I know we have the 2023 June showcase thread up, however, I figured I would make a separate thread, for the upcoming Nintendo Direct. As they generally get a decent amount of discussion going (although, Big Pete if you feel this doesn't need its own thread, feel free to delete it). One of the big rumors going into this direct (thanks Blindy), is... remake of Super Mario RPG Which would be pretty awesome, although I suppose we'll find out tomorrow. Anything you guys want to see announced? Will we finally get a proper release date announcement for Hollow Knight: Silksong?

Not sure how true the SNES remake rumor is but it makes too much sense from SquareEnix POV and from Nintendo's.
For sure we will see...
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC information, 1st wave is supposedly coming this year. Danganronpa creator's Crosscode game which is a Switch exclusive and comes in less than 2 weeks Pikmin 4 showcase given it's the big title in July Splatoon 3 & Mario Kart updates.
I think it's too soon for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC content and given this is a 2023 showcase for Nintendo for the 2nd half of the year, I can't see Silksong being featured here.
Can def. see a 3DS port coming Switch's way, whether that is Kid Icarus: Uprising which has been rumored for so long or Zelda: Link Between Worlds which is criminally stuck on the 3DS is up in the air though.

Makes sense, I guess. Given Silksong, would either be an indi direct or partner showcase (I just want more info on the game).
As much as I'm looking forward to Pokémon Scarlet DLC and new tracks in Mario Kart, I'm hoping there will be a lot more than DLC announcements.

Actually the last direct announced a new Layton game (I believe it was in the February direct), so some more info on that game would be great.

Good catch with Layton, Level 5 have been very quiet lately. Can def. see a stealth drop for winter for that one.
Another one is Windwaker HD Remaster, that was right by Metroid Prime Remaster's side as far as rumors go. Can see that be a late 2023 one right before Christmas, would make a lot of people happy. One of the final Wii U games still stuck on the system. Can't imagine that will take too much of a grind development wise.

I hope we get a release date for the S/V DLC, but I'm expecting an announcement of an announcement and they'll probably launch it around September. I'm hopeful it's coming out next month and they include some modifications hopefully for the main game as well. Cheaper Tera costs (there should be some kind of loyalty program) and away to turn certain IVs into 0 so you can make more Trick Room teams/protect against confusion. That, access to legendaries, battle frontier, new mons would make this a must get.
{SNES remake spoilers} Super Mario RPG would be hype, but I'd much rather a sequel set in that world. To me Mario RPG is virtually perfect as is and I can only see a remake being low effort or like the other Square remakes that take away the soul of the game.
I'd be more inclined to see a Thousand Year Door remake. There's a few QOL fixes they could make to fix the back-tracking, room for more post-game, side-quests and optional partners. Plus GameCube wasn't exactly the most popular system and this is one of the few games that should be more readily available.
Not going to lie, the HD remaster on WW would be lost on me as I was playing through my Wii U copy in anticipation of TotK. I guess having access to the message in the bottles again would be nice, but you'd lose something by not having the Wii U pad available given how easy that made inventory management. Hopefully they pull a Metroid remaster with it and release it at a budget price and they also get TP out there as well within the next year.
A lot of remakes feel completely unnecessary to me, but Kid Icarus is one of those games where if they took another crack at it and made the on-feet section more robust and easier to play through it would make it a classic. I still really enjoyed the original 3DS version, but the controls were very divisive and it's a shame more fans didn't get to enjoy the story. It's one of the best Nintendo narratives and well worth a playthrough.

I know Sakurai is held in high regard within Nintendo with what he's done with Smash Bros and early Kirby games so I know he will want another crack with Kid Icarus. He probably wants a sequel, Nintendo I assume wants to see if this series can catch on so the middle ground seems like a remaster on the Switch and see how that sells. It's been 5 years since he's done something and I assume the Smash burnout is still there so Kid Icarus seems like a nice spell, even if it's a remaster. I've never played Uprising but I heard it was a killer for left handed players. I know how much Samus Returns hurt me and I am a righty so I can't imagine Kid Icarus on the 3DS. Given the 3DS digital library is finished, makes sense to see if this one can make the jump to the Switch. Metroid Prime sold super well for $40, Nintendo would be smart to price it at the same. Just a matter of when to release the game given Tears of the Kingdom is the prize of the ballroom right now and the DLC is must have(2024 I assume).

