Yes it's permanent. 1 & 2 seeds get a bye to the divisional round, while 3 (division winner with the lowest wins) plays 6 and 4 plays 5 in three-game series. 

The fans in Seattle are getting two games for the price of one today. Game 3 is currently in the 18th inning, and there is STILL NO SCORE!!

Boone keeping Peralta in for two batters before giving Schmidt inherited runners OR refusing to use either Aaron Hicks or Tim Locastro, two more experienced outfielders as defensive replacement for Oswaldo Cabrera who lacks experience defensively? Just amateur night by Aaron Boone, this is mistakes made by a year 1 manager, not by someone who has been the skipper for 4 fucking seasons.

Game 2 Carpenter pinch hits for Trevino, which was not necessary, and Locastro pinch runs for Stanton. 9th inning Locastro leads off. Perfect opportunity for Carpenter to pinch hit instead.

Game 3 Holmes only available in an "emergency" situation. Last night was an emergency. Why is Clarke Schmidt out there in the 9th... Trivino and Loaisiga needed to be stretched out more if Boone was going to be so frugal with the bullpen.

Hicks not coming in as a defensive replacement well he has had defensive problems, which has led to benching during a game. The real question is why is he on the postseason roster then?

Exactly, why is Hicks on the postseason roster? In case Bader gets hurt. I would trust Hicks over Cabrera defensively just for sheer experience. He has had a down year for sure, especially offense but Yanks have bench guys for a reason, you need to have basestealers(Locastro) and defensive upgrades late game.

Forget about experience. Hicks has been awful offensively and defensively to the point that a rookie has taken his every day job. For someone who is just about gone for next year there is no point to have him on the postseason roster. Can't hit so he does not start and will not pinch hit. Can't field so he will not be a defensive replacement. Get off the team.

As far as a Bader backup. I would shift Judge to center, and Gonzalez/Locastro/Carpenter (if healthy) in RF. Or, if Stanton is able to play the field start the game: Bader LF/Judge CF (or vice versa) / Stanton RF. Defensive replacements can be done later especially if Stanton is pinch run.

Cabrera may have misjudged a ball, but he has made about a half dozen A+ fielding plays at multiple positions. He is just weeks into his major league career. He was playing too deep for a weak hitter. Boone should have realized that.

Yankees have just completely collapsed. These games are just not competitive.

Cole was ok until he loaded the bases with no outs. That is a tough and impossible spot to put Trivino or any other reliever in there. Added pressure with the silent Yankees bats they can't afford to even give up one run. I would have kept Cole in. He is supposedly the ace. Need a strikeout there. I would have kept him in instead of bringing in a reliever. That is is a tough spot to put your relief pitcher in. Trivino allows all three runs to score.

A semi standing ovation for Cole after walking the bases loaded with no outs in the 6th inning is the definition of modern day baseball.

I hear for months that Bader is a GG centerfielder, but his drop ball was costly. Cole was on his way to ending the easiest inning. Judge definitely got in Baders way. Can't be giving the Astros extra outs.

Regardless of the pitching it really didn't matter because the Yankees were essentially one hit and have not scored a legitimate run since game one.

I don't think Bader is fully healthy, crazy he has been one of the best bats on the team. Think that says it all. Yanks need Anthony Volpe to be good by next year and if Jasson Dominguez can at all debut next year, that might be it. Otherwise, this idea of trying to obtain older guys ala Josh Donaldson are just swings and misses. Dude has nothing left, he looks gassed.

Yanks are just lifeless right now, have some damn dignity and at least don't get swept.

The fact that a THIRD place team in a division is able to go to the world series sorta means that the regular season means little. Credit to the Phils for fighting with their backs against the wall but still...go back to the 4 team per league format. What wasn't broken didn't need to be fixed. 

Aaron Judge is hitting .077 with a .133 on base percentage in the postseason. Again another dud October performance. Would I be booing him? Nah. Yanks don't get this far without his contributions and he deserves a life changing payday but do I blame the Yanks if they don't give him 300+ million dollars? Not at all. Mookie Betts, Bryce Harper have or had brought it in the playoffs to warrant those mega deals, Judge has had multiple times and has failed each time.

Someone who has won something this time of the year Rizzo ties the game up though.
