Court case in Texas that is getting a lot of talk this week. A court ruled that a woman could get an abortion and the Texas Supreme Court rapidly blocked it.
Case is simply, a woman is pregnant with a child with Edwards Syndrome where a third copy of chromosome 18 is found. Considered a danger to give birth to a child with this as 95% die before birth.
Many also consider it unethical to give birth to a child with this. 40% of those that make it to birth die within a week. 80% after a month. 90% after a year. Children born with this have severe abnormalities including weak hurts, malformed lungs, weak muscles, malformed spines, digestive tract abnormalities and the most severe intellectual disabilities. Most need immediate surgery after birth and extensive surgery for the first year of their lives, and none go on to lead self-supporting lives. Many need full time hospitalization for life. Education is generally not possible either. Their lives are generally them struggling to survive in extreme distress until they die.
But here we are, Texas demands she give birth, despite her doctor saying it is too risky for her to give birth to this child that is unlikely to live through birth anyway and will never live a life worth living if born. Texas DA also claims they will persecute her if she leaves the state for the abortion her medication team abuses, and the lower court granted.
This is the exact situation people claimed would not be allowed to happen post Roe.

Everything is bigger in Texas including the maternal mortality rates.

Woman in this case left the state for an abortion. Now to see if Texas will charge her for it, as they claim is their right, or not. Believed that a state charging people for getting abortions out of state is illegal via free travel laws.
