Walmart getting rid of games next year
Best Buy to do the same with their physical but not vidya (for now)
My local superstore has been slowly shrinking their game section for a while now. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow... but it's coming. And it makes sense, the past 2 gens they've been pushing digital consoles and I've basically been there forever. I get the complaints people have, but the way I play/consume media is pretty much one and done so digital is ideal. I'm not really revisiting things 10 yrs later so a server going down doesn't bother me. I'd like to see them implement more subscription models for digital releases though.
It's coming boyos. Course none of it matters if I can never actually get my hands on a modern console like the PS5...

It reminds me of the video rental market all over again. Sure, you miss it, but when was the last time you rented a movie? With PS5 games, you're essentially just buying a plastic case, the disc only contains a fraction of the install data required and it's only going to become more obsolete as time goes on.
Can you remember the last DVD you watched? If you even think about putting on a DVD, you're basically thought of as Fred Flinstone. Yabba Dabba Doo! Even the olds would rather watch Netflix.
The physical media market has been dwindling down here as well. Major retailers would have aisles dedicated to each platform, now it's just one stand and a dozen or so titles. We still have EB Games, but it's only a matter of time before GameStop pulls the pin.
Don't get me wrong, if I'm buying a Switch AAA, I'm getting that cartridge. But even so we all know when push comes to shove, you're playing DKC for the 1000th time instead of swapping that cartridge over.
