The supreme court case that upheld the country's right to sterilize any citizen deemed "unfit". You want to talk reproductive rights, and not talk about abortion?
Take an adult, Downs syndrome individual, capable of running their own business successfully and tell them they are not worthy of being a parent.
Take a prisoner, and against their will, sterilize them in a simple surgery.
Sound far fetched? There are people walking around today sterilized by the us government who were deemed unfit.
As mentioned in a previous thread, the notion of deeming an unborn possible Downs syndrome child as too much to bear or too challenged to live is challenging enough. But once born into a nation of stories of endless opportunities and the looming threat that others may decide you are unfit to be a parent must be unnerving.

Maybe we should just sterilise everyone by default, put everyone's genitals in a giant vault until they learn to think with something else.

Buck v Bell got massively eroded over the years. Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 nullified most of it.
That was a very fucked up case though, and sterilizing captured soldiers was something we did, as was sterilizing non-white collar criminals until about WWII.
Something to note in Skinner v Oklahoma, it was mentioned that the nazis were doing this to Jews. Case was 1942, arguments well before in the courts coming up. One of the clearest markers the US outside of congress was fully aware of the holocaust but just did not really care. Then again few in the US are taught that America knew of the holocaust and was still most against entering the war.
