In terms of school supplies it was the equivalent of being the kid with a trampoline wasn't it? That built in sharpener in the booty hole was the truth.
Mechanical pencils, never really got over with me brother. Always felt cringe like those 90s shirts of looney tunes dressing in JNCOs. Never liked those pens with the eraser. Nothing but blue bics for life. When some jobber asks to borrow paper I used to question, why are you even here? Did your parents boycott getting "tissues" as school supplies to give to the class. That was a thing in elementary school. Is that socialism, providing kleenex that you don't personally use every one? For the greater good in the battle against runny noses.

When I was at school the rich kids had the set of Derwent pencils and we all had the knock off brand.
Kids still love stationary though, my girls love Officeworks for office supplies and Smiggle which is stationary for kids... There's so much more of it now than when I was a kid, and it's all so cheap now.
I'm a bit of a stationary snob, I love a good gel pen, it's hard to go back to a bic after that.

We just have to give the school $100 and they buy classroom supplies. Ya know to ensure everyone has the same stuff so kids don't feel left out.
