To quote the immortal words of the great poets Blink 182. My friends say I should act my age, whats my age again.
I know it's probably not the place to ask it, I mean we are all old farts posting on a pro wrestling message board....
Do you find people have some weird things about acting your age. I can be guilty of this... I have friends of friends who are married with young families but want to go surfing or motorbike riding on a weekend. I'm all for the occasional adventure even though I don't do it myself, but I think once you have a family you should put your time in with the family.
On the more mundane side... I have one asshole customer who is my age who made smart ass comments when I got my haircut because I get a fade, he things I'm too old for it... He's bald so I would chalk it up to jealousy, but he's the kind to wear a button down business shirt everywhere... I have friend who are the same... Maybe it's age appropriate, but I'm more a t-shirt, polo if I can get away with it and a shirt for church and nice restraunts and business meetings type of thing.
Do you have things pull you up on for your age, or things you reckon people should grow out of?
I also don't like it when parents put their kids to bed and drink to excess, I think there's a responsibility factor.... But I don't drink so it's easy for me to be a bitch about this. I also shouldn't be a fat ass... So I'm a hypocrite.

It's the wrong forum, and if there was ever a time I should read the room... but, fuck it.
Video Games.
In moderation, sure, great. But, as a lifestyle - no, especially when you have kids.
I have a mate who said years ago, he never wanted to be in a relationship because he might have to give up things like gaming. That probably sounded cool when we were all of 19 and huddle around the PS2 thinking how incredible San Andreas was and we'd be playing it forever. But he's now 40, and he still lives like a 19 year old. And single.
I'll admit, I've got Playstations 2, 3 & 4 around the house.. in storage. And there's a modded SNES Mini permanently set up for my kid. I had a brief period of online gaming - Battlefield 1 and 5 on PS4 and some COD, but struggled to find time when my son was born. Ever now and then I'll buy a game and have a few weeks of gaming and lose interest.
I don't hate it, but I see a lot of guys my age obsess over it, despite having young families and I just think there's much better ways to spend your time. If I think back to my parents, I couldn't imagine them at 40 huddled around a SNES for hours playing Donkey Kong Country until 3 in the morning.

For most people, I probably dress way too young for my age with my Star Wars and Nerdy shirts/dresses, then there's my Wonder Woman bedroom and all my statues and comics. I grew up way too quickly due to situations beyond my control, and they make me happy so I don't care. Once they cease making me happy, I'll give them up.
Then again I also feel (at heart-not body) like I'm 28 instead of almost 48, so...

Great Britain is one of the more pompous, stuck up countries. Perhaps it's the same everywhere, but older generations tend to look down on gamers, streamers, influencers - essentially anyone who uses technology an "excessive" amount. They moan as they sit in front of their television every evening, oblivious to the irony. Of course I am generalising. Regarding video games. It's accepted for a child to grow up playing soccer outside, it's accepted for a child to grow up playing video games inside. It's accepted for a child to grow up to be a professional soccer player, or any other type of athlete. It's not just accepted, it's celebrated. If that child grows up to be an e-sports professional, it's maligned. Why? I don't know. Societal conditioning, I guess. Video games are for children. Why is being a professional athlete with a family any better than being a professional gamer with a family? Surely being a gamer is better because you're at home a lot more than a professional athlete would be. I realise I'm responding to NATH45 instead of the OP. Honestly I have a hard time answering the question because I believe the concept of "acting your age" is a myth. I'm in my 30s, I'm married, I play video games. Not obsessively, but I play them. I suppose that falls under the definition of not "acting my age" but I never thought of it that way. It's a fun way to spend my free time. My wife often joins me. It's fun when I was 10, it's fun when I'm 30, it'll probably still be fun when I'm in my 50s. Most things that are fun as kids are still fun as adults. Theme parks, family-friendly movies, joking, smiling, laughing. All fun. There's no need to restrain ourselves so much when we grow up for the sake of artificial social posturing.

I think there's a difference between playing in moderation or even as a casual hobby and dudes who neglect all aspects of their life to raid. Then again if they have a wife and kids they must be doing something right. Least until they get served the papers...

