Yes! Very interested in this game BUT the fact they only handed out PC review codes makes me very nervous about this game's performance on the PS5. Still have yet to preorder this game, really hoping some early playthroughs from other countries(Heard the Chinese gamers get this a day or so earlier?) sort of let me know if it's a buy day 1 or wait for a future patch down the road.
Really want a consistent 60 FPS for these type of Action based games, that's all I really need. I know it won't hang with top end PCs from a graphics & performance perspective but still really hope for something good for PS5 owners. Think Stellar Blade or Lies of P level for an AA action game publisher company.

Caved in yesterday, hoping this game isn't going to run poorly on the PS5.
20 minutes until showtime, until then.

Yeah 2 hours in, yeah this is NiOh 2.0. Excluding the difference stances and/or maybe weapon choices(Stuck with the same weapon by the looks of it), this feels like NiOh so much but with a jump button(Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty had this). Have a yokai mode, perfect dodges reward you with stamina refill(Ki refill if timed correctly in NiOh?), 4 minibosses/big bosses in, game is tough but not ridiculously tough.
Was really worried about the performance of the game, even on performance mode after the 1st boss to start the game as it ran god awful but maybe either that fight was visually too demanding or me going from no motion blur to partial motion blur did the trick, but the game is back to normal. Tried Chinese language and it's good but honestly, the English language is very good here so sticking with it. Wish you can make subtitles a bit larger which also somewhat factored into me swapping off Chinese dialogue.
So glad I bit on this one, let my instincts get the better of me. So far so good. Friggin love both NiOh's so if this is more to come, we cooking. This also had some cool Wukong monkey magic tricks too that have proven to be so useful.
Just need my boys the Kodama and some Revenants to go full blown NiOh but yeah game instantly reminds me of NiOh. Besides maybe level design which this 1st world thus far is very plain.

Saw the highest rated Twitch user who streamed this game had all of these hotwords in the title. IDK why they enforced this but I kind of get it that they didn't want white noise to be the consistent theme. Like I saw a few reviewers slam this game over allegations of misconduct of the company ages ago(I think the director of this game said some misogynistic views ages ago? What does that actually have to do with the game itself. I don't care about having to read paragraphs of that, make another article or something for that. As someone who was skimming through reviews to see the performance, game length, difficulty etc., I don't really care to see that. Game got a 6 from an outlet because Black Myth Wukong wasn't diversified enough or had enough woman characters. It's a game set in Ancient China about monkeys and all sorts of creatures, cmon. Same for when people knocked Stellar Blade earlier this year for how many skins the game had that show little skin for Eve/main character. "It's clear the creator of this game has never dated or hung out with a woman before" says IGN France, while not knowing.................his wife was one of the lead character designers of ShiftUp/Stellar Blade. I assume COVID-19 was sensitive as it was a way to incite phobias towards the Chinese(Trump calling it the "Wuhan flu" for instance, and some Chinese Americans were targeted as people to blame for COVID at it's height). Put in like 2 more hour late last night, was up until 2AM! Got a couple more bosses down, really like this game. Last boss I can see some slugginess, I think this game can totally use a Day 1 patch on consoles. I am on Performance mode and weak motion blur which is the way to go on my OLED(Seems like quite a bit of people are using this setting). Seeing FightinCowboy peg this as NiOh but with more action really makes me think we got something here as he's played with most if not all the SoulsBourne or knock off games. Total NiOh vibes with this one, I know you don't have a PS5 Big Pete but you'd like this one. 90% of the steam sales come from China. Dude the Chinese ain't messing around between this and the HoyoVerse. Massive hotbed. That's big time to break even Elden Ring on # amount of players on Steam at once, much less for a studio who only did mobile game work prior to this large jump up.

Typically anything that falls under Cowboy's purview is something that I'm interested in. I really need to check out his stream of this just to see the game in action. I doubt it'll be one of those games that makes me want to spend $1000 on a new gaming system I'll barely have time to play but stranger things have happened.
I'm enjoying your impressions Blindy, keep them coming. Hopefully they remain as strong through out - Nioh is one of those games that notoriously over-stays it's welcome.

