Stupid Leafs.
Talk trades, signings, firings, the draft, etc etc here.
Sounding like big change coming in Toronto. I mean we all thought so but the fact they stayed the course for this long after blowing a 3-1 lead to Montreal 3 years ago is kind of wild. Fans have no idea what to expect.
They announced their media availability tomorrow but for the first time in a long time did not say who would be there.
EDIT: minor error. Media availability tomorrow with players and Keefe. Locker clean-out day. In the same release they said “management” will be speaking Thursday.
Next 3 days are going to be bonkers in Leaf land.

Leafs name Craig Berube head coach. I dunno how to feel.
On one hand, he has a lot of experience behind the bench. On the other, every time he has been named head coach of an NHL team they have seen quick success...then he got fired.
He was the Flyers coach for like 15 minutes, got them into the playoffs, then Hextall fired him. Then when he took over as interim coach for the Blues, they won a Cup, he was nominated for the Jack Adams Award, then he was fired a year after signing a 3-year extension. Sound familiar? (minus the Cup part, obviously).
I dunno. He's coached gritty teams that basically punched their way to success, so I guess it depends what roster moves the Leafs make this summer. If they manage to keep some of the guys that were grinders in the playoffs (Domi, Bertuzzi, Dewar, Edmunsson) and add some more to replace the ones they don't hold onto, then maybe it'll work. But the team is built around 4 guys that don't do that shit. Matthews has shown signs of it but he's not that guy, Tavares is too slow and injury prone, and Nylander and Marner wouldn't go into a corner if their lives depended on it. Berbue ain't gonna change that either.

I really wanted Colorado/Edmonton in the WCF so badly and now we might get Dallas/Vancouver. Gross. At least if that does happen, I know to bet the under on every game.
Hopefully Edmonton wins tonight and sends it to 7. Its time for McDavid to earn that superstar title.

Rangers got a nice cap break with San Jose picking up Goodrow. I remember speculating about future Rangers/Sharks transactions when Mike Grier became their GM. The tea leaves never lie.
NYR now have about 12 million for a right winger and defenceman.

Going to be a wild weekend. Not much huge news yet except for Linus Ullmark heading to Ottawa and Mangiapane heading to Washington for a 2nd round pick.
Oh and Calgary traded Markstrom to New Jersey and turned down a better offer from the Leafs because their owner hates Brad Treliving. The Flames ownership would rather stick it to the son of a billionaire than build a better team.

Is Utah Hockey Club an expansion team or did a team move there? Coyotes franchise was run by a piece of shit who had no idea what he was doing. After losing the rights to their arena they were forced to play in the ASU Mullet Arena that seats like 4500 people and didn’t have big enough locker rooms for an NHL team. They attempted several times to secure a land deal for a new arena and got shot down every time because A) the guy that owned the team was a giant asshole that nobody liked and B) Phoenix/Scottsdale is full of NIMBY dickheads that didn’t want to build a new arena. So the team was put on hiatus and allowed to relocate to Utah. The plan was to eventually have a new Arizona team eventually but only if the guy that was running the team had nothing to do with it. He recently sold off all his rights and as of now the Arizona Coyotes no longer exist but could come back as an expansion team under a new owner someday.

I've always had such a big soft spot for the Yotes. They were my first team before the Sabres and CBJ. I loved the kachina logo and remember winning a Cup with them on NHL '97.
Those fans deserve better, they exist but got tired of putting up with that shit and I don't blame them. With competent ownership that actually put in some effort, they should have either thrived or at least not been a complete joke.
It's not the desert but the sport theoretically doesn't belong on a beach either. Yet Tampa & Florida (a real big eventually in their case) still made it work.

Things are looking up in Jackets land. Monahan back with Gaudreau, reunited and it feels so good.
Price is admittedly a bit steep but that's also the cost of being a poverty franchise in hockey's siberia.

Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were killed by a drunk driver the day before their sisters wedding. RIP. This is sad.

Johnny's wife's IG post absolutely floored me this morning, terribly sad. When you become a parent stuff like that hits differently.
All the stories that have been posted about him and his brother make it seem like they were both absolute gems, makes one's blood boil that their lives because of a selfish asshole.
