I'm so over ROH people popping up. Fucking stop already.
You pull in approx ~250k views on Dark: Elevation. Have all these ROH guys you love so much invade that show and take it over and rebrand it ROH: Reborn or something. Boom.

The Ring of Honor thing is completely ridiculous. Why are they creating another brand trying to target the same audience? What differentiation is there between the AEW product and RoH product? Why not just create more AEW content? If I’m Discovery, and I’ve got Tony Khan in my ear all day about this Ring of Honor TV show, I’m asking him, why not another AEW show? Why are we using this less valuable IP (sunken cost fallacy is the answer) when we could just use your own much more valuable IP?
I try to see the good in Tony, but sometimes I wonder if in ten years time we’ll look back on this period as one of the most mental times in wrestling history and rue what a missed opportunity it was.

I try to see the good in Tony, but sometimes I wonder if in ten years time we’ll look back on this period as one of the most mental times in wrestling history and rue what a missed opportunity it was. From what I’ve read, Tony has pitched an ROH show but Discovery/Warner won’t go for it because they feel it would over saturate the market. Rampage can’t hold an audience and is sliding in the ratings and Dynamite isn’t showing any growth. Adding another hour or two of TV on top of that for the same demo based on a company that went bankrupt doesn’t make sense. So basically we’re stuck with this until Tony wakes the fuck up and sticks ROH on youtube or something. I dunno.

WBD is the one who wants more content from Tony, which is why he is pitching RoH and building support for it. It is the dirt sheets who say the market cannot support RoH. Which makes me think that the dirt sheets just do not want to have to watch another show. But AEW is some of the top ratings for the network, so they do want more content.

I thought we could make this into it's own discussion.
So my theory is that TK swooped in because he could. It'd be one more asset he could own, he could use the tape library to promote guys like Danielson, Punk & Joe and even use it to help secure a streaming deal. Then he ran Supercard of Honor XV, it set all kinds of records and he got it in his mind that he needed to continue running shows.
On top of that, he could use ROH to help placate some egos. Tony is very protective of his talent and wants to build up as many 'stars' as possible, so the addition of more titles and a different company solves that. Guys like FTR, Joe, Lethal etc. get to have a spotlight without it affecting guys like Moxley, Punk, The Bucks etc. FTR in particular appeared to be in a much better place after they got to star in two PPVs, so you can see the results.
Things came to ahead following the fall-out of the Punk presser. TK needed some talent to turn to and Jericho took it upon himself to accept more responsibility. Jericho-MJF had been done to death, so Jericho doing the honours for MJF made no sense. Jericho is all about doing something new, so one thing that he'd never done before is won the ROH Title. So they run with it and make it one of the major focal points of the show to give Jericho more momentum and play into the whole Lionheart gimmick he's got going. Jericho in particular seems to like this Three Faces of Jericho gimmick he's got going so he's going to push this. This also ties in with the ROH Pure Champion Daniel Garcia, so it's just more exposure.
The other thing that's going on is they're having problems booking Wardlow. They've booked themselves into a corner with him and since for whatever reason they have no plans to do Miro-Wardlow in the near future they've gone down this WarJoe route where they can look strong and beat up ROH guys like Lethal and the Embassy. I think this really came to ahead in reaction to an r/SC post that gained major traction where fans were whinging about the lack of Wardlow. Only a couple of days later they threw together a Brian Cage/Wardlow match and have been playing off that ever since.
Personally I'm not a fan of it either. In fact even before Jericho used it to revitilise his character, I really didn't enjoy the direction of the Blackpool Combat Club and I don't think it's really benefited anyone. Yuta seemed like the guy who'd stand the most to gain out of it, but after the MJF & Garcia programs he just seems like another underneath guy. All the other ROH guys/girls - Lethal, The Embassy, Dalton, Willow etc. are just glorified enhancement talent. The only one who I think adds anything to the show is Willow and they could easily make that happen without the ROH baggage.
What I find funny is that all the talent that were actual stars in ROH aren't being branded as such. RUSH, Brody King, Danhausen etc. Those were the guys that could actually draw, the rest were largely good hands.
However it's clearly here to stay and I think your solution is the best RT. I'd go a step further and have somebody else book it with their own ideas and booking philosophy just so it stands out more. I think it'd be a better way to audition talent as well.

Tony absolutely grabbed RoH to leverage into a streaming deal.
Given people still consider themselves ECW guys, it is weird to see people complain about RoH still being around.

I think RT’s solution is best, even though it clearly isn’t cost effective to run a brand like that on YouTube. At least it gives Tony something concrete to sell Discovery on to try to get it on TV. He really gambled on this RoH purchase with lofty ambitions regarding using the tape library and going OTT. I just don’t see it. I also suspect a lot of that RoH library would be borderline unwatchable between the dated resolution and garbage production quality.

Get Rampage off Friday nights and on to Saturday morning or put it on Thursday. Put the people who fit more tradition wrestling on ROH. And no not just the second string. People like Punk, FTR, and MJF.
AEW will be for matches that have more relaxed rules. So Young Bucks can do double teams and spots for days, Lucha Bros don't have to tag. And Mox can make all his matches into hard-core matches.
Don't let anyone switch brands weekly. Battle of the Belts will be a quarterly face off between the shows.

Reminds me of WWE ECW. Plus TK already has Nitro and Thunder. Do they really need Saturday Night? Its WCW all over again with the network over exposing a good thing. Nitro was doing so good the network wanted more and we got Thunder and Thunder sucked.

I mean I assumed he only bought for bottom of the barrel mark reasons. Like he literally announced "I just bought ROH!" as if anyone on the planet would care.

WWE wouldn't budge past 5 meatball subs it seems. Tony is such a mark paying 6 for ROH.

Tony Khan to Sports Illustrated this morning: “We’ll have great news soon about Ring of Honor weekly shows” “We’ll have great news soon about Ring of Honor weekly shows,” Khan says. “The success of Death Before Dishonor on pay-per-view has ensured there will be more Ring of Honor pay-per-views. “Our goal is to have one more great pay-per-view for Ring of Honor in 2022 and then follow that up with a weekly show in 2023.” Source: www.si.com/wrestling/2022/10/18/aew-chris-jericho-new-contract-expiration-date

It sounded like before the Punk drama Tony was locking down a show for RoH from Warner. Likely they will get it next year. Warner really does seem to want that wrestling.

My favourite ROH moment in 2022 is the ROH Champion appearing on The Masked Singer. #sportsentertainer
