Apples

So on one of my off days I tend to do my weekly grocery shopping. I was browsing the produce section and came across the cut fruit area. I noticed they had apple slices and thought it was such a stupid product. Now something like watermelon I understand. But you literally eat every piece of the apple. I decided I was gonna actually eat an apple, so I went with Honey Crisp... the most expensive apple. It was pretty decent, but not sure if it was worth the price if the others are of similar quality. So how about you PW... do you like apples? What's your favorite variety? Is Red Delicious full of shit?

Apples are a pretty major part of my diet, they are great. I buy 2 bags every week. On Black Friday I bought a juicer so whatever apples I don't eat I'll make some tasty apple juice on the weekends. Fresh apple juice from a juicer is so fucking good, so much better than the shit they sell in bottles on store shelves, that shit ain't apple juice.
Only problem with the juicer though is that it's a huge deal to make something with it. It's a fucking massive mess to clean up, and it takes a crazy amount of apples to make just a little juice. I used like 8 apples this past Sunday to make a tall glass, 5 red ones and 3 green ones.

Sorta similar. I love noting the pricing disparity between the different bell peppers by color. Green will generally be the cheapest and under a dollar. Red and Yellow can very between 1.49 to 1.99. I generally assume that the disparity is due to sell through and distribution. But I can not rack my head around saying a red pepper is 1.5 to 2X better than a green pepper.

Red delicious are really terrible. Apples aren't really my favourite fruit, but if I'm going to have one Gala, fuji or pink lady are where it's at. Sorta similar. I never buy green, not a fan of that dull bitter flavour. Red and yellow peppers are much sweeter, and because they're riper, have more nutrients.

Fuji is definitely a great apple, good call on that HR. I'm generally eating most fruits other than apples, but occasionally have them during the winter. I much prefer grapes, bananas, and berries.
As far as theend's pepper debate, again, I'm with HR. Orange>Red>Yellow>Green. And worth the extra cost.

Whoa... I feel like an outlier for being the only one who likes green peppers over the other colors. The others are too pungently sweet.

It may just be my grocery but the green pepper section is 3 times the size of the others. That may have swayed my bias to thinking it was a matter of distribution. I do see the other peppers repackaged and they do have extra shelving their too. But the green pepper bin is the largest in my local produce section. EDIT: A friend just tried to tell me greens grow faster than the others. And spoilage costs. We may be on to something. www.thekitchn.com/the-simple-reason-why-green-peppers-are-always-less-expensive-220876

Honeycrisp/Granny Smith are my 1A and 1B depending on mood.
Fuji and Gala are the tier below.
Mcintosh and Delicious is a level below that.

I realize now that I only commented on my bell pepper preference...
When it comes to apples, I kinda feel like Bubba feels like shrimp; I'm all about (perhaps in approximate order): apple crisp/crumble, apple pie, dutch apple pie, cinnamon applesauce, cinnamon apple cheerios, apple turnover, apple dumpling (although, is this really different than an apple turnover?), apple cobbler, apple cider, apple juice, apple fritter, apple jacks, applesauce, apple butter, dried apple chips, and then last... and certainly least... any kind of the actual fruit in a more straightforward format.

I'm pretty loyal to Gala apples. They have just the right amount of sweetness to them for me and are the best buy for the price. Red Delicious is utter trash. Not even in the ball park of Gala.

I used to hate Red Delicious but they are now my favourite. I’m used to being in the minority. I’m also an oatmeal raisin cookie fan.
As for peppers, I’ll eat red and orange over yellow and green any day. Green just tends to over power any dish it’s in.
