Tony said this today in regards to CM Punk If not for the lawyers telling him to "clamp down or else you are losing a lot of money", we would have seen looney TK here. He is taking the smart route here, sucks for us but smart for him. That's his go to answer for everything, to the point where it's hurt his relationship with the media. You're right it's better than unhinged Tony, but it's not necessarily smart. He's probably taking the feedback from his lawyers or maybe even his father at this point. When things are rosy and stuff, we will get funny TK again but this is a moment he has to chill out. If he lands Mercedes Mone, then we are getting our cocky owner of AEW again. He's about ready to put the chips into that move, and regardless of how much trouble she provides, will sign her half out of needing her in the women's division but half out of spite on WWE.

Everything involving Punk in AEW is under a two way NDA, with a forward non-disparagement agreement, put in place after Brawl Out. No one is allowed to talk about what happened in the room, and they cannot trash AEW, and Tony cannot trash them, moving forward. Standard cover it all up contract in the business world.

No, we get rosy Tony Khan everytime he wants to discuss old school wrestling or plug his show. When he gets asked a tough question, he'll immediately go into his shell when he could just easily address it. Take Cody, TK wouldn't answer the question whereas Cody has been more than happy to address it. Tony needs to learn how to cut a little swathe and lead the people on.

The fact that Tony hasn't already had several meltdowns on twitter tells me he is telling the truth. This was the worst weekend in AEW's short history by a country mile. They tried to go toe-to-toe with Survivor Series for some stupid reason, got slaughtered, then CM Punk showed up. Absolute demolishing.
His lawyers probably told him to shut the fuck up and if CM Punk took any money on his way out the door from AEW, then he signed an NDA and can't talk either.
However, if he didn't see a dime, tonight's promo is gonna be can't miss TV. Guess we find out one way or another in about an hour.
EDIT: Well there's our answer. Basically gave the same promo he did his first night in AEW. Someone signed an NDA and got a severance.

For those wondering, and despite ratings not mattering apparently, both Collision and Rampage did less than 300,000 each.
Rampage did 233,000. Yikes...
But ratings don't matter...
(NXT did more than both shows combined by a further 95,000... yikes.)

If he's not legally allowed to talk about it, what more can he do? 'I didn't see it.'
'Between juggling AEW, Fulham and Jacksonville I've been flat out. I can't get too caught up in what the competition is doing'
It's like his surprise announcements. He's the boy who cried wolf where even if he legally couldn't say anything whatsoever, he's used that excuse before when he clearly could have said something.
Would have also popped if he randomly brought up...
#1 doesn't talk about #2.
Wait until the Austin podcast.

What was the cable originals rank? And what was the top competition routine events or special events? The details that matter that seem to always be left out of these who think these numbers have magical meaning on their own and are best measured on a scalar level.

Likely still does not get mentioned. You do not fuck with NDAs. There are almost no defenses in court for breaking one legally and the fines are in the millions by default. If there is an NDA, Punk would have to be a special kind of stupid to break it for a podcast, when he was sued prior for talking shit in a podcast. But he wants to work WWE for free while paying Tony to do so, he is free to go for it and talk all he wants about Brawling Out and In.

Sure, but it seems like a more likely environment than a return promo that was hastily cobbled together. Even if he can't go over the whole situation with a fine tooth comb, I'm sure there are aspects he could cover.
Besides, there isn't a wrestling fan alive who wouldn't want to hear more 'Rocky 3' type stories.

That was how they brought him back he just walked out at the end of the show and looked around? 😂 Which was perfectly fine. It was a take on the old surprise ECW debut, where they waited until the last possible second and right as the credits were about to roll, here's one last surprise.
Whether Hunter was genuine or not, the WWE are portraying this like it was a last minute decision and in the end they relented and offered him a deal. So they're taking things slowly while teasing a program with the RAW Champion, Seth Rollins, who was visibly upset after the show and Punk made allusions to it on the show.

