Anyway, Becky Lynch kicking off my list of favorite September matches, against Trish Stratus in the steel cage, and ending the list with Tiffany Stratton in an extreme rules match-up. Angel de Oro vs. Volador Jr. was another great match, especially when you consider that Volador fucked his shoulder up (possibly separated it), early on in the match. Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace delivered another banger of a match (following Rebellion in April, and Under Seige in May), these two just gel so well together.

CMLL and especially AEW have dominated this month, a big part due to the Continental Classic, which was fantastic and will hopefully be an annual thing.

Just chiming in to put you guys over for doing this. RT's deep list is particularly impressive. This thread takes me back.

So what is this? The #1 contenders battle royale for the right to lose to the true 2023 MOTY System vs. D'Licious?

Edited my list. Thank you KJ for reminding me about some matches I missed.

I never went back and watched GUNTHER/Drew/Sheamus from Wrestlemania after missing it. I am so glad I did. That was 3 guys beating the shit out of each other for almost 30 minutes without letting up. I remember seeing highlights but those don't do the full match justice.

(gonna be cheeky and mention "wow an NJPW-style match makes its way to WWE and the fans eat it up weird" but that is the only time I will say it. I can't help myself.)

Cody/Reigns belonged on my list as well but for whatever reason I forgot to include it when I updated my list after Wrestlemania and completely forgot about it throughout the year. It would have started high on my list and fallen off over the year, and to be honest it probably would have ended up in my honourable mentions, but looking back that doesn't feel right. Super compelling story and probably the best match I have seen Cody in since his dog collar match with Brodie Lee. Had to make sure it stayed in the top 25.

For next year I think I am going to go crazy and make my list a top 50. That, or I am going to become way more strict about how I rate matches. But that feels mean and kind of lame. I'm not Dave Meltzer. Clearly it doesn't really matter, but having like 30 matches in my honourable mentions is a little silly. And honestly I could probably add to it. And next year I plan to. I mean Wrestle Kingdom is in 3 days and they just announced Swerve vs Daniel Garcia for Dynamite tomorrow. I mean come on.

What I'm trying to say is I fucking love where wrestling is at right now. How can you not be happy with how good we got it?
