I was going over the list of games, I've purchased this year, turns out I bought way more than I expected. Even more so, since I was saving up to get married (from roughly September of last year to July of this year), but yeah my Nintendo Switch got a lot of love. 2022 GamesKirby and the Forgotten Land Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Nintendo Switch Sports* Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokemon Scarlet Rabbids: Party of Legends* TMNT: Shredder's Revenge TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection Wonder Boy Collection WWE 2K22 Other Games(Released prior to 2022) Castlevania Anniversary Collection** Cruis'n Blast* Mario Party Superstars* Metroid Dread Ori and the Blind Forest Ori and the Will of the Wisps Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Sonic Colors Ultimate Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania* Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 Unravel Two** *Games the wife bought that I've played. **Owned digitally, caved and bought a physical copy Honestly, there are a couple of games, that were released this year, that I wanted to get but wasn’t able to do so (Mario Strikers: Battle League, as well as Sonic Frontiers). Having said that, of course, I’m still planning to hopefully grab them by year's end. Oh shit, and Cuphead releasing physically in December on the Nintendo Switch as well. Anyways, I would say my top five games of the year would be… 5. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope 4. Pokemon Legends Arceus 3. Pokemon Scarlet 2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge 1. Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Land Pretty good list, if I had to make a top 10, I am still playing stuff like God of War: Ragnarok(And I have to get back to Horizon: Forbidden West) and am about to start The Quarry and of course the great news of River City Girls 2 dropping in 9 days but... 1) Elden Ring 2) A.I. The Somnium Files: nirvanA Initiative 3) Pokemon Scarlet 4) Vampire Survivors 5) A Plague's Tale: Requiem 6) Tinykin 7) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge 8) Pokemon Legends Arceus 9) Splatoon 3 10) Kirby & The Forgotten Land (Won't put Overwatch 2 since I feel it's an expansion, also can't put the Cuphead DLC due to how short it is) Worried about the 8-10 crew given I am making a push to play some 2022 games to end the year. Feel like 1-7 might stick for the top 10 barring anything crazy.

Blindy, maybe for the oldest kid's birthday (it's in February), nothing I'd play but who knows he might like it. A funny thing about being a parent, buying games you normally wouldn't buy. I ended up picking up Hotel Transylvania: Scary-Tale Adventures (for the oldest kid) and PAW Patrol: Grand Prix (for the youngest) for Christmas.

Blindy, as much as I love my top five list, I think Metroid Dread and the Ori games were probably my favorite to play through this year. Actually, scratch that, maybe Banjo-Kazooie as that was a lot of fun to play as well (played it for the first time this year).

I've only played through two games this year and I wouldn't be surprised if either failed to make the top 10. (Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Pokemon Scarlet/Violet) XBC3 would have the best chance but the repetitive combat and lack of strategy holds it back. Games on my radar Bayonetta 3 Splatoon 3 Pokemon Legends: Arceus God of War: Ragnarok A Plague Tale: Requiem Tunic Rogue Legacy 2 OlliOlli World Infernax Pentiment Star Ocean: The Divine Force Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative Azure Gunvolt 3 Vampire Survivors Triangle Strategy Kirby and the Forgotten Land TMNT Shredder's Revenge Horizon Forbidden West Stray Shovel Knight: Dig The King of Fighters XV Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream Neon White Cult of the Lamb Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Mario Strikers LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga Gran Turismo 7 The Case of the Golden Idol NORCO Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival
Now I'm adding Tinykin to the radar. Great list as always Blindy!
I see you're playing Ragnarok and Digimon Survive. What else do you have on your docket?
Also I couldn't imagine doing a comprehensive GOTY list. Guys, I'm still working on my 2017 list.

I just began Digimon Survive for like a half hour, I might put The Quarry up next. Did about an hour of that so far. GOW: Ragnarok has been on hiatus for about 2 weeks, not sure if it's open world fatigue but trying to get a few things done before I go back to that. Possible early 2023 game. I totally get you Big Pete , a lot of the games I played this year are from former years. Trying to go after my backlog or taking on games that appear on Game Pass and or games about to leave the subscription. Not sure if I have finished even 15 games from 2022.

