Week 8 kicks off with Lamar and the Ravens rolling down to Tampa to take on the struggling Bucs. Jackson is on course to break his own all time rushing record for a quarterback, and that's really been a key for Baltimore while their passing offence has hit a speed bump due to injuries to Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman. Tampa Bay are coming off two consecutive losses, including last week's bury the ball effort against Carolina. The Bucs offence is completely on the skids, Brady has lost connection with his receivers, they have no creativity coming from Byron Leftwich, and the run game is non-existent.
After a week's respite, we get another standalone Broncos game as the Russell Wilson saga rolls on. Rumours abound that a Denver loss might be the final nail in the coffin for Nathaniel Hackett, which if true, would make him the third shortest tenured HC in NFL history. Jacksonville have handed the keys to their backfield to Travis Etienne after trading James Robinson to the Jets, and considering his recent performances that's an enticing prospect. They might have all been in losses, but in the last three games he has 34 carries for 271 yards - that's 8 yards per rush.
Robinson now teams up with Michael Carter in the Jets backfield as they attempt to deputise for the sadly lost OROY candidate Breece Hall. Jets vs Patriots has been one of the most one-sided "rivalries" in the league with New England winning 12 straight matchups, but with their QB clusterfuck and Gang Green coming off four straight wins, this is surely time to banish their Belichick demons. Elsewhere in the early window we'll see if Justin Fields can keep his momentum rolling against the Cowboys, whose defence will provide a much tougher test than he faced from the Patriots on Monday night.
In the late group of games, the only matchup between two teams over .500 this week is the Giants and Seahawks. Brian Daboll and Pete Carroll are the two clear frontrunners for coach of the year. Both teams are succeeding with a strong focus on their rushing attack, Seattle leads the lead with the highest YPC at 5.5, while Big Blue have picked up the most first downs by rushing. We also get the latest instalment in the 49ers/Rams rivalry, San Francisco looking to bounce back after getting their doors blown off by Mahomes and the Chiefs, by continuing their typical dominance over the defending Super Bowl champions.
SNF would have looked like a slam dunk for NBC in the preseason, but considering the Packers struggle, now appears like a potential blowout. Aaron Rodgers enters this game as a double digit underdog for the first time in his career, and coming off losses to the Giants, Jets and Commanders, Green Bay look primed for the taking by the juggernaut Bills. For as out of sync as the Packers offence has been, it's their defence which has been the biggest disappointment, and on their current form it's hard to see anything but another Buffalo beatdown.
Monday night rounds out the week with an intriguing AFC North matchup between two teams heading in different directions. After a decent start, Cleveland have slumped to four straight losses marked by some questionable game management from Kevin Stefanski. He's under the pump now to keep their season alive prior to the return of Deshaun Watson. On the other side, the Bengals have been going from strength to strength after a sleepy start. They dropped the hammer on the Falcons right from the jump, Joe Burrow throwing for 481 and three touchdowns in a performance that lived up to the preseason expectations of this offence. Chase, Higgins & Boyd all averaged over 16 yards per reception in an explosive showing. The Browns defence is allowing the fourth most points per game so this might be another big day for the Cincinnati offence.
