Elvis is Back! Elvis Presley (1960) Man Elvis looks a douche by modern dress standards on this cover , never seen such popped collar energy without it being popped. As much as I am a huge hypocrite when it comes to separating the art from the artist, it is hard to enjoy too much after just watching Priscilla and reading up on Elvis’ actions afterwards. Nonetheless this is a safe standard rock album, which I know he was edgy for his time but it’s a very mild listen by today’s standards. I liked Fever and Soldier Boy, but overall I just imagine someone’s grandma listening to this before lunch. Rating 5/10

Here’s Little Richard Little Richard (1957) Gyro LC guessed this as the #1 album which was a great guess but no cigar Surprisingly I’ve heard a lot of this album at work, forever ago before I started working only nights I’d work the cabaret functions where it was just performs playing hits from the past for the oldies. A fun brief (only 28 mins) energetic album all the way through. Long Tall Sally, Tutti Frutti and Jenny Jenny being the particular highlights of this great album Rating 10/10

This is Fats Domino! Fats Domino (1956) I was going to wait to see if more people wanted to guess but I just wanted to get this list done tbh  This is more laid back than the album above but still his its fun moments with Honey Chile, La La and Trust in Me. The more serious tracks like Blue Monday, You Done Me Wrong and the instrumental the fat man’s hop are enjoyable too. If you want something not as plain as Elvis is Back! but not as much of a party as Here’s Little Richard than check this out. Rating 8/10

The List sandylea got me this book as a gift and was the source for this thread, can be found on Amazon and book stores for anyone interested. Thank you all for following along. Like the rest of you I didn’t realise this was in release date order until a few albums in and it was too late by then. I’d listen to the #1 album (or so I thought) and all the other usual suspects were on the page that critics rave about so didn’t bat an eye. That being said I’m glad it worked that way in the end because the earlier albums having being released in the LP days tend to be short. Also helped me to not thrown in the towel, like I would have on trout mask replica at the start for example. The invention of the Compact Disc (and Britpop) was the biggest heel in this thread. While I’m glad I found some great stuff in here specially stuff I’d never think to seek out myself I think overall you have to have a personal attachment to music more than you do film. I’m sure someone that grew up during Beatlemania will appreciate more than I did or were into Oasis at the time they were huge. Not saying you can’t discover old albums and like them but I feel they work as a soundtrack to your life and you attach memories to them (or at least I do). Like for example Cruel Summer (the Kanye/Good music album) I can recognise it’s faults objectively but it released at a time I was finally gaining a lot of independence after some rather awful years for me (as mentioned in the 404’d mls thread). So I loved driving around in my Toyota Corolla listening to it . Also I don’t feel like I can articulate my feelings on an album to well when I’m in unfamiliar territories, as I said I don’t have any musical knowledge so I feel like I’m doing an album a disservice is someone likes it because of a complex solo or something. As for the list I feel like Tupac and Biggie were snubbed and the format was a bit hard to follow at times with the number order. That’s nitpicky but the one real complaint I have regards the #1 spot. It lists “This is Fats” by Fats Domino when the album is titled “This is Fats Domino!”. System surely they just wanted to save page space and you’re being pedantic? No, “This is Fats Domino!” is Domino’s 1968 album and he released “This is Fats” in 1967. The tracks listed in the description are on the former. Easy mistake to make but they really should have double checked that. Overall this was a really fun way to discover new stuff and have something to keep my mind elsewhere while going through the nightly grind of work and getting through the holiday season.