Modern Warfare II is the only game I’ve played a lot of that actually came out this year.
Not far into Callisto Protocol or Sonic Frontiers to really comment.

Vampire Survivors is my game of the year. Hours per dollar on this game is unreal.

After playing the final game (on my docket) to release in 2022, fittingly enough a Final Fantasy, this is the list I came up with.
1. God of War: Ragnarok, fantastic combat, fantastic graphics, gold standard acting, amazing story. My only real complaint is that Atreus' combat wasn't as refined, pretty one note for the stretches you have to do it.
2. Elden Ring, really was razor thin with Ragnarok, which really won thanks to the story being memorable, but this did have one of the most intuitive open worlds of all time, nothing marked directly, but a look at the map and you could tell where to explore most.
3. Horizon: Forbidden West, these games just have no luck in the premieres, Zero Dawn dropping just before Breath of the Wild, and Forbidden West opening just prior to Elden Ring. But this was the epitome of what a sequel should be, bigger and better in every way, just when it looks like it's going to follow similarly to Zero Dawn, takes a sharp right turn, introducing an entirely new group of antagonists. While the fall of man in Zero dawn still made for the most interesting part of either, the mainline here was definitely the stronger of the two.
4. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, not much to say, if you're a fan of Borderlands, this is more of that with new classes and mechanics to tinker with, in a delightful comedy fantasy setting send up of D&D (like the DLC before it). Really nails the story beats too.
5. Evil West, this was a real throwback actioner, would have been right at home on PS3 or 360, and it was just pure chaotic fun. Story is servicable enough, but the gameplay was a frenetic blast.
6. Steel Rising, probably my favorite non-From/non-Nioh Souslike, I liked the different weapons and abilities, I can't tell you a fucking thing about the story, but I really enjoyed the gameplay start to finish.
7. Plague Tale: Requiem, another that was an improvement on its predecessor in every way, though the gameplay falls just short of great for me, it's enjoyable, not sure it's one I'd ever return to, but the story was great with a hugely emotional ending.
8. The Quarry, probably the best Supermassive game since Until Dawn, and I damn near got everyone out alive if I just didn't make ONE damn mistake. Still, the if you know Supermassive, you know what you're getting, just a solid "choose your own adventure" tale.
9. Final Fantasy Origin: Stranger of Paradise, another I couldn't tell you the story if my life depended on it, but, being by Team Ninja, it had a very fun combat system to keep things chugging along. Maxed out all the different styles by the end. Ended up picking it up on the cheap, I loves me some combat, memorable story or no.
10. Callisto Protocol, this one just snuck in over Crisis Core, was a good first effort, but falls short of the two primary Dead Space games. With a little improvement it could really be great though.
Honorable mentions to: Death's Door and Psychonauts 2, they were 2021 games, but first saw a physical release this year. Both would have made the list if they'd fully dropped in 2022. Psychonauts 2 at 4 and Death's door at 5, knocking out 9 and 10.

Still need to finish both GOW: Ragnarok & Horizon: Forbidden West. How did you like Dark Pictures: Devil In Me? A lot of people thought it was better than The Quarry. I need to get into the Dark Picture games, tried Man of Medan for a few hours and it didn't grip me at all. And you know 2022 is a good year in gaming when TMNT: Shredder's Revenge can't get in that top 10, really enjoyed the read RagnarokMike. Only played half of those games and finished 3 of them.

Ah, that's my mistake, Shredder's Revenge slipped my mind, though also thought it was 2021. Slip it in above Evil West and knock the Callisto Protocol off. Oh, and Dark Pictures was pretty close with the Quarry, but the Quarry just edged it out for me.

I can't believe I slept on FF Origins. Rags how close is it to a Nioh game?

I can't believe I slept on FF Origins. Rags how close is it to a Nioh game? Not really close aside from using a pared down version of the combat system, you can feel Nioh in some of the combos, but there’s no stances and such. Though the different classes also give a nice variety in abilities to add to the melee. Really enjoyed it, even if the story is entirely forgettable.
