How much do you care about the sound quality when it comes to music?
Happy to listen to MP3 rips with earbuds off Temu or are you full audiophile or somewhere in the middle?
Also if anyone has any suggestions for albums that sound fantastic in terms of production quality leave in the comments (Aja by Steely Dan for example)
Same questions with Video quality.
I just got the 4K TV upgrade and it’s definitely noticeable but I don’t turn my nose up at lower resolutions. Prefer watching films in the cinema but that’s more so because I play less attention, though obviously watching a blockbuster on the big screen beats watching it on a plane etc.
DVD as a format has definitely shown it’s aged though, especially sound wise. Turn the volume almost to max than almost blow my ear drums out when I play a game or something.

While I don't subscribe to AV Weekly, once Blu-Ray came out, I never looked back. It was almost like this meme : The devil was initially in the detail, and I remember seeing Iron Man on both DVD and Blu-Ray, and noticing very quickly how crisp and clear the GUI was when Tony was moving it around in mid air on the Blu-Ray edition. And it was obviously elevated again with a decent TV. I've had a 4k Sony Bravia for what has felt like forever now, and I noticed a massive difference between it and my previous Samsung 1080p as expected, even watching the most boring, mundane sort of stuff. I once or twice had sound systems, to borrow a line from The Italian Job, with speakers so big they blow women's clothes off. Old Technics speakers and amps from the 80s and 90s - you know the ones, 4ft tall and 50cm wide and deep, weighing more than a full grown Labrador and subs the size of a car tyre. The original set up had all the manual equalisers and needles bouncing about, the second was digital and had two big ass tower speakers w/subs and 2 x sides and rears respectively. I've still got a full monster old school Technics set up in the spare room covered in junk and dust - Amp, Tuner, Cassette, Turn Table and two hernia inducing speakers. I replaced the older digital set up with just a basic Sony Sound Bar as I needed ACR with the PS4 and it didn't have it. I've since removed the Sound Bar, because I wanted the TV high on the wall away from kids and didn't want the sub on the floor and wires running all over the place - as it was a complete surround sound - or so they claim. Cars - the first car had a full Sony Xplod system but limited to speaker upgrades. The second, Clarion HU and speakers and Xplod Sub/Amp combo - I miss that one. The third, back to a full Xplod set up. And then after that I just opted for premium sound as everything is built in and usually OK, in most decent cars built in the last 20 years. Except my Subaru, what a piece of shit. So, when it came time to upgrade, I needed to sample the stereo and luckily the Audi has like 12 speakers in it and enough base to rival many an aftermarket system. I don't really care that much anymore, the TV Sound quality is decent as it is for what we require. But, yeah, I've dabbled.

I still have a 1080p TV. The set is about eight years old ... I will upgrade to 4K once the PS5 Pro comes out. That will basically be my excuse to replay Cyberpunk 2077; and when I love a game, I will take just about any fair reason to play through it again.
I'm not a videophile, however; I recently replayed FFX (PS2) on a 4:3 LCD, and it looked like absolute dogsh*t. I occasionally think about pulling the trigger on getting a small CRT, but never do. It's probably not worth the space ... Those sets are voluminous even when on the smaller side ...
I can probably hear the difference between streaming Bluetooth vs. Wi-Fi to my Teac amp. I'm saying "probably" because I haven't compared recently, and I don't care to remind myself, really. Ignorance is kind of bliss with this. Good enough sound quality is good enough. There are audiophiles who drive themselves batty with their set-up.

I get there and realise the photo they took was from a great distance. It works great but the thing is massive and could crush a small child, I need to great rid of it but understandably no one wants it so have to wait for bulk collection in the mail :lol.

I usually consider the 14"'s when I'm looking around. Every once in a while, there's a set with component, although a comb-filter and composite actually yields similar enough results on a good model. What size did you wind up picking up?

Video quality I really don't care. Within reason. I'm happy with 1080p or even 720p on occasion. Sometimes that's what you get when you watch wrestling streams online. Would I notice the difference with 4K? Probably. I'm not invested enough to get it though.
Audio, I care a bit more. I'm not full-on audiophile, I am content with mp3s or YouTube music, but I do have decent quality speakers and I do invest in good quality earphones/headphones. I have found the difference to be pretty noticeable.
For TV and film, I use the TV speakers. They are more than good enough. No desire for a soundbar or surround sound or whatever.

It's interesting System bought up the CRT TV. There's a lot of people buying up older tech, because really prior to the PS3/360 era, gaming was built for them. A lot of people enjoy watching movies as they watched them back in the day - a little grain, a little wear and tear. I often watch older movies and while they're upscaled and presented in wide screen and look amazing, I'd almost be more engaged if I were watching it on a monster CRT, especially the stuff from the 80s.

Shame...my PS2 is just collecting dust because I refuse to play it on anything other than a CRT. After the initial "oh fuck yeah! Nostalgia!" I got hit by reality and it's basically unplayable on my Roku.

I’ve decided to go back to CDs for the most part. I collected Vinyl when they were $40-50. Now they are $80-$100 the appeal is wearing off. I have a Bluetooth record player which I know defeats the analogue appeal but less cables to worry about & can listen with headphones. Probably finish my MF DOOM collection then leave it for rare occasions. Picked up Grace by Jeff Buckley & it sounds amazing. Working on getting all the Smashing Pumpkins albums on CD, seeing as AusPost somehow can’t find my house (that’s on the main highway) my work is getting spammed with CDS  rad I don’t wanna know how much the freight cost would be to ship that monstrosity to you

Discman with normal headphone Jack as well as Bluetooth headphone support and in built Bluetooth speaker so you can be a nuisance on public transport with CD quality. I was just sitting around thinking “I wonder if you could get a Bluetooth disc man” as if that would have any demand in 2024, turns out it does.

Earlier this year I set up my 25-year old Technics 60 disk changer for the first time in ages. The rubber drive belt was too old so I had to track one down online. You can only buy them in packs of two. A lot of soundtracks aren't available on streaming so CD is the only way to listen.

I have no idea what CRT is but I happily play old Playstation games on my modern TV. It requires an adapter to convert the analog output to HDMI, easy to set up. Yes the Playstation graphics don't scale up to the huge screens that well but the video quality has never been a concern for me. It's more than playable and I don't expect it to be close to the standards of modern gaming.
