This is NOT a report. It's merely something I've been pondering.
I sort of think Anthem could be getting ready to sell TNA/Impact.
Since Scott D'Amore and Don Callis took over several years ago, it's sort of been considered the best kept secret in wrestling. The wrestling has been good. The stories have been unique. It's DIFFERENT than any of the major companies in a way I don't find offensive.
Now, you hear they're getting ready to go back to TNA Wrestling, their previous branding. As with everything else in the world, no one is saying "lol tna", at least in my little corner of the X-sphere. Nostalgia is selling. (Check out Frasier on Paramount Plus if you don't believe me.) People are touting the return of TNA. People are excited. Damn it, I just got used to saying Impact.
There's also reports that they're going to be running bigger venues. There was even a report they made a pass at CM Punk. This could mean big things for Impact.
However, I keep coming back to a thought. AXS TV is in about 50 million households in the US (compared to 90 million for TBS and USA). I know there is an option to watch Impact on their app behind a paywall. I just don't think you can experience real growth when your weekly TV is unaccessible to the average wrestling fan. Most people aren't going to pay for an app to watch your weekly TV. Also, Anthem OWNS AXS TV as well. This brings me to my theory.
I think Anthem could be getting ready to sell TNA Wrestling. Wrestling is still pretty hot. SAG-AFTRA is (unfortunately) still on strike. This means networks need other content. Paramount is in the process of selling Bellator to the PFL. It makes me wonder if Paramount (the former Spike TV) could be looking to get back in the wrestling business. I don't see how TNA can grow as long as their on AXS, and I don't see them leaving AXS as long as both AXS and TNA are owned by Anthem.
Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I'm onto something. Just curious what y'all think.
