Was watching some November ‘92 WCW this morning getting ready to hit the gym and sent me down the rabbit hole of looking ahead into 1993 WCW. Definitely plan to watch through what’s on the Network/Peacock. Eric Bischoff takes over for Bill Watts. 92 is so interesting since it’s a minor window where there was no Flair or Hogan.
Looking at 93 and Superbrawl III looks good. I know I’ve seen it before probably mostly as background noise. I remember the Sting vs Vader strap match but not much else. Card looks dope af for WCW.

Looking at 93 and Superbrawl III looks good. I know I’ve seen it before probably mostly as background noise. I remember the Sting vs Vader strap match but not much else. Card looks dope af for WCW. SuperBrawl III is a lot of fun, slightly below absolutely rocking. Crowd immediately abuzz because of the return of Flair with an incredible card on paper booked. First half does, indeed, rock. The Hollywood Blonds opener is really good, Pillman used to cite is as one of the many carry jobs he was a part of in WCW (Bagwell/Watts is possibly the biggest nightmare of a tag team one could come up with in 1993). Scorpio vs. Benoit is not quite Pillman vs. Liger from the previous year in terms of a revelation of New Style, but not far behind. Cactus Jack vs. Orndorff is basically the perfect WCW-almost-ECW match that would occasionally pop up (Cactus/Payne vs. Nasty Boys, Nasty Boys vs. Harlem Heat, Benoit vs. Kevin Sullivan, and so on), although before ECW's existence! Any other card, it's the best match of the night. But then WCW goes back to its rasslin roots with an awesome R&R Express vs Heavenly Bodies match, which also could be match of the night on most other cards. But Vader vs. Sting just also happens to be on this card and takes the award instead in a fitting closer to a very good card. Unfortunately, in between the southern fried tag match and the main event are a couple of stinkers. Rhodes vs. Payne is really bad and Windham vs. Muta, inexplicably, is not good. Windham vs. Muta being bad really does seem inexplicable, but with hindsight, maybe this is the point where Windham's decline beings. He went from one of the best in the world to maybe not bad, but kinda nothing, in record timing. Maybe this is the tipping point? But have no fear because Vader vs. Sting is next and that'll end things on a high note, obviously.
