what do you want your family to do with your body? Cremated, put in a gold-plated urn, and have an Undertaker-themed celebration.

If I have any organs worth harvesting send em off to someone in need. Otherwise just dispose of my body the cheapest, least intrusive way as possible. For theend I'm guessing cremation, grind up the ashes as finely as possible and combine them with your finest Wisconsin milk to make some morbid theend aged cheddar.

There probably won't be any family members to claim me, so whatever the states decides. Mass grave after burning my stuff.

I told my kid whatever she does don't leave me sitting in someone's closet or on someone's mantle. Scatter me to the winds. I don't care.

Whatever they want. My hope is essentially what foos said, but if spending a lot of money to have me presented at a wake and buried in a casket will bring them great comfort go for it.

I want to be shot into space.
That’s prolly not financially feasible for my family though.
So yeah burn me and roll and smoke my ashes.
I know I should donate my organs… (if any are worth using) but I’d also need assurances that certain people would not be given them. Yes I’m petty, but no way do I want my organs to safe the life of a few people I can think of.

Oh yeah I really like the tree idea. I think I'd like to be a golden wattle.
I'm on the organ donor list too.

As a Christian, burial is the only option for me. I didn't know that. Really? Christians believe in a physical resurrection of the body, during the inquisition and reformation the Catholics would burn the bodies of their religious opponents and scatter the ashes in the river to scare people that they wouldn't be resurrected. While I expect that God being God can and will resurrect someone from ashes, to choose cremation shows a poor understanding of what the resurrection is for a Christian.

So is that the final exam? Having a family/support network who will ensure you're properly buried? Basically if you are put down any other way it's a 1-way ticket to Hell?

The second I saw this title, I thought to myself: "Theend started this thread, didn't he? He always brings up thought provoking threads".
I would like to be buried in a coffin holding roses and wearing a nice dress with the cross I was baptized with. I would also like to be buried with the icon of St John the Baptist, as I am named after him.

I don’t think all Christian sects believe this. Maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe it’s in their doctrine and that don’t talk about it much, in some cases ever? But maybe this will be one of those things where the Christian’s who don’t believe or practice this aren’t real Christians? It becomes very difficult when you’re on the outside to determine who’s a real Christian and who isn’t, at least for me anyway. Not trying to start shit, I’m genuinely asking do all Christian sects believe this? I’ve been to hundreds of church services in my life, Baptist, Presbyterian, catholic, episcopal, church of Christ, methodist, seventh day Adventist… a lot of services, I have lots of religious friends and family who’ve tried to convert me over the years. Don’t remember hearing much about this. But maybe I wasn’t interested or just legit forgot. I do seem to recall some preaching about the physical body resurrection. So I know what you’re saying isn’t outside the Bible. I’ve just never heard that cremation is outright forbidden… at least in modern times… bodies buried for 2000 years can sometimes be little more than dust depending on where you I’ve in the world… I find it fascinating that’s there’s even shit that can get me sent to hell that could happen after I’m dead. Like what happens if someone burns your body against your wishes? You don’t get a resurrection? Does that condem you? Like say your wife after you die says fuck it let’s just burn him to save money. On a completely separate subject I just buried my mother in December. The funeral industry is a complete racket. I can’t give you the figure, those of you who have had to make arrangements and pay for funeral know what I mean I expect. They take you In a room to pick out caskets and vaults. And you see things that range in price. But it’s arranged in a way to get to pick something not cheap. They use guilt and other tactics. Take vaults for instance you can now have pictures of you loved on put on the vault. Which will then in turn be buried in the ground and no one is ever going to see it again. Or something A little gilded instead of the plain vault. Theres thousands of dollars of difference

There is no ban on cremation, I never said there was, what I believe is that choosing to be buried affirms your belief in a bodily resurrection. I don't force those beliefs in anyone else or say that someone who is cremated isn't "saved" that's all above my pay grade.

Religion is weird.
Anyway back to my second point which I kind of just trailed off on.
I decidedthat spot jr isn’t going to have to stand in a room with a funeral director and have to figure all this shit out. Like seriously if you haven’t had to do this please hear me. It’s the fucking worst. So if you have kids I urge each of you to make your preparations for them down to the plot, The casket, and what you wanna wear. I had a grandmother who did that. She was a saint anyway and never did a bad thing in her life… but also thought of everything…
Funerals are overpriced, and a market you at least I. The states are forced to participate in. There’s no escaping it. Hell they get nigh on a grand for the cardboard box casket…
Do yourself and your loved ones a favor though and handle it now. So they don’t have to.

Mayhap I worded it a little confrontationally… but it legit wasn’t my intention. Was curious. I mean you did imply as a Christian “I have no choice” I wasn’t sure if that was a you thing or a thing to all Christian’s. Cause I know a lot of cremated Christians is all. Well people who called themselves Christians anyway.

My Dad has a box of 'nilla folders for his will, financial accounts, etc. thanks to being the executor of his Mom's a few years ago. That's very helpful except it ignores probably the main priority of a death... the body. He pulls an Emperor and passes the buck to his loved ones. I have tried to have a "THE TALK" with the family so we're on the same page but they always whine about not wanting to talk about it and 100% they're gonna whine that we should've discussed it before he died when he eventually does. I'd bet my life on it.

All34LOL, I'm sorry about you mom. One of my friends' husband was KIA in Afghanistan in 2009. I saw then and there how Funeral Homes prey on people to make $. They knew the Military was paying for some of it and they used her grief and the tragedy of it all to work her into making decisions she wishes she would have done differently, so I agree with you 100% which is why both my mom and I have ours sorted and paid for. When my Poppa left everything up to my mom without any plans or a will she was so angry because she couldn't even grieve her own father properly until after. There's lots to consider whether you are still alive and incapacitated and unable to make decisions for yourself or after you have left your skin suit.

We have a detailed estate plan, even though my wife and I hopefully have many years. Finances are covered, trusts for the kids, life insurance policies, etc.
They also include power of attorney, DNR instructions, plans for our bodies (no organ donations, cremation), etc.
It’s not an easy topic, but I’m glad we put everything together. We’re actually in the midst of revising our estate due to living in a new state now, but it’s minor changes.
