Jigs, Raichu and Snorlax for me. Lax was a bitch to fight on Red's team if you lack fighting pokemon. I would get him to critical and boom Rest. Literally had to keep that up until he ran outta moves.
Raichu just because 90s badass edge. He was Japan Venom in my life.

Scyther for sure made my list. For a time he was my favourite Pokemon. I dug the whole ninja insect with scythe arms gimmick. I never actually used him in battle though. Haunter an obvious favorite. He's in one of my top favorite episodes in the anime going up against Sabrina. I think I like him better than Gengar (he is pretty cool too tho). I also like him better than Gengar, but I find it hard to separate Haunter and Gastly. They are both badass.

Haunter is way better than Gengar. Of course if he wasn't a trade evolution I might feel differently...

Dragonite was mine. I'll admit it's a weird evolution from two snakes and it's a little too cute to be considered a badass compared to someone like Charizard, but fuck love me some dragons. Hate Lapras. Hopefully hunters finish the job!

Rapidash - A really disappointing Pokemon. You would think it'd be one of the fastest monsters in the game, but it's barely faster than Ninetails and Charizard and doesn't learn any real abilities. It also appears during the mid-point of the game, right after you've already encountered either a Growlithe or Vulpix. I remember a lot of girls in primary loved Rapidash, so it's a shame that it wasn't given anything to stand out. Even in the anime it's a minor character and I don't recall it having much presence in the TCG. In fact it's most memorable appearance maybe Pokemon Snap where it was one of the few Pokemon to make the cut. Muk - You're probably more familiar with it as an adversary rather than as an ally. Through out the game you face off against a lot of Muks, but it isn't until you reach the final town of the game you come face to face with a Grimer. Is there any point to raising a Muk? Not really, it's too weak against attacks like Psychic and Earthquake which are incredibly popular in the meta. In fact, poison is such a forgettable type of Pokemon, the TCG retconned the entire species and made every single poison a Grass type. Omastar - It's sort of like Golduck and Raichu where the pre-evolution is far more famous. I touched on Omastar in my Omanyte review, but he's a fairly mediocre monster. He has fantastic defence and special but it doesn't have a lot of HP to work with and it's move-pool is fairly lacking. By the time you get it, your team is well and truly finalised and the only purpose of carrying one in your side is to train it for Pokemon Stadium. Hitmonlee - Like Omastar, Hitmonlee was designed for trade bait so you could effectively catch them all. Since it has a few unique moves, it's actually a better fighting monster than Chan and it wouldn't be until the Physical/Special split that Hitmonchan was able to become more useful. Back to Lee, it's High Jump Kick was a strong all or nothing attack which in a game filled with normal Pokemon came in very handy. It still ultimately gets outclassed by other fighters but Lee was a handy alternative for anyside. Ninetails - A pretty underrated Pokemon that seems to get overlooked for Arcanine & Charizard despite boasting better stats and a diverse move-pool. In the anime, Ninetails is known for being the evolution of Vulpix, one of the more famous monsters of the original season since Brock adopts one as apart of his gimmick. I don't remember Vulpix doing anything other than eating food and looking cute, but I'm sure it sold a thousand plushies. Like the others, it's another trade bait monster and one that would be pretty common too since you encounter one early on in Pokemon Blue and just outside the Grass Gym to boot. Machamp - It's right up there with Rhydon and Flareon ( ) as one of the strongest monsters in the game. Yeah, that's right while all the other Pokemon are getting their pictures taken or being used in games of Pinball, Machamp and Flareon are hitting the gym at the early hours of the morning getting their swell on. Machamp had a sick design and was one of the Pokemon that was featured heavily in promotional material, probably because of it's design that borrowed from popular mythology. Machamp was very handy against all the normal and rock Pokemon, but without any great moves it struggles to make the impact it otherwise should in the game. It was also pretty popular in the TCG, since it came in the official starter deck. As far as holo cards went, it was a very handy monster. Chansey - I had to include Chansey just so I could remind you all I was able to capture one in Leaf Green with a Lucky Egg. Do you know how rare that is? You have a 5% chance of encountering a Chansey, you have a 2% chance of it carrying the item and the capture rate of it is incredibly low as well. Chansey was a pain in the arse to catch, but when you caught it, you had the best brick walls in the game. Not only did it boast more HP than Snorlax, it's Softboiled attack allowed it to regain health without having to fall asleep. It served a similar function in the TCG, with the highest HP of any monster and since it was so easy to place on the field and retreat, it became a very common stalling monster. In Snap it was one of the few monsters you had to backtrack in order to take a photo of and in the anime it's Nurse Joy's assistant. Lickitung - I recently wrote about Magical Taluluto in the Retro VG&T thread and it wouldn't surprise me if that game designed Lickitung's design. For whatever reason, the NES and the SNES version made Taluluto's tongue his primary weapon, even though he typically used magic in the anime. Lickitung is one of the trade monsters you're likely to miss out on, since it's close to the end of the game and it's tucked away at a gate pass on the second floor. Not only is it awkwardly hidden, the game expects you to capture a Slowpoke, evolve it into a Slowbro and trade it for this normal Pokemon. In Pokemon Yellow this was changed and Lickitung became a post-game Pokemon you can catch en route to Mewtwo. It's a surprisingly solid Pokemon, certainly one of the better one and done monsters in the game, but it's typically outclassed by other monsters of it's type. In Pokemon Stadium, Lickitung has one of the best mini-games where you're playing a modified version of Hungry Hungry Hippos. Eat the right amount of food before your opponent and make sure to avoid the wasabi otherwise your Lickitung loses control! Finally Lickitung has one of the best designs in the game. Magmar - Another one of those monsters like Hitmonlee where it's available largely for collective purchases. Unlike Hitmonlee though, Magmar has nothing about it that stands out. Everything it can do, other Pokemon can do better so the only point of capturing one is trading it so you can get your hands on Electabuzz. It was really only in the TCG where Magmar could be handy, as most single evolutions were and Magmar was one of the earlier examples of a monster receiving a variation by the time Rocket hit. In the anime, it's remembered as Blaine's signature monster and his battle with Charizard may have been the most spectacular bout of the original season, or at least that's what they were going for.

