I've taken some cooking classes. Haven't been paid to cook since my 20s. I tear it up in the kitchen and like to cook for others. Because I'm somewhat trained as an adult some people errantly have called me a chef. I say errantly , as I don't think of my self as a chef. Not sure why. But I think a chef is someone who gets paid to prepare dishes. But not sure if that is what the defining line should be. I guess, if I had a blog or cookbook maybe? If I had a successful YouTube? What is the line between chef and cook or pro home cook, or tears it up in the kitchen?

And I guess why not call myself a chef? I freaking tear it up. I dunno

To call yourself a Chef you have to do an apprenticeship and go through the ugly, there are no shortcuts to foundational skills and knowledge.

Tears it up in the kitchen is the ground zero left behind for anyone dumb enough to agree to one of those "I'll cook you just do the dishes" suckered agreements.

I don’t know what would constitute calling someone a chef. What incy said tracks I suppose. I’m a great cook. Something I didn’t discover until I got old. I even cook dishes I don’t care for, and they hit for people. Anyway sometimes I think I should have gone to culinary school. I seem to have a natural gift, but perhaps formal training would have sent me down a different path.

I think a Chef is someone who is red seal certified like most trades, as both cooks and Chefs can be paid.

I think many of you would be good cooks. I am not a good cook or baker. In fact I hate anything to do with either except eating the finished product.

Being a chef seems awful, the constant yelling aside the split shifts would do my head in and you can see the effect it has on their social life and this is coming from someone who works until midnight 5 nights a week.
