I was hoping for a Becky win but knew she probably wouldn't make it coming in at 2. Surprised Sasha came in at 1 and made it to the final four. I read a few posts around the net from people predicting those two to be one and two and I'm glad they went with that. They really held down the match as you'd expect.

The women's rumble was pretty good. Steph's commentary sucked though.
But anyway, yeah, pretty fun match, with some nice spots, and putting Sasha and Becky as 1 and 2 to hold things down was smat. A lot of nice moments. Trish still definitely has something, and I'm hoping Nikki is back for another run to at least Summerslam. Was hoping for an ICONIC appearance, but Kairi and Ember were great choices, but man, I was really hoping for Nikki Cross.
My only obvious gripe is Becky going out so early. I know she was in for a while, but I'd love if he at least made to the closing stretch (because obviously winning wasn't an option because WWE HATES ME!)
I have no problem with Ronda considering she has signed full time. That's great.

Yeah, the WWE gets a lot of shit (from myself included), sometimes rightfully so, but they more than delivered with the first ever women's Royal Rumble match. I thought it was a lot of fun, and hope it's something they do again next year, plus it was nice seeing Michelle McCool, Molly Holly, Brie Bella, and Trish Stratus (as well as the others) again.
When it was announced that Steph would be doing commentary, I was worried, but I'll admit, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Also hopefully this means we'll be seeing women's Royal Rumble matches in the games now, hate playing an all women's universe mode, and not being able to do the match.

I think they did a really good job with the returns. They had just the right amount, everyone got a pretty awesome moment or two (Lita being first and really picking up the momentum after the early lull of Sarah and Mandy, Michelle getting a number of eliminations, Beth picking up Nia and getting tricked by Nattie, Trish's faceoff with Mickie and mocking Sasha) but none over stayed their welcome. The pacing was done really well, and it's probably important that it was considering how dead the crowd was for the two matches in between the Rumbles.

Yeah, the returning ladies did really well. I was so happy that Michelle McCool had a really nice showing and the crowd appreciated her work for it. If anything, I wish that Kelly and Vickie were replaced by the Iconic Duo or one or two more NXT ladies, but those two didn't really hurt the match with their presence much. I also wish Sasha eliminating Bayley had a bit more drama to it.
Overall though, really good women's match. Stephanie was just the right voice on commentary. She wasn't too overbearing with self-congratulations and her personal history with some of the ladies helped put the match over.

Was pleasantly surprised by Stephanie’s commentary I have to say. And I thought the match was very well laid out, of course I was in pure mark out mode when Lita came out and got her moment! Not one of the returning girls looked out of place (except Kelly Kelly) but I suppose that’s going to happen when most of them retire when they’re younger. Just wondering if they’ll do this next year as they’ve used up a lot of big appearances/surprises for this match, although hopefully they have a wider roster by next year and will only need 1 or 2 legend spots plus NXT.

Wish Lita and Trish could have been in the ring at the same time. And AJ appeared. But that was easily the best Rumble I seen. So many good moments and a good flow.
The Ronda hate is interesting. If she has been training at NXT, and will be coming in full time on a multiyear deal, what is the problem? She will be a wrestler now and is super over. If she was doing WM unsigned I could understand, but not if she is planning to stay around for a while. It is obvious she is a huge wrestling fan, so this is not a quick cash grab either.

I think the issue is she is gonna be front and center of the division for the next few years (however long the deal is) so depending on what "full time" means other girls are being shoved aside. It's different from normal WM season and Brock because I assume she's gonna be doing more than a few matches... is house show loop even possible?

Wish Lita and Trish could have been in the ring at the same time. I actually preferred that they didn't go with the blatantly obvious there. Lita being eliminated actually had me thinking that #30 was going to be Ronda because I was surprised they'd pass up the opportunity to have them interact again.

I enjoyed the match, but there some things I could have done without.
Steph on commentary makes me think less of the women. When she talks she comes across as trite and demeaning, there were many times when a wrestler did something and Steph's response made it seem as though she was saying 'aww how cute' in a very condescending way. Or when she would sort of chuckle or giggle at a major move, her reactions were an obvious contrast to the other commentators who were trying to sell the performers.
I would have preferred less returning old school wrestlers, perhaps replacing them with NXT women. The men's rumble uses them sparingly, not a third of the match. One of Torrie or Kelly, one of Molly or Jacqueline.
The whole thing at the end with Rhonda. If someone gets to come in at the end and basically say, hey I'm gonna fight one of the champ at mania, but I don't need to go through the process the rest of you did, it kinda demeans the whole purpose of the match. Why bother with the last 60 minutes if some random just gets to decided what she wants herself. Also, not pumped for Rhonda or Shayna or anything four horse women, if I wanted to watch mma I'd watch mma.

One of Torrie or Kelly, one of Molly or Jacqueline. I agree in sentiment but not in this case. As useless from an in-ring perspective as Torrie and Kelly are, they do get nostalgia pops. If they'd loaded another 3 or 4 girls in from NXT to no reaction it would have just given the anti-women crowd another reason to complain about why they were given the main event - just look at how quiet the crowd was at the start of the match with Mandy and Sarah Logan as an example of how things could have gone. And as I said in the party thread, ladies like Jacqueline and Molly absolutely deserved to be in this as recognition for their contribution to breaking barriers. There's always next year for Billie and Peyton.

Enjoyable match with a nice pace, and I loved seeing the Bellas - Brie's pop was awesome. I just wish the surprise entrants hadn't appeared on Raw 25!

There's always next year for Billie and Peyton. Not only that, of course a third of the entrants were vets because the other two thirds was the entire available roster! The actual Rumble was booked perfectly imo and I loved that it was mostly a celebration of the different eras in WWE women’s wrestling. Almost all of the most important figures were included except AJ Lee and maybe Eve Torres. Even Kelly Kelly and Torrie Wilson were nice throwbacks to the “divas” niche. Of all the returns though, I personally think Michelle McCool should be a candidate for a comeback. There’s a certain merit to her name now and her presence in the modern era could be beneficial to her legacy and the division. Asuka was really the only correct choice for winner. Sure they coulda copped out and used it as an excuse for an unofficial loss but this win is another appropriate accolade.

I think that would be great. Michelle looked really good last night just tossing chicks over the top with ease. McCool/Charlotte is an obvious dream match.

^ McCool/Charlotte is definitely MY dream match. HUHUHU.
For a first rumble, I thought it was okay that they relied heavily on nostalgia and allowed a lot of the trailblazers like Trish, Lita, Beth, Michelle, Molly, and Jacqueline to take part in this history-making moment. But I do worry how they're gonna do the following years due to the size of the roster. They can either make it every other year or they can just reduce it to 20 women to make it a bit more possible to leave some women off (and have singles matches with the champs) while still having 3 or 4 NXT ladies and surprises each year, like Eve, Melina, or someone as random as Aksana or a singing Jillian.

There's always NXT ladies....Shayna The iconic duo, Nikki cross, candice...there 5 names right there to replace the vets and include the entire main roster. Then there's Zelina Vega and the rumors of Serena Deeb Returning to wwe Not to mention any other women they bring up or sign between now and next January. I don't see why people think coming up with 30 women is really that difficult.

Given the success of the match and the signing of Rousey, the WWE has every reason in the world to invest more into the women's division. Maybe we'll see more signings? Maybe we'll see more call-ups and more importantly hopefully we'll see these women in proper angles.
The match certainly wasn't a fluke and if anything there's still room for improvement. Still for all the corporate back-patting, they held up their end of the bargain and gave us a great spectacle. One of the few times where the WWE genuinely delivered.