I finished Chapter 1 earlier this morning, more of the same, had such a great time with that one. Chapter 2 a good chunk through it and man....... Game was running so smoothly for me on PS5 Performance mode and weak motion blur and everything..................until one boss in Chapter 2. Tiger Vanguard I don't know if it's the water effect or whatever but this was dipping well below 30 FPS, it was borderline slideshow shit and this is a boss that hits hard and you have to really hit your dodges on so not being able to forecast what it is that he's doing was frustrating, especially when it has tricks to vanish off screen and try and surprise you. Was stuck on this boss for a good half hour, mostly on how bad of a boss fight this was performance wise.

Should be automatically equipped since it's the 1st of it's kind you get. Think it's hold R2+ press R3(Pressing the left analog stick)? It should tell you on the bottom right next to the transformation Yokai you have equipped.
Really good item, helps with damage reduction. Useful and also stuns the enemy/boss momentarily.
Put this game on a Hiatus after Chapter 3 due to all the new releases, have to get back into this one. Was having a good time but it's been a good 2-3 weeks since I last played it. I was right before starting Chapter 4 and not in the middle of a chapter so it was the perfect way to segway to other games.

Finished up Chapter 1 today, I’m mostly liking the feel, but the immobilize random deciding not to work is leading to some frustrations. Otherwise, it’s pretty damn good, even though it’s actually Soulslite, I’ll lump it in and say it’s currently my 3rd favorite not From Soulslike, behind the Nioh franchise, and Lies of P.
Kind of feel like whatever they call the fury mode (R2+O) is a bit inconsistent, sometimes you’ll get a huge chunk of damage, otherwise you’ll go all out and barely knick them. In general it doesn’t feel very strong, weaker than normal attacks, but I’m guessing that changes as you upgrade.
I sort of wish the 3 staff styles felt more unique outside of just the special heavy attack, not really feeling a benefit to switching beyond those.
Boss fights are pretty great, and damn do they look good.
Still pretty early, have to see how it develops, might pass up Lies of P. Definitely not Nioh though, the sheer versatility in that combat may make that my favorite in the entire genre (even if From does world/enemy design better), only Elden Ring and Bloodborne are in that race.

Guess I should have figured that, as chapter 1 did similar for the Bear, ring all the bells and get the fire mantle boss fight. Just that one you stumble on just by naturally doing the level, unless you’re some weirdo who sees a giant bell and doesn’t go see if you can ring it.
So far that boss took me the longest, that tornado is bullshit, and the arena shrinking with him constantly jumping outside of the boundary even more so. I’d consistently get him down to the last few hits, then suddenly I couldn’t dodge all the attacks I was dodging all match or lay a finger on him. When he was inside the ring the tornado would always be up his ass, and when I lured him away from the tornado, he’d jump outside of the arena and spam ranged attacks.
The one that pissed me off the most, I got him down to the last hit, had a double focus and perched up in pillar stance, he took the bait, I came down right on his head…somehow did no damage then got locked into the tornado followed by his stupid cutscene attack (which I fell directly into thanks to the tornado).
Oh, and not being able to see a fucking thing when yhe arena shrinks makes it that much worse.

Video games are meant to be fun, right? Sounds like you guys aren't having much fun.
I'll never understand the appeal of these hyper-difficult boss rush games. Visually Elden Ring is incredible but it was a lot more like work than play. They are super popular so there must be something that's hooking people. Whatever it is doesn't work for me

Whatever it is doesn't work for me  Just different types of fun, there’s a lot of frustration, but pure exhilaration when things are firing on all cylinders. The most challenging games, I find, tend to have the best combat systems. Sure, I’d practically bet my death is going to be a blind rage heart attack on some game or another, but only easy games tends to get a bit borin, need to mix in some challenge. And it’s usually only select bosses that drive me up the wall, 4 out of 5 (or better) tend to not be an issue. Wind Sage was the chapter 2 final boss, and was one of the only real road blocks I hit. If it was every single encounter, every single time, or even just a majority…then I probably wouldn’t enjoy it. But it’s a nice sense of accomplishment when you finally take one of those bastards down.

Chapter 3 gets pretty messy to be honest RagnarokMike System. Near the beginning it gets to become like hell with how frustrating it is. It takes a mechanic from Dark Souls 3 and NiOh(IIRC) and not a good one. Still want to get back into this game.

FUCK the Yellow Wind Sage…that is alll. Windtamer is basically the music box to Father Gascoigne in Bloodborne, it stuns them and gives them a moment of "How is this happening?!" before they get back. His grab is pretty nasty, took me like 3-4 tries before getting him. He did cheese me by leaving the area of bounds and me being unable to hit him, there were invisible walls for one of my attempts which was pretty frustrating.

