can take the losses and bounce right back.

Give me a best of 7 series between Omega and Ospreay right frickin now.
Pretty good show. Not as eventful as I had hoped but was a good set up for Sunday.
-Elite vs Dark Order feels like it has to happen at this point, especially now that Hangman is involved.
-Not how I would have booked Punk vs Moxley but hey, sometimes life is messy and I think they'll have a good match. Not like the champ has never lost in their first defence before...and should we even be counting out Moxley? He legit squashed Punk just a week ago.
-I'm a bit annoyed FTR and Wardlow are crammed into a trios match but at least we're getting MCMG out of it. And pushing more ROH guys is always a good thing. Figure out a goddamn TV show for ROH already, please.
-W. Morrissey joining The Stoke Society was an interesting development. He's got one slot left and I have a feeling it gets filled on Sunday. Now the question: do they run rampant in AEW or is this building to an ROH faction since Tully's Big Bois fell apart?
-The women's tag match flew under the radar but was really good. The Fatal Fourway is one of the matches I'm most looking forward to.
-Speaking of the women, does anyone else feel like Athena isn't going to win? Because I do.
-Maybe I missed it but they didn't pump up the tag titles at all. Where was The Acclaimed? Are they on Rampage?
That's all I got for now.

I think Athena is torn between wrestling and doing gaming. That last year in WWE like broke her with the one / two of forcing her to stop her gaming stuff, then sending her to NXT and pulling her from TV entirely.
She 100% is putting over Cargill. And likely doing so happily, as it is clear Jade is something special.

Do you think she'd be allowed to do both in Hunter's WWE?

Yeah, think he would consider it a good thing as it would be a bridge to another fandom. I expect to see Shayna start to do more Warhammer stuff now too for another bridge. Why not let these people do outside things, while carrying the WWE banner with them?

I just can’t see how telling the unifying story wouldn’t have been a much better story than this. You know I try to keep an open mind with Pro Wrestling and accept it as simple entertainment not to be taken too seriously.
However, when it comes to Punk he usually has his finger on the pulse that I can't help but be invested in what he does.
This is the second time, he's given away the match before the PPV and turned me off from watching the rematch.
The first time he went 38 minutes with MJF, kicked MJF ass so bad that he injured himself and even then Wardlow became the focus of the match. The subsequent PPV match was fine, if not slightly better than the Dynamite match but after all that build-up I couldn't help but feel disappointed.
Fast forward to now, Punk comes back and cuts a scathing promo and puts everyone on notice after Dynamite had been pedestrian for months. They give the match away the next week and Punk injures himself again and takes a significant blow to his credibility. Now him and Ace Steele are doing some high school esque pep rally for the people of Chicago and I'm supposed to care about seeing Punk and Moxley again? Even though at this point, Punk's whole gimmick is Mr. Glass from Unbreakable?
It is what it is, TK seriously wanted a rating so he gave the match away. AEW still has enough good-will to get the same 100K supporters to buy the PPV so what does it matter?

I dunno why you wouldn’t want to see a rematch when we didn’t even get one in the first place. Punk started landing offence then immediately went down with his injury and the match was over.

Why would I want to watch a guy who can't land a kick without crumpling to the ground? If you held off for months, sure but I'm supposed to believe 11 days is going to make a difference? There was far more intrigue until they pulled that stunt.

Good show, I liked it. Main event was excellent, much better than last week's trios match. The interaction between Ospreay and Omega was fantastic and everyone else did a great job.
Hangman facing off against Kenny and the Bucks soon - very exciting!

Ospreay confirms he is done with AEW for the foreseeable future. Means next time him and Kenny meet it will be in Japan most likely.