2D Mario if that happens is the thing I am most excited. We've gotten a taste of this with Mario Maker 2 but it just isn't the same, I am curious if this is a homage to the NES ones or SNES ones but either way, I think this would do really good, especially with the film's success. Wonder if this game is based off the movie, hope it isn't but hey.
The 3D Mario game has to be the ring general/leader for the new Switch console maybe coming out next year. That's the type of game you let lead your system Day 1 to get the buy in.
That or if again Sakurai isn't burn out, Super Smash. Or Metroid Prime 4 if Retro Studios can get it on time.

Nov 17 2023, are you kidding me?
Princess Peach getting her own game, wonder if that is the 2D Mario. That looks pretty sick too.
New Luigi Mansion too?

I'll have to wait until after work to watch the direct. I've avoided your posts for now Blindy, but did I hear that right, Detective Pikachu 2 has an official release date? Edit: not that you mentioned Detective Pikachu, but someone at work, mentioned it.

Watching the direct now, with the Wife and kids. - Thanks Nintendo for the reminder that I still need the expansion pass, for Pokemon Scarlet. - I'm definitely on board with Sonic Superstars, Sonic Mania was awesome and this looks like more of the same. I'm just gonna say it, the four-player local co-op will be awesome, as it means I can play the game with the Wife and kids. - Detective Pikachu 2 (err Detective Pikachu Returns), I was excited when they first announced this years ago. I got even more excited last year when I thought they were showing it during last year's Pokemon Presents (it started with a security guard, but turned out to be the Scarlet/Violet announcement). - Fuck yeah, the rumors regarding the remake of Mario RPG are true, I'm definitely excited about that. What they showed during the direct looked awesome AF (the Wife thinks it looks great as well). - Luigi's Mansion 2 coming to Switch, just take my money Nintendo, take all of my money. Also, I'll take the first game on Switch as well, please, and thanks. - It's not surprising, that they would give more info on Pikmin 4, given the game releases soon (I'll definitely be downloading the demo for me and the oldest kid when it's available). What is pleasantly surprising, is Pikmin 1 + 2 coming to Nintendo Switch. To date, the only Pikmin game I've played is Pikmin 3 Deluxe, but it was charming and a lot of fun, so I'm looking forward to having the whole series on Nintendo Switch. - Blindy since you asked, Penny's Big Break looks interesting enough, it's definitely my type of game. - Kamek coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, OK that's awesome. The other two characters are cool and all, but the hype is for Kamek coming in wave five. - Super Mario Bros. Wonder? 2-D Mario is back, and that looked incredible, to say the least. Um, what the hell? That ending, did I seriously just see an elephant Mario? Oh my God, I love it. - Man, kids, these days are spoiled, back in my day we had to have two different systems, to play Mario and Sonic games. Granted, I'm not complaining, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that I can play both Mario and Sonic games on my Switch. It's a great time to be alive, to say the least when it comes to video games. This was an awesome Nintendo Direct, about as perfect a direct as you can get. There was so much I loved about this, so much games I want to get and can't wait to play them all.

YEP we eating good. Really good. Platformer fans got a lot to be happy about this year. That was a damn good direct honestly and Nintendo is known to do something in the fall so who the heck knows. I feel like 2024 is when the Switch 2.0 or whatever it is called happens.
Gotta give SquareEnix a lot of credit. They have probably seen a shit ton of loss with Forspoken & so many strategy RPGs released(Octopath Traveler II, Valkyrie Elysium, Diofield Chronicles, that new Star Ocean, Tactics Ogre, Live A Live etc.) but Super Mario RPG Remake, Final Fantasy XVI, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 and Crisis Core Remake, SquareEnix has no shame going to the proven well and continuing to throw out bombs. Don't sleep on that Star Ocean remake too. Also had that Dragon Quest Joker game showcased a little bit too today.
They still are holding onto:
Chrono Trigger Parasite Eve 1 and 2 Xenogears Final Fantasy IX Remake(Rumored) Final Fantasy VI reimaging(The staff wants it, can you blame em? Best FF of all time IMHO)
Chrono Trigger reimaging gets people talking. That's an even bigger bomb than Super Mario RPG.

