So I talked to Big Pete, about bringing this back and he said it was fine, so we'll see how it goes. I think the biggest release for January is Fire Emblem Engage for the Nintendo Switch (in my opinion anyways), although I might end up buying SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake, if for nothing else then for the oldest kid, as his birthday is in February.

I'll get...
One Piece Odyssey (PS5) Persona 3 Portable (PS4) Persona 4 Golden (PS4) Fire Emblem Engage (NS) SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (PS4)
I'll probably get the Personas in January, but I'll wait for price drops for One Piece and SpongeBob.
FE will never go down in price, so I'll just get it whenever!

Friggin love that these are back Lony . 100% buying Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake. Got it half off on a glitch for preorder($19.99 which is more than acceptable), I really enjoyed Battle for Bikini Bottom Remaster 2 years ago. FE: Engage might be a game I play later on in year, especially if I can get it remotely on sale. It's the perfect Summer game honestly. Just have so much on my backlog. I feel like Dead Space will go on sale down the road if it's at all good. This month will be me trying to get rid of some games on my backlog. Not jumping down the rabbit hole of Persona 3 and 4 despite it being on XBOX Game Pass, again I only have so much time.

I was very happy to receive your PM Lony, here's to more VGMs in the future! January appears to be living up to its reputation of licensed anime titles and niche RPGs. However as far as niche series go, you couldn't have two bigger heavyweights in Fire Emblem and Disgaea. It's been a crazy couple of years for Strategy-RPGs with Triangle Strategy, Tactics Ogre Reborn and now these two releases and you could say fans of that genre have had their itch well and truly satisfied. I'm surprised Nintendo released Fire Emblem in January as opposed to February like they did for Awakening and Fates. I'm not sure if they pushed it ahead to give Octopath Traveler II some much needed breathing space or if they just wanted to get a jump on all the big releases. Engage appears to be a real celebration of the series with the theme around past heroes like SSB's Marth being able to be summoned. The animations look really slick and they appear to have a ton of weapons and strategies for returning players. After really going after the Persona audience with Waifus in Awakening and an academic career in three houses, this appears to be a culmination of everything the series has been about. Speaking of, of that list, I really don't see any big AAA releases other than Dead Space. I'm lukewarm on the release, but then I doubt it's for me. It's been 15 years since the original, so I imagine it's the 15 year olds of 2023 to experience in a modern setting with better fidelity. I definitely think it's a series worthy of recognition and while Callisto Protocol underwhelmed I'd like to see others in that Resi space. Actually I am sleeping on Forspoken, a new SquareEnix Action RPG developed by their division that cobbled together FFXV. This looks like a spiritual successor of sorts and I'm curious to see what happens when they get to work on a project from start to finish. This appears to be more magic based with a lot of mobility and while it's probably not going topush any boundaries, I could see this being a decent enough title to tide people over. A 7/10 that people reminisce about years down the line - essentially the 2023 answer to the PS2's Bouncer.

I tried the Forspoken demo and between the $70 dollar pricetag and the demo really being underwhelming(For me, it's just so damn empty of an open world and the combat feels like it's going to get dry really quick, I had enough and the demo was just 1 hour long).

I wish they made a definitive release of Persona 3 with the fem protag, controllable party members, with the FES post-game and proper in-game exploration. Golden AFAIK is perfectly fine outside of some contentious voice-acting replacements.

Golden AFAIK is perfectly fine outside of some contentious voice-acting replacements. P3P due to limitations of PSP took out the actual travel in city and the FES dungeon crawler but yeah the controllable party members is worth it alone. Regardless of the orders you can give, having Mitsuru continue to Marin Karin when it wasn't necessarily was teethgrinding. A lot of people get to experience the Almighty Nyx too . Great soundtrack too. Have not played either Golden or Persona 3 Portable so I am happy they are joining Persona 5 Royal towards getting on more consoles. Next Atlus needs to release the 2 Digital Devil Saga games. Absolutely needs to happen. More people need to play these. These are right after SMT: Nocturne as far as legit good MegaTen games. (Well DDS1 is, have yet to play DDS2 but it's more of the same so that means I will love it)

This time next year you'll be able to squeeze it in just in time for GOTYs.

I forgot about Kirby, but even then Nintendo usually doesn't release any of their IPs in January unless it's a port like New Super Mario Bros.
I suppose that may have been broken last year with Pokemon Legends Arceus. At the time I thought it was Nintendo bouncing back after a relatively quiet Christmas. I mean the only thing anyone cared to talk about when it came to BDSP was how broken it was and SMTV really just came and went. The only noteworthy thing about SMTV was how it alienated all the Persona fans looking for waifus.
