AEW Dynamite featuring NJPW is an interesting concept While I appreciate the volume of NJPW guys showing up, it was all very superficial, fan servicey, lacklustee presentation. It's Okada debuting in a t-shirt all over again.

Speaking of Okada, he's great. Tanahashi is a real step down. The hype video was cool but Okada was right to be laughing. Billy Gunn is more of a threat than Tanahashi.

Rewinding back to the start, the booking of Naito is dreadful. Playing to Naito's strengths would be having him wrestle the tag match, piss off Moxley with tranquilo bullshit, then later Moxley wallops Naito with a chair to start the brawl, quickly exit everyone except Shingo and Wheeler, end with the Danielson staredown.

Instead Naito is not in the match, and his only action is a terrible brawl, terrible because Naito is not a brawler. Yeah we got an extended entrance, completely inappropriate because his friends were getting pummelled.

Zack vs Kyle was merely good, which is surprising. The ending was a clusterfuck of let's-have-Japan-guys-show-up-for-no-reason. Why is Gabe Kidd with those goofs? What the fuck?

Minoru Suzuki's appearance was the only NJPW appearance they got right. Fun video promo. He's in the right place fighting the right guy.

What did I miss from Daniel Garcia? Is there a reason, other than BUFFALO NEW YORK, that MJF and Ospreay are lining up to fight him? :huh: I appreciated MJF for once having some egg on his face in an interesting way.

The main event was a waste of time but loved the aftermath. Swerve not taking that shit twice in a row.

The Toni Storm/Shirakawa build was interesting but suffered from unnecessary escalation. Keep that Maria May tension simmering until the match.

Emperor re: Daniel Garcia. He has been quietly stacking wins on Rampage and Collision and recently announced that he wants the International title. MJF is a face now so they had to do the “right here, IN BUFFALO!” Promo together, and it kinda makes sense since they are two AEW OGs.

Ospreay upstaging MJF by interrupting plants the seed for a future feud. I thought that segment was done really well, albeit a bit long.

And I agree 100000% on Naito. Everything about the build to this match has bugged me. Every year it’s “AEW featuring some of NJPW” and they get some stuff right and some stuff wrong, and if they wanna treat it like a fun non-canon event, fine…but this is NJPW’s main title. And a gaijin that doesn’t even work for them has it. And every year prior to this at Forbidden Door, NJPW has eaten shit from AEW. And now this year their two biggest stars of the last 5 years are on the AEW side.

They should all be fed up. Not only should Naito be more involved, but he should be fucking PISSED. LIJ should be fucking up Moxley’s day at every turn, doing everything they can to get Mox softened up for Naito to return the belt home.
