Who is keen & what is you favourite Alien film?
Resurrection and Covenant were the only ones I really didn’t like. The games, Isolation and the massively underrated Fireteam Elite are great also.

So excited for this. Feels like the first movie since Aliens that is not trying to tell some other story and just skinned on the Alien theme.
Director pretty much said he wanted to take things back to a survivor horror base while staying true to the source. While a lot of people claim this and lie, he nailed the Evil Dead remake. And dude can do scary, Don't Breathe showed.

This feels like any generic teen slasher flick, with the Xenomorph standing in for ghost face.

This franchise should've stopped after Alien 3.

This franchise should've stopped after Alien 3. I haven't seen anything beyond Aliens and I have little interest. I didn't even know there was an Alien 3, I thought it went to Prometheus, Covenant, and all those prequelly stories with awful reputations. How is Alien 3?

Alien 3 was not very good either. The process of creating the script for the film was shitshow and Fincher was limited in terms of what he could do based on it as the producers demanded he stick to it. He disowned the film since. James Cameron came out hard against the film too saying the story was an insult to him and his film (Aliens) as they kill off his characters offscreen.
For this film the director is ignoring everything after Aliens he said. Wants to realign the series with what made it so good. So exploring what the company is doing in terms of research while trying to stay alive as the xenomorphs hunt them. The larger philosophical stuff the rest of the series tries to get into he is not getting into he said.

Truthfully only ever seen Alien Resurrection. It's one of those franchises where all the lore is made up in my head based on the figure line. Never really tried to watch any of the the movies. The idea of it being a cheap slasher with aliens does intrigue me way more than anything since then.

First two were great, third was so-so, then the rest sucked. This director on the new one knows this is how most people feel and just wants to try to get a good movie done.
First film inspired a lot of slashers, so returning to that form, should give much of the same feel. I imagine a lot of this will be people being stalked and killed one by one by the xenomorph.

The first two Alien movies were good. I do enjoy the Alien vs. Predator movies (the second one more so, than the first one). Outside of that, I haven't seen anything else from the franchise, although I am looking forward to this new movie.

Aliens the second one has always been one of my favorite movies, for somebody to have never seen that blows my mind @ness are you really alive or just breathing bro. I came to appreciate the first one a lot more as an adult that can appreciate that story. Always just love the whole concept of it how they just stumbled upon some ancient advanced master race of aliens and how much of that was left to the imagination. I even really liked Prometheus and how they tried to give you more info on their origins, I still don’t get the hate for that one I Thought it was a fine prequel.
Alien 3 was bad but had its moments.
Alien Ressurrection is balls to the wall good time always loved that one maybe my second favorite of the series. Never got the hate for that one either. It is lovely, plus I love anything with Brad Dourif one of my favorite actors.
Anything other than that I don’t even want to give the time of day or acknowledge its existence, like all the recent Terminator movies, they have clearly forgotten how to Make movies like these it’s a lost art.

This franchise should've stopped after Alien 3. They should have stopped after Aliens. Alien 3 was garbage.

Fincher would agree, he disowned it. He had no input in it. Could have been a good film there, but the studio execs claimed they knew best and they got what they wanted.

Brilliant entry into the franchise, I hated what they did with David and that whole reveal in Covenant so I’m glad the film barely goes into that and instead goes back to basics, much in line with the original.
Even the opening crawl was a fantastic touch.

Watched this tonight and it was amazing. I liked how the stuff from Covenant and Prometheus was not thrown out entirely, but used in the background.

I’m honestly baffled how everyone is enjoying this movie. It was beyond predictable, boring, and the characters were unbelievably bland. The performances with the exception of David Jonsson (Andy) were horrible. Every time a scene was well done/unique it just repeated itself or dragged on.
I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of the Alien franchise, but I was excited for this one because it looked like it was going to lean heavy into the horror and sadly it didn’t. Just leaned super heavy into more of the rape/sexual imagery.
So disappointed, and it’s even more frustrating that everyone loves it because that means they won’t ever find a reason to improve. Bahhh

It's probably unfortunate that we watched Alien the night before. I might have enjoyed Romulus more if Alien wasn't so fresh in my mind. Romulus is a bit too similar, more of a copycat than a homage. Except it has a weaker plot, weaker characters, I was less invested as a whole. Andy and Rook, the two synthetics, were the only interesting characters, everyone else felt two-dimensional at best. I can't give it more than 5/10.
Obviously the special effects were great; the alien-human at the end was incredibly nightmarish. Plot-wise there were some interesting ideas, mainly around Rook and the scientific research into the xenomorphs, but it wasn't fleshed out, just an excuse for the alien-human to be birthed.
Overall it felt like a video game translated to film (like Dead Space). Lots of missions, side quests, a bit of shooting, that weird scene where they floated through the acid blood.

Sounds like the direction all movies are headed more in. Less quality / substance. More flash. Especially with reboots/remakes/sequels, it has always been pretty rare they outperform an original from the start. But I usually hope for at least something meritable. Oh well.