Spider Man 2 and Super Mario Bros: Wonder on THE SAME DAY.
Who do you pledge allegiance to Lony? Peter Parker and Miles Morales OR Mario and Luigi?
Insomniac just doesn't miss TBH. But this is Mario 2D. I don't know man.

Only mainline FF I've yet to touch is 8. Lowkey been not touching it for years hoping for a remake. That's kinda where I'm at with the past. If I haven't touched it, I leave it in the past unless they release a remake or something. Remaster has to be several gens back. My switch hasn't been used this much in a while and seeing a bunch of games coming eventually. I think that's mostly all I really want these days. Familiar faces and games that resemble them.

Dude Penny are you running the whole time? Like away from the cops? For some reason this felt like what 3d sonic always should've. There was just a coolness here you just didn't see outside of the first Adventure level. Got some A Hat In Time vibes out of that one, I didn't love Hat in Time as much as I wanted to but this game looks fun with the yo-yo mechanic. As for my 2023 Wish List Lony , it's a pretty healthy one and "business decisions"(AKA budget costs) have to be made... June: Final Fantasy XVI(PS5, that comes tomorrow) Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective(PS5) (maybe) Master Detective Archives: Detective Raincode(This might be a game I jump on when on sale, possible Black Friday purchase unless it just reviews extremely well...can't fit this and Ghost Trick at the same time) July: Pikmin 4(Switch) Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragon(XBOX, I got this on a glitch price for like $20 for XBOX so unless it's much cheaper digital, I think I stick with this)August: Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon(PS5) (maybe) Samba Di Amigo: Party Central(Switch, might be a game that I have to cut due to budget.....have it on a Target glitch then again, we will see)September:(maybe) Lies of P(XBOX, GAME PASS): I was underwhelmed the little I played of the demo but it's Day 1 Game Pass so much like with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, why not?) (maybe) Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty(I actually liked Cyberpunk 2077 when I first played it bugs and all so I would normally be all over this expansion, this is just a time issue...not sure I have the hours you'd want to tackle this open world) October(The bloodbath begins):(maybe) Forza Motorsport(XBOX, GAME PASS) (maybe) Alan Wake II(PS5 or XBOX, I wish this was a physical release. Might be a victim of the two bombs coming 3 days after this, potential Black Friday buy) Spider Man 2(PS5) Super Mario Bros: Wonder(Switch)November:Super Mario RPG(Switch) Persona 5 Tactica(XBOX, GAME PASS)(These two games comes out the same day..........the same day. Persona 5 Tactica didn't deserve that from Nintendo) This is just games with concrete release dates of 2023. Pokemon DLC, Elden Ring DLC, these are just more great headaches to consider. Waiting on that Sonic 2D game release date too.

Everything I read about The Switch is amazing. Mr. Stopped-At-Playstation-2 could be shelling out for a new console in the near future. It's such a good console from the portability to the ridiculous library of games. Visual novels, JRPGs, platformers, pretty much a crap ton of games. This console won't ever get the "next gen" experiences due to the console's lack of power vs say XBOX Series or PS5 but if you know what you want with this console(Nintendo first party games and smaller Indie-ish titles), this is a damn good system. The Steam Deck is also a valid choice if you can get one since it is technically more powerful but the Nintendo first party lineup is really good. What I would say though is next year news might start to come out that there will be a brand new Nintendo console that will succeed the Switch. No one knows if it's something brand new or a Switch Pro but even Nintendo knows they are far behind the pack when it comes to pure graphical power. Games run at 30 FPS and below on the console, games like the new Pokemon Scarlet & Violet were massive culprits of this in particular.
