And just in case there wasn’t enough Silent Hill for you, there’s a movie too.

I love the takeaway seems to be that since Bloober is doing the remake everything will totally suck. Fanboys be fucking toxic as shit.

Looks promising not sure I like the voice of James though. The voice sounds too gruff in my opinion. I always preferred Guy Cihi myself, so we'll see where that goes. One thing I hope they touch up upon is that fucking boat section. All cautiously optimistic but then again the SH HD Collections were pure dog pile imo.

As someone who enjoyed Silent Hill 2, I feel like while the intent is good, I think off initial trailer alone, that there's a bit too much attention to detail in this version vs the simplicity that the original had. James face in the mirror for example is a bit too much anguish and expression vs the dark, monotone picture that the original Silent Hill 2 game had.
Still will play it though but I don't know if they will capture what made SH2 good but I am not ready to outright shitpan this either.

Any word on whether any of the original Team Silent is on this? Or if is Akira back on music?

Any word on whether any of the original Team Silent is on this? Or if is Akira back on music? Masahito Ito is apart of this, same with Akira Yamaoka(Who also helped with Bloober Team's The Medium OST). I think that's about it with involvement of the old Silent Hill 2 stuff though.

I seen nothing but people shitting all over this, but I absolutely loved it. Shows the direction the series will go in for the future with the Silent Hill effect now applying to many locations. Story is very dark. Some uneven stuff in it as one chase goes on way too long, but rest was pretty cool. Female focused story though so many gamers are just shitting all over it. Also many arguing that it is not REAL Silent Hill, but they also said that really for every single game after 2.

The main issue is this seems like a remake rather than a remaster which can work, as shown with FF7. The issue is it takes away from this being a psychological horror and instead makes it a Resident Evil clone which sort of downplays the "Less is more" story from SH2. SH2 half the battle was psychological and thinking there's enemies around when there are none. This version throws that entirely out the window and almost encourages you to kill enemies and go gun ho on whoever is surrounding you. I actually didn't mind The Medium's gameplay and that was the lone Bloober game I played from start to finish and even then I can see how the writing sort of lets that game down, especially towards the end.
There's also little enemy variation with the original SH2 so not sure how many nurses and deformed enemies you can get away with. Will they add new enemies for the sake of? Curious how they even do the Eddie boss fight which exposes the original's gunplay in being really poor.
FF7 Remake took a similar risk and for some, it bastardized too much of the original for this to be heralded as something faithful to the original. For some though, it was a nice spin and either way, it has or will(in the sequel's case) sell like hot cakes.

Only played the PS3 version of Silent Hill 2 and I don’t really remember much and that’s probably for the better.
I’ve only just made it into Silent Hill and the sound design is next level, made sure to put headphones in for this and play with no lights on and it has not disappointed. For one there is an abundance of fog which sounds like it should be a given but see PS3 version.
Plenty of options as far as audio/visual stuff so even this early onto the game can see they have taken great care with this remake.
The “press o to skip” that’s flashed a few times in cutscenes is only downside so far. Trying not to as a notorious cut scene skipper.

SH2 Remake got really good reviews, might be something I jump on down the road when it goes on sale. Don't want to commit to anything major with Metaphor: Refantazio looming.

Read a glowing review of this on Eurogamer. It was written by a diehard fan of the original, so I take it that the 5/5 was difficult to earn. Since I'm not a horror aficionado, I can wait like Blindy for a price drop lol ... but it seems like Bloober more or less nailed it.

Pretty sure System is regretting us playing this together. I love the puzzle aspects/working out where to go, but oh boy I’m not loving some of the jump scares… basically yeet the controller at System and then want it back as soon as the scary monsters/sound has gone away 😅 I’m usually not this bad, but damn Silent Hill keeps getting me 😂
I love horror, and I’m much better with movies/shows than I am with video games but damnnnn

Oddly enough, even though survival horror was my jam in my younger years, I never actually played SH2. I played the first and got stuck on a late game puzzle, never finished it because it was a rental, and so I just kinda missed the rest of the SH train.
So, without any nostalgia or frame of reference, something that really killed the RE2 remake for me, I really loved the remake. Great atmosphere, solid RE4esque gameplay, great characters, fantastic puzzles, just a joy start to finish. Only real complaint is that the dodge could be inconsistent and sometimes enemies could just tank a barrage of bullets; usually 3 to the knee should drop them to a knee, but sometimes they'd just keep charging you.
So, just a couple small irks, great stuff though.
Next up, Metaphor.
