Who did you think was a rising star or already was a star and seemingly faded out of the spotlight?
They can still be working in their chosen field but not as talked about anymore & obviously not a knock on their talent.
Craig David
Born to Do it is one of my favourite albums ever. Since his debut I never really heard about him and seemed like he was out of the spotlight. He has back flipped on his stance (and appeared on the show) but he has blamed this show parodying him for ruining his career. The comedian has apologised for the sketches, I didn’t even know this show existed until I was looking up stuff about Craig David for my albums thread:
Living his best life judging by his Instagram though,
La Roux
This and In for The Kill were seemingly huge hits and Elle Jackson was even featured on Jay Z & Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne” back when being associated with Kanye was a boost not a detraction. Apparently they released an album in 2020, if you told me they had broken up 10 years ago I’d believe you.
Gotye
The joke writes itself. Gotye released this and the album Making Mirrors in 2011 and dipped.
Mike Myers
He used to be everywhere and people I’d talk to would always rave about how funny his films were. Now a days a rare sighting, seeing him in Amsterdam was a surprise.
Shailene Woodley
She is still in films but it seems they were setting her up to be the next Jennifer Lawrence. Watching Ferrari was first time I’d noticed her in a film for awhile.

Life House.
Remember " Hanging by a Moment " ?
It was the most successful song of 2001 in the US. Believe that?
This song hit its peak when I was in my senior year at High School, and it felt like it was everywhere very quickly despite a 2000 release.
Then.... I guess they had a follow up. I guess.. but you know, it obviously wasn't as good.

Lorde seems to have disappeared completely.

Gotye I think just didn't want to be a pop star, he chose to do other music projects instead of cashing in.
Lorde tried to do a stripped back sound on her last album and it kinda flopped. I think she has enough fans that she could rebound if she goes back to poppier stuff.
Chance the Rapper is still around to a certain extent but he's got to be one of the biggest examples of fumbling the bag in recent times. He was set to be one of the biggest hip hop stars of this generation and then his debut album was a complete stinker.
Joseph Gordon Levitt was everywhere for a while after 500 Days of Summer but hasn't really been in the spotlight for years now.

You don't hear much about Hayley Mills nowadays. Same goes for Timmy T.

Craig David much like with Jamiroquai(Who is MIA due to health reasons IIRC) is someone who should be much, much bigger based off talent alone but just never caught on the States but is well liked elsewhere. Shame really. I saw Craig David tried with a new album last year, haven't listened to it. Seeing "Insomnia" get a 2nd wing with a KPOP singer covering it years ago was cool though.
La Roux had 2 stellar albums and then just fell off, another one that I am not sure what happened. I can listen to most of Bulletproof and dig everything she was doing.
My vote would be Thousand Foot Krutch who consistently was putting out banger after banger for me in the late 00's and early 2010's. Listened to them so much during my college years, they haven't put out any music in a few years but their remixes late last year give me hope they may pop up in the studio.
This is more of a what if but I wish Fair to Midland would reform as they were well ahead of the curve as artists and sucks they could not figure it out with their record label(Serj Tanakian of SOAD got them signed to it IIRC, System of a Down is another fair nod to this where Serj going solo sort of stunted the rest of the band where Scars on Hollywood could not do anything worth a lick). Going back to Fair to Midland, their music was insane. Both albums were killer, glad to see them get a little bit of their roses years later in revisits.
Nothing More who come from Texas tries to scratch this itch but it just isn't the same. Still not bad but not the same. Def. inspired by these guys.

Michelle Trachtenberg.
Between Buffy, Euro Trip... and likely other stuff, you'd assume she'd have a long successful career... but that was 20 years ago now.

I swear You And Me must have been pre-loaded into every MP3 player back in the mid-aughts. That song was a staple despite not receiving anywhere near the airplay on the radio.
Looking back, Lifehouse had a pretty good run in the 00s. They were never going to change the landscape of music, but they found their place alongside the Goo Goo Dolls, Snow Patrols and enjoyed plenty of success.
I wonder how different Joseph Gordon-Levitt's career would have been if Don Jon was a big hit. It seemed like the next logical step in his career and had the movie found success it would have given him more influence. However despite his best efforts the movie was just fine and it didn't seem to have any cultural impact. After that, he largely just appeared in these middling bio-pics meanwhile his contemporaries like Gosling and Gyllenhaal are getting all these big roles. If he had have stayed in Don Jon shape and been more career-orientated he'd most likely be collecting some of that sweet MCU money.
I was shocked to learn Mika made more records after 2007. It seemed like he was going to be the harbinger for more melodic up-beat pop music only to drop off. I have no recollection of the 2009 album which seemingly did well here, and I think he was still enjoying some success over in the UK. I just wonder if it's one of those lost in translation deals.

I always thought JGLs choice was to go the less logical and more low key route.
He was appearing in teen movies in the late 1990s and coming off a hit TV show seemed destined for stardom.. then he decided for himself to take independent parts by choice, as opposed to necessity.

I think that was true in the 00s and he wanted to chase those more daring roles like Manic, Mysterious Skin and Brick but I think he had serious ambitions heading into the 2010s to become a more widely respected actor. He had some serious momentum with 500 Days, Inception, 50/50, Looper, Lincoln, Dark Knight Rises etc. but after his most ambitious project yet Don Jon, the follow-up films were all fairly middling. I'd imagine he went into movies like The Walk and Snowden thinking he'd be in line for an Oscar when they were all middling movies.
After that I can't imagine the roles were coming in, he saw the writing on the wall so he slowed down so he could spend time with his family. However now that he's trying to get back into acting he's struggling to get those head-turning roles. I don't think he quite made that transition from dorky but presentable 20 something into a 40 year old and he isn't quite out there like Paul Dano to get those meatier roles.
Maybe if he lands the right Black Mirror episode he could get something going.

More early 2000s - Vanessa Carlton. A Thousand Miles. This must of been the biggest song of 2002.
I hear it today, and I ask myself " where did the last 22 years go? "