I have no problems with it, and as @ness suggested, there's a difference in casual or moderate gaming and it being the be all and end all. A night in front of the television is likely how most of us spend our evenings anyway, and if gaming replaces that, that's cool. But a 40 year old playing Pokemon all day and night, maybe not. Look, my entire outlook will probably change when GTA6 is released and there'll be days when I'm essentially MIA. And iNCY, there's nothing wrong with a fade. It should be the standard issued kit for any man over 35 with a hair line.

On the video game opinions: Emperor & NATH45, I think @ness was pretty close in his comment. When I was young my Dad would have attitude about too much VG playing, but he would spend longer watching the TV than I spent gaming. It is not about what you do, but when you do it. If you have a family and you VG is causing you to neglect your family that's no good... As it would be if it was golf, gym, fishing whatever.... If it is something you enjoy in your own personal downtime that doesn't interfere with family life, then it doesn't matter so much what it is. I also agree NATH45 that the fade is a neat masculine haircut that is the modern day equivalent of the short back and sides. I agree with you iron maiden, and your taste is not a reflection of maturity. For me a lot of it comes down to comfort, if I am wearing a T-Shirt and a comfortable pair of pants then I am not aware of what I am wearing and I do my best work... I suspect this is probably a non-neurotypical thing. Back before Zuckerberg got his makeover (He's a straight baller now) he had this thing where his wardrobe had multiple I think it was navy blue T-shirts and gray hoodies. His justification was that it was one less thing to think about in the morning... And I totally get that.

Like iron maiden, definitely my choice in clothing. A number of years ago I realized a huge chunk of my wardrobe was black, grey, and navy clothing. Since then I've intentionally gone out of my way to get colourful shirts. Of course they're all nerdy. Pink TMNT short, orange Transformers shirt, blue Booster Gold. Green Sonic. Purple, burgundy, red, yellow. Of course I have a few generic colour shirts but it's mostly all nerdy colourful shirts. Also I guess hats? Most dads in their 40s don't wear baseball caps. I try to wear them less and less. Comics are still a part of my life. There's probably a chunk of ignorant people out there that think it's not age appropriate but that really is further from the truth. I still game. Just Madden or NHL. Probably too out at 2 hrs per week. But my generation and just a bit older are truly the first generation that grew up with video games throughout our lives. I'm either the oldest millennial or youngest Gen X, and everyone I know plays games in some capacity still. Whether it's console, computer, or mobile games. It's accepted entertainment. It's just the boomers and older Gen X that didn't grow up playing that wrongly think video games are for kids.

Getting in mosh pits, it’s just annoying especially when people try to mosh to stuff that isn’t heavy. Coincidently saw this in the GA when I saw Blink. Went to see Sanguisugabogg and a very big guy that was at least 30 trying to crowdkill. There was no room and people were rightfully getting pissed off. Like I know it’s annoying at any age, but can’t you see the rest of us “older” guys trying to enjoy the show at the back! Other than that, I can’t really think of much. Seems to heavy depend on whether you have children or not. I see this attitude toward watching sport on TV, as opposed to watching anything else isn’t the same. “My son just sits around watching CheeseDude420 play Roblox” “We won! We beat the broncos!” - same dad/NRL supporter sitting on his couch.

Golden Goose sneakers always perplex me, they purposefully look dirty The " fake tradie " trend annoys me. I saw the most pompous Bryon Bay Hipster destroying a pair of jeans recently beyond the accpetable distress look. He was throwing paint and grease at them to give it a " worked " look. I then made the mistake of checking out his profile, and it equally horrible. Plus the man wouldn't last past morning smoko around real tradies.

I am the ultimate chameleon my wardrobe has suits and work clothes and everything in the middle. Most tradies don't dress like the weekend warriors at the hardware store type you see... Also the Australian tradie in the middle of winter: beanie, vest, jacket, explorer socks... And shorts! I am a qualified tradie... Sometimes I spring it on people in business meetings when the maintenance department are BS-ing about something. Then I get the "oh shit they know" look.

I'll go on binge gaming streaks occasionally but they're rare anymore. Honestly I spend probably 5-10 hrs (if that) weekly. FIFA was my last big addiction and the frequent stupidity and rage-quitting (never throw my controller or break anything, more of the "this is bullshit!" walk out of the room type) actually helped me to reflect on overplaying and start distancing myself from it. Thanks for sucking (I guess?), EA. Also that last sentence there succinctly sums up everything I had come here to say with probably far less word salad. Well said, Emp.
