Normally I don't get sucked into these internet debates , but this one is somewhat interesting. I've read a lot of commentary both ways that were convincing - but I want to hear some more. 

Does a straw have one or two holes PW? Give me the answer! 

It has 2 holes, one at the top and one at the bottom. I can see the argument for one since a straw is hollow but there are 2 clearly defined holes in a straw.

All depends if it's bendy or crazy.

A donut has one hole, you can stick your finger clear through it. The straw has a significant gap, it's down a shaft and to my eye (straw in my hand now) it looks different. If a straw is sealed off, I don't even know what you'd call that since technically a sealed straw is useless for a purpose. 

I don't know if that makes any sense but when you're looking a straw, the holes seem different to that of a donut.

Think of it like this, looking at the donut hole, you seem to be looking at 2 sides of the same hole. With a straw though, the 2 holes are in clearly different locations with a significant amount of separation between them.

Yes but the definition of hole says:  " a hollow place in a solid body or surface". That describes the entire elongated section of the straw as one singular hole. 

There are some other interesting "two hole" arguments too though that I've read in a stupid wormhole but I won't just spill them all out here.

It's just that I know what I see in front of me, the elongated part of the straw might be considered one singular hole but there are (to my eye) clearly two circles, one on each end of the straw, each capable of sucking liquid through or blowing it out.

My favorite "two holes" argument is the fact you can plug one side , and still have a hole. 

Crap. Coming into this thread I was firmly on the 'two holes' side but now I think there's a solid argument for it having one hole and I want a donut.