Meowth, Articuno, Jigglypuff, Bulbasaur, and Lapras all made my list.
Meowth and Jigglypuff were purely due to the anime. Jigglypuff's such a nasty little brat. And Meowth is awesome. Articuno is due to my love of ice Pokemon. I immediately knew it was going to be my fave of the legendary birds just by design alone. Lapras was #2 on my list and I'm happy to see her rank so high. I liked the design and how it was definitely made for water travel. And I remember using her a lot in the Gen 1 game, though I usually use Starmie instead.
Bulbasaur was an awesome little one in the anime, probably my favorite of the three starters in the anime. I liked how he was stubborn but kind, and the first time I saw him throw a Solar Beam in the Pokemon movie, I was just in awe. Unfortunately, he ranked lower than Squirtle on my list because I could never really play Bulbasaur back when I was young. I wanted to choose him, but I thought Bubble > Leech Seed so little 10-year-old me went with the water Pokemon instead.

Think Pikachu was on mine, but again not 100%. In Yellow I liked putting him in the PC to piss him off.
I loved Gyarados as a kid. It was a bitch getting Magicarp to lv 20 to earn him though. Later gens is easy because of exp share and I think he at least earns a basic attack (tackle) by 10. But in the original you had to swap him out and slooooooooowly do it. Of course now I don't look at him as the same dragon badass he once was. Can't unsee him as a Jumbo Shrimp from Red Lobster.
Mewtwo, yeah in 7th grade nothing was cooler.

Don't believe any of the Top 7 made my list. Not really into the starter Pokemon that much, perhaps because they've been at the forefront of the franchise for so long. Same with Pikachu. I've come to resent him over the years because he's fucking everywhere. Plus he's an entitled shit in the TV show. Too good for a Pokeball, too good to evolve. Fuck you, Pikachu. You're not cute. You're a prick.
Charizard is actually a cool motherfucker, but he didn't make my list. Easily the best of the fully-evolved starter Pokemon. Blastoise is pretty formidable as well, but everyone picked Charmander first because Charizard is the ultimate badass.
Gengar is worthy to make the Top 10 even if he's not as appealing to me as Haunter or Gastly. The fact that he has legs and walks on the ground despookifies him significantly, but that Cheshire Cat grin is a nice design.
Never really cared for Mewtwo. I find it hard to get attached to any of the legendary Pokemon because they are so hard to catch and only available at the very end of the game, at a time you have a full party you've journeyed with and grown with for hours and hours. I've never been tempted to replace one of my "lifelong" companions for a super machine that just turns up in the final dungeon. Furthermore, they are presented like boss battles, so they come across as adversaries more than allies, even after you've caught them. Collector's items, not companions.
Thanks for making this happen, Lony! It's been fun. Any chance you can post my list? I don't remember what I put outside my top three

Unfortunately I can't Emperor, as I didn't save any of the lists that were PMed to me, from the old site. The only list that I have saved, is my own as I put it together, on my Google Drive account.