Whatever it is doesn't work for me Growing up on the SNES/Genesis, you get hardened to this. Soulsbournes and the like aren't too bad, especially in comparison to shit like older Castlevanias or Ninja Gaidens or Ghouls N Ghosts games. Even NES Mega Man can get frustrating in a sense. Hardest game I played in years was Ghosts N' Goblins Resurrection(Legend mode), I nearly picked it for the Halloween countdown actually. You can be in mid air after committing to make a jump to avoid a pitfall and a random bat will spawn in midair and knock you back levels of frustrating. GnG series was notorious for this. And then after beating the game you have to go back and beat it proper with a gimped weapon by the end and having to re-do everything....only in Ressurection they make B levels/different versions of the levels. I had to lower the difficulty like 1-2 times honestly to the 2nd toughest before resuming, but I ended up still beating the final stage on Legend mode. Unlike the rest of the series, I think there was no limit to the weapons you can use. But hitting a checkpoint was like a victory in itself, nevermind finishing the level.

Is this another Souls game or closer to GoW where it's tough at times but doesn't pride itself on being ultra difficult?

Is this another Souls game or closer to GoW where it's tough at times but doesn't pride itself on being ultra difficult? Soulslite, it is pretty difficult at times, but the only thing you lose for dying is time, no losing a half hour worth of experience points on a cheap death, you earn it, you keep it. All enemies (except special one time foes) respawn when you rest, but that’s about it. Only one mandatory boss, bitchass Wind Sage, has given me any notable trouble; a couple frustrating optional battles, mainly the blacksmith, but all in all, I’d put it mostly mid-tier difficulty for the genre (soulslike not just lite).

Does “Yellow” mean “absolute pain in the ass” in Chinese, Yellow Loong was another roadblock for me, yeah he was optional so I could have come back, but I came so close right at the start that I knew I could do it. But Jesus suffering fuck, when you get him to critical life his combos go one forever, one mistake means death, and the game is usually the one to make the mistake. Errant hitboxes are ever the trend in the genre, even Big Daddy From can’t keep them all in check.

When it comes to the boss fights, it’s a pretty great feeling when I manage to beat them/nice accomplishment so I’m happy with it. Some difficult games I don’t enjoy at all and admittedly gave up on them

Whew, welp, that's that, did everything possible in a single playthrough, every enemy, every chief, every king, every single boss. Really is great, I do feel the combat was a bit limited, after things like Nioh and Rise of the Ronin, basically a single combo feels a bit constrained. I feel like damage was really inconsistent, so many boss fights came down to just a hit left, and I couldn't get it off no matter what I tried, and I don't mean rushing in for the desperation final shot, even taking my time it was trouble; my brother saw it with the final Wukong fight, barely a visible sliver, I was dodging and striking and striking and dodging and it probably took me 20 swings to get that seemingly single hit necessary, I felt that was a trend amongst the hardest bosses, like it massively reduces your damage output on their last couple hits, which is really annoying when they have moves that can take 100% of a full lifebar with health as high as you can get it in a single playthrough.
The New West was definitely the worst level, just too big and sprawling and everything looked alike, was feeling like Cotten Eye Joe out there: "Where'd I come from? Where'd I go?" But, otherwise I think the levels were fairly solid, nice diversity amongst the scenery. Oh, another negative is spells only having specific slots, I’d like to have experimented more, but you had to forgo “immobilize for the two others I’d like to have used, which you could slot all spells at will. Other than the aforementioned damage inconsistency, the bosses were mostly great, only a couple duds, mainly amongst the Chiefs, but probably a few lackluster kings if I put some thought into it too. Beautifully designed though, absolute feast for the senses.
Top 5 hardest bosses were also the only real roadblocks I hit, most encounters I'd beat first try, most of those I didn't second or third, few outliers were usually less than a half dozen. As for those top 5 hardest bosses:
5. Yellow Wind Sage 4. Yin Tiger 3. Yellow Loong 2. The Great Sage’s Broken Shell 1. Erlang, the Sacred Divinity
Yellow Wind Sage might have missed out if I'd had that item, because my only real trouble was his final few hits, where he'd stay out of bounds or have the tornado constantly up his ass. But the other 4 were definitely my biggest roadblocks to victory.
Someday I'll have to do a NG+ for the platinum, got everything else. 8/10