I do wonder, why are so many AEW diehards upset Punk is back in WWE. I mean, wasn't Punk this "massive cancer", so don't they want him to go back to WWE and cause problems backstage?
Or is it the reality setting in that Omega, the Young Bucks, and all of their friends aren't as innocent as that they want to portray them as, and that AEW has hurt themselves more in this situation.
I guess the "greener grass" of AEW is just AstroTurf.

Most AEW fans watch WWE as well, and do not want Punk on wrestling they consume. Not sure why people are acting like AEW fans are butthurt he is in WWE instead of AEW, when we wanted him out of AEW long before he was fired. And Punk is not in AEW because he was fired. He did not quit, or walk away. He literally was barred from working for them. Not sure people think Tony is upset a guy he fired is working somewhere else. Only reason Punk got out of his non-compete was he was fired. Tony could have benched him for five more years, but instead wanted so little to do with him, he freed him up to return to WWE.
I do find it so hilarious too that people who hate on ALL ELITE wrestling focus on the Elite being the problem. Like if you hate Elite, maybe the fed they founded is just not for you.

Lol. 233,000 representing a drop of 43% from the prior year for Rampage, and Collision saw an even bigger reduction in eyes on the product having lost 50% of it’s 2022 audience, drawing 294,000 viewers. Yikes. I mean, what a dedicated audience. All eyes must have been on Chicago. Spin whatever narrative you want. It was a ratings blood bath. It's like owning a rocket and it failing to launch. Another of many, many failures.

This may be crazy talk, but some believe a world exists outside of the United States, that also has television technology. And even more insane, is there are devices that allow you to watch television shows on them, some of which can fit into your pocket. Maybe using solely 1950's methods to chart television usage is not the best measure of success.
But hey, you want to delude yourself into believing these numbers have meaning as they are, go ahead. But no one takes them seriously anymore after they lost accreditation for admitting they were not accurately reporting them.

Next time AEW sees a million viewers and you've wet yourself with excitement, I'll remind you of that.
But, to do a million viewers.. they'd need CM Punk back.
What upsets so many is, Punk has gone onto bigger and better things already. It's like the crime doesn't fit the punishment, does it? Beat up a few midgets and strangle the boss and the universe rewards him with a bigger platform.

If you forget, I have not cared for their ratings at all.
Most AEW fans I seen only dislike Punk in WWE because it means they still have to see him on TV. No one gives a shit he went to work for different fed, since they just wanted him out of AEW, and this is what happens when wrestlers leave, they work somewhere else.
What I see is people who hate AEW trying to make this some kind of win it is not. Punk is not in AEW right now solely because he was fired.

News leaking today American Dragon was one of the people involved in decided whether or not fire Punk in AEW. Fucking child!!!
Also reported Tony did not seem to care that Punk was in WWE and his main concern was possibly losing Shibata for a while.
Hanger posted an NDA meme on his instagram. Surely this means nothing.
And related to other news, QT was one of the people banned from Collision.

I cared about it then as it meant both feds would try to put their best forward. And it worked. WWE got their shit together and started the Bloodline program with Sami shortly after. That is what I wanted. I really do not care who is on top. I do wanted competition though, as without competition WWE at least creatively flounders fast.

It’s less about AEW vs WWE and more about the fact a lot of people who grew up watching CM Punk and idolizing him learned a lot more about the type of person he is over his AEW run. He’s an egotistical primadonna and a massive hypocrite. It’s like finding out a band you really enjoy are total assholes. It sours the fun. I don’t care that he went to WWE. I care that for the first time in my life I don’t want to see CM Punk on my TV no matter where he is because he’s an asshole. It sucks. I’m sure I will get over it though. Went through the same thing with Austin. Eventually I will be able to separate the art from the artist again and I’ll be fine. But I’m gonna be grumpy for a little bit.

Ratings only matter when they're on the up, didn't you get the message? When they're down, ratings don't matter, they never did. But it matters. It's eyes on the product and whether it accurate to the 0.1% or not, it's an indication of how the show is performing. It was a tough night, we should give them that.
