Anyone seen this shit?  Dana White just got the Nevada Athletic Commission to approve slap fighting as a sport, which he will brand into Power Slapping and blow up like he did MMA previously.

If only Antonio Inoki was alive to see this.

I saw a video of this maybe six months ago and quickly forgot about it.

What I didn't forget is that one of the combatants had some sick nickname like "death slap" but she was completely outclassed by the other lady. Death slap was blinking back tears and her own slap generated no reaction. Unearned nickname based on that slap battle.

I wish I hadn't wasted 5 minutes watching it.

I am just baffled that an Athletic Commission is willing to classify this as a sport and oversea rules for it. It is people slapping each other, there is not really a sport here.

How do you define sport?

Competitive engagements. I do not really see a true level of competition in power slapping. Modern rules are three slaps, and if neither person hits someone so hard that they are knocked out or in physical harm to the point where a judge stops it, you are judged on technique of the slaps. This eventually solves to people with perfect technique who can take slaps drawing consistently.

In the case of a draw the judges pick who has the better slap, which if both people have perfect technique becomes an utterly subjective decision about who they simply like better.

It's stuff like this that kills any faith I have in humanity.

Inspired by Dana White getting into a physical altercation with his wife on New Year's, Dana White has brought forth a slapping competition known as "TBS' Power Slap" which is a contest of each person slapping each other as hard as humanly possible until someone is either KO'd or quits.

I don't get the appeal and the ratings seem to show that I am not alone(They had a lead in with AEW Dynamite) and I have no idea why Dana White is putting money into this over say bettering the pay of the fighters of the UFC(Considering Ngannou just walked out over this) but hey I am not the multi billionaire here.

I don't know why you'd watch this for longer than a few minutes but Diggs commentary definitely added to the entertainment. "Hol up he got the big forearm!"

Yeah I would be stunned if this gets to last even longer than like 2-3 episodes. Just the novelty alone wears off after 1-2 times and some of the ones like the guy who got dropped in a fencing position are rough to watch.

This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t even fathom ever being invested in it or watching an actual “match” or whatever they’re called.

I watched about 10 minutes of it after Dynamite before I shut it off. It’s fucking unbelievable that they’re airing this nonsense. It felt like watching a show from Idiocracy. We’re like 2 years away from “Ow! My Balls!” being a real show.

The very first slap is the video Chris Nowinski posted. Then they show two guys that can barely talk go three rounds while people cheer them on. Meanwhile Dana and two cavemen are “recruiting” slappers for their houses like Ultimate Fighter. They’re talking about technique and charisma like it matters.

One of the guys that went 3 rounds was playing to the crowd and they wanted to pick him but then they reveal HE IS BLIND IN ONE EYE AND WOULD NEVER PASS A MEDICAL. BUT THEY LET HIM GET SLAPPED ANYWAY.

I FUCKING HATE IT HERE.

We are de-evolving as a species. Shit like this just speeds up the process. 

Combatants talking strategy and what to do as far as picking 1st or 2nd goes. Some like getting slapped and feeling the adrenaline rush. Kids at home, time to do some homework on what it takes to be a face slap champion.

Dana White is treating this like it's the UFC. LOL at the weight classes.
