I'm so out of the loop with combat sports in 2024. I clicked a random article ranking all of the recent freak show boxing matches, was surprised how I never heard anything about these happening. Honestly I never heard about Ngounnu vs Joshua until after it happened. Got to say Joshua looks like a tough dude, that was a big statement win for the sport of boxing over MMA for sure.
But I've admitted here in the past how I really lost interest in any boxers taking on MMA strikers in boxing matches. ZZZZZZZZZ
Also seen an interesting note on FB that Francis N. was the lineal champion of MMA with lineage going back to Royce Gracie UFC 1. I'm not sure if this is true too lazy to think it out right now or look it up but still found it interesting.
So naturally this got the wheels turning. To me the ultimate challenge for a boxer would not be to beat a MMA striker in boxing rules, but to cross over into the cage and beat a Jujitsu master or elite WRESTLER. Has this happened really yet?
So how would this version of Anthony Joshua do in MMA rules against say Mark Kerr '98? Do we really believe he would be able to stop 1996 Mark Coleman from taking him down? UFC 8 version of Ken Shamrock that tapped Kimo with the knee bar? Could Joshua stop a prime Shamrock knee bar? Obviously yeah with no gloves in MMA rules he would stand a pretty great chance but it would be interesting. Anyways yeah random borderline fan fic fantasy matchup in my head I figured I would share, carry on/

Joshua vs UFC 100 Lesnar in a cage, who takes that? Wake me up when these boxers want to actually fight, Jeff Blatnick used to call the Octagon the Proving Ground for martial arts/artists always loved that. What does a boxer really prove beating a MMA striker under boxing rules? This becoming more and more of a thing after Mayweather/McGregor may have killed combat sports for me, that and everything Jake/Logan Paul

MMA rules Joshua gets smashed. This is no secret. They are two completely different sports and when you cross them over it's going to be an embarssemnt for the visiting team.
The only exception is Ray Mercer vs. Tim Sylvia. And that was only because Sylvia was an idiot and essentially agreed to a boxing match inside the cage.

Boxer vs Wrestler matches need to be a thing again. These Jake/Logan Paul guys bore me beyond belief, I have zero interest in seeing them fight anybody and click the "i don't want to see this" on the google feed at this point. Give me Royce Gracie vs Mike Tyson, anything else.

So much respect for Coleman to go in a fire to try and save his dog. Hope he is recovering well. Sorry it's off topic but that is a act of bravery even if the dog didn't make it. Dog supposedly woke the house up and saved the owners lives
