Still chipping away at my 2017 Backlog, recently picked up:

Digimon World: Next Order - I remember Mistress being hyped when this came out and had always wanted to pick it up. I didn't intend to take over 7 years to get there, but here we are. This is the spiritual successor to the PS1 Digimon World game which was one of the more unique RPGs on the console. I heard it doesn't do anything mind-blowing, but keen to check it out.

ARMS - I missed a pretty decent deal off of Ebay, only to find it for less at CEX.

Cuphead - One of my most anticipated games of 2017, yet strangely I didn't pick it up on release and it kept dropping down the priority list. I think I was under the misconception that it was an XBone exclusive and by the time I realised it was available on PC, it was Odyssey time. Picked it up and currently I'm playing through it and having a blast.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTY - Bucking the trend here, Oblivion was one of those games that came with my 360 way back when but I only ever played the tutorial. That copy has long since been lost and when it was on sale the other week I was tossing up whether to get it. For $8, I'll give it a session or two.

A Hat In Time - Another game that fell into the Odyssey vortex. Had this been released around the time of Yooka I would have been all over it. Like Cuphead, it's retained it's price relatively well and has just never hit that FOMO price. For whatever reason, I remember the game being compared to Mario Sunshine, but I'm not sure how accurate that comparison is.

.hack//GU - I've always wanted to play through the original .hack games on PS2 and while I'm pretty sure this is just a spin-off, it's still right up my alley. I believe it comes with a brand new game to help tie the spin-off together and for $7 it was worth chucking in.

Little Nightmares - I keep expecting this to be given away on Epic, but no dice so far. It's in that vain of Night in the Woods where it was a stand-out indie release.

Pyre -Anyone played this? Supergiant have a massive reputation in the indie space with games like Hades, Bastion etc. and this was their 2017 release that got really good reviews. It looks great, but again I hardly know anything about it. For whatever reason, I recall it being a PVP type of game but couldn't tell you how I got that impression.

Gorogoa - A puzzle game that was a critical darling featuring in a ton of GOTY awards. It was good enough to get tossed into the pile.

The Sexy Brutale - Another puzzle game that I remember Easy Allies championing so threw it on there to see what the hubbub is about.

Still have about $20 tucked away with a 100+ games on my wishlist. Tossing up between Tokyo 042, West of Loathing, Nidhogg 2, Battle Chef Brigarde, Finding Paraside etc. to finish this haul off.

Anyone else making any recent purchases?

I played or own the following of that grouping:

ARMS- It's a better game than what people give it credit for and sure the single player is viable(That final boss is SNK levels of annoyance though) but do people still play this game online? I loved Ribbon Girl IIRC, that was my go to fighter.

Cuphead- one of the best games of it's year, get this and the DLC The Delicious Last Course together if it's affordable. The latter DLC just came out last year IIRC. It's challenging but it's just super fun to pick up and if you die, you get right back in it.

A Hat In Time- Was a bit letdown by this game, it suffers from "Indieism" where you can feel it isn't fully polished, especially in comparison to games it tries to be like ala Super Mario Odyssey etc. It is very much comparable to the 3D Mario games but I just wish there was more to do in the game, like the worlds feel sort of bare bone when you dive away from the obvious path. I am impartial to 3D platformers and was really rooting for this one, but it was like a 7/10 for me.

Little Nightmares I- With the 3rd(!) game coming out I think in 2025, I want to try and find a good deal on Little Nightmares II but the lowest I have seen it go is $10 digitally. Wish it would just pop up on Game Pass or something. 1st Little Nightmares is very much like the Inside/Limbo sort of side scrolling mini horror puzzle platformer. Feel it's more polished but little things like fall damage and some of the stealth sequences could have been a bit better. Bit short of a game too so that's good or bad pending on how you view it.

Pyre and Transistor both got caught in between games like Hades & Bastion, I've only played Hades I which is fantastic. Supergiant games are a studio I want to try and play more games of.

Did not like Sexy Brutale, played it for like 15-20 minutes granted and it just didn't grip me what so ever. It's a small sample size though.

First sale in awhile I managed to just get nothing during.

Right now really only replaying Grounded on my steam deck. No game really excited for until Metaphor drops. That one not gonna be cheap so would rather save my cash for it.

Also likely will get the Dead Rising remaster on release if it plays well on the steam deck.
