Rangers sign ex Met ace Jacob DeGrom to a massive deal, shocked he got this deal given how many injuries he sustained. @admin wonder how you feel about this? Kamar Rocker the near Met, ex Met Al Leiter's son Jack and DeGrom along with if Jon Gray can at all find his way make for a real promising rotation in Arlington. Shocked Steve Cohen got beat, but I am guessing between the no state taxes and NY media factor that DeGrom wanted a new spot to call home. That being said, after the terrible contract he signed and the way he overperformed that deal with some magical years(His W-L record should have been so much better if the Mets could muster any offense for him), I am happy DeGrom got to cash in on what may be his final mega payday.

Mets counter this by signing Justin Verlander to a 2 year deal. Verlander and Scherzer teammates again after being Tigers together like a decade ago. Mets playing with fire with an aging rotation. Thoughts @admin?

I am sad to see Jacob go, he was a major reason I got more invested in the Mets the past couple of years. Baseball by its nature is pedestrian, but a deGrom start always felt like you were watching something special. With that said, I don't think this is anything close to a disaster for NYM - a five year contract for someone who has struggled with injuries the past two seasons just wouldn't have made sense. Verlander is a good replacement, on a shorter contract, and also adds Kate Upton to Katia Lindor for a WAG pairing I'd be surprised any sports team in the world could match.

I lost respect for Verlander when he refused to call out the Astros cheating scandal despite having the seniority to do so. Of course that doesn't mean he benefitted off of it but it was mike fiers who called this out while Verlander, Gerit Cole, McCullers etc. just stood by and watched. He also has had his health injuries but your right it's a lesser contract, just not sure how much is left in this tank and I think a Verlander/Scherzer 1-2 punch was fire 10-12 years ago in Detroit, now it's full of , especially the back end with no more Walker or Bassitt.

Too much money, Aaron Judge signs 9 years 360 mill with the yanks. I am happy for him as a player but between this, the Giancarlo Stanton deal and the Gerrit Cole deal, they have like 700 million attached to 3 guys. This is a team game, this is a 26 man roster. You can't just spend money upfront on guys regardless of how good they are.
The years are what bother me with this deal, he will be age 39 by the end of this. How many years are you getting with him at RF?

He’s a Yankee for life now. Can’t be mad about that. Now he’s got to go win us some championships and stop striking out.

Justin Verlander Max Scherzer Jose Quintana Carlos Carrasco Kodai Senga Pretty good albeit its an injury away from going to shambles. Mets bullpen still the very mess it was last year especially if Lugo leaves. I didn't even know David Robertson was still pitching. Brandon Nimmo is back though. Big money for what is a solid OFer who hustles.

Big money for what is a solid OFer who hustles. The SP depth is decent, it was a pretty big reason they were able to get to 100 wins last season (8 different guys started 9+ games). Peterson and Megill are the 6&7, and we have Joey Lucchesi coming back from TJ surgery. We need a long reliever now, but Robertson is going to be a quality 8th inning guy ahead of Diaz. Some team will pay Lugo to be a starter for them so I think he's definitely gone. Nimmo isn't absolutely incredible but considering what else was out there at CF there was no alternative. He's a Met through and through, and 20 million per for his production is very reasonable.

After the 185 mill DeGrom got and the over 40 mill per year Verlander got, Carlos Rodon getting 6 years and 162 mill is NOT bad. I am worried about some arm issues he has had but he has great numbers vs Houston and has been one of the best southpaws over the past 2 or so years.
Gerrit Cole Carlos Rodon Luis Severino Nestor Cortes Frankie Montas
I'll ride with it, still would like some insurance at SP but that could/should be good.

Mets signing Omar Narvaez means Alvarez stays for more seasoning in the minors or are the Mets not enamored with his defense and maybe use him at DH? I assume Tomas Nido is the backup C no matter what.
Curious move.

I am really curious what exactly happened in this Carlos Correa agreement with the Giants, there was a random medical issue that essentially put the deal on hold and now he signs for a nearly identical deal with the Mets. Steve Cohen said out loud he was late to the party on negotiations, did he talk to Boras/Correa and say he can match that salary or something? Correa is going to add a lot to the Mets, curious how he transitions over to third given Lindor has SS locked up for years. I know the two Puerto Ricans are close so I wonder how much Lindor swayed his opinion. Verlander too given the two ties in HOU, Mets got 2 of the bigger faces of the cheating Astros. The Mets have become the very thing you detest about the Yanks when you chose NY sides @admin , they are buying everyone and everything.

The Post had a back page a few months ago with Judge, Correa, Verlander and Diaz in Yankees uniforms. It was strange that the Correa-Mets links popped up on Twitter last week, and then his signing with the Giants was announced less than an hour later. Who knows if we ever find out the real story about whatever caused the issue with the physical (there is some reporting that SF were concerned about a broken leg he suffered pre-MLB) or if the Mets live to regret the signing, but Steve Cohen has fuck you money so who cares. NYM have also been linked with Liam Hendriks who would be the final piece for the bullpen. Fun times!

This Carlos Correa thing is really fascinating, Mets want to make a different contract with them getting red flags on his physical as well and Correa/Boras refuse to back off the contract agreed upon. Minnesota, whom Correa played for last year are now back in talks as well. I wonder just how bad these physicals are for both the Giants & Mets to balk at the big contract that Correa had verbally agreed upon.
Trevor Bauer getting booted by the Dodgers was pretty much coming, curious who takes a flyer on him if at all. Same with Aroldis Chapman who probably has an even bigger stench on him. With these two guys you get massive pushback, more so with Bauer given his was a bit of a delicate issue with rape allegations and all. Still a pretty good pitcher, Mets dodged a bullet by him opting to go to the Dodgers. Can't see Cohen ever touching base with him again.
Prayers for Liam Hendricks also as he was diagnosed with cancer. One of the best closers in the game, hope for the best.

Correa went from 13/350 to 6/200 with the Twins - his ankle must be hanging on by a thread. He would have been exciting for the Mets but I don't think anyone is devastated it hasn't come to pass given the risk, especially if it means the door is more open for Ohtani next offseason.

No big deal but how random is Jazz Chisholm being on the cover of MLB The Show? That'd be like putting Najee Harris on the Madden cover.

No big deal but how random is Jazz Chisholm being on the cover of MLB The Show? That'd be like putting Najee Harris on the Madden cover. Hasn't been a more random sport athlete appearing on a cover like this since Peyton Hillis and Madden. Then again, he went and saved his kids from drowning at the cost of his well being so he can probably get himself back on the cover after that. But for real, Chisholm isn't even the best Marlin on the team! If they were going to pick a Miami Marlin, they should have picked the lone female general manager in the biz, Kim Ng!

Missed the news that the Jays avoided arb with Bo Bichette yesterday. That's huge. The entire fanbase was certain he was gone this off-season.
While the Jays have yet to address some glaring issues (bullpen still needs a ton of work), they've had a solid off-season so far. Keeping both Vladdy & Bo makes me happy.
Fun fact: if both Vladdy & Bo stay healthy and on the pace they are now, they will both end up amongst the Blue Jays top 10 all-time hits leaders by the time their contracts are up. That's fucking nuts.
Blue Jays had success in the 90's but other than a few playoff births here and there, they've really had a dismal time.
