I believe it was NATH45 mentioning flipping stuff as a way to make money in the “I need a dollar” thread. Any do online selling on the regular? I’ve got back into selling on EBay and it’s been a headache. Keep holding my funds despite having my account since 2009 and a decent selling history. So hoping that clears up soon as marketplace has been mostly a bust. I get it in countries where it’s more common not to have a bank account but it infuriates me the amount of people that insist on paying their bills in person nowadays. My parents talked about when I was a kid and seemed like a huge hassle, I’ve never paid a bill in person in my life. Anyway, made a great sale or found a great bargain lately? My mate found a heap of Pink Floyd LPs in the trash at his university, he scabbed them out of the bin, tested them and they worked. Got about $350 for them IIRC

Yeah, it might have been me mentioning a mate who sells car parts online after stripping the bodies. It's worked out very well for him.
I stumbled upon a little Facebook Marketplace scam. A guy was telling me, he'll go through some retailer's websites for specials. Say, you can buy a speaker for $25 at JB. He'll advertise that same speaker on Marketplace for $50. Eventually he'll find a buyer, and that's when he goes into the store, buys the speaker for $25 and then delivers it to the buyer collecting his $50.
No inventory, no overheads. Just time needed.

Speaking of scams, someone was selling a PS5 with accessories and a few games (Gran Turismo 7 was one) for $250 AUD. First world problems I was considering getting a second ps5 so CoD doesn’t hog my hard drive. Great deal, even said they could send video of it working etc. Anyway, sandylea got on the case. They had it listed in Newcastle and Melbourne. Messaged the seller to sus them out and as soon as they proposed a meet up time, a PS5 gets listed on marketplace with the exact same picture and background (not a stock photo). So just left that alone. Idk what the scam is supposed to be, either jump the person at 10am  (proposed time) or selling a stolen console that will be bricked anyway.

I merchandise cards at one of my jobs (Pokemon, Topps, Magic, Lorcana, etc.). There are people who participate in Discords to alert other shoppers when a new release hits the shelves at a store ... some of them are collectors, others are flippers. Mark of a flipper, to me, is someone who just f*cking empties out the shelves of a certain SKU. Personally, I don't care; the only person I have anything against in the store is the shoplifter. A paying customer is a paying customer.
Personally, I find flipping to be too time consuming. I'm not interested in making eBay listings, printing labels, and making trips to the Post Office. I used to sell video games on eBay, and other miscellany like my old college textbooks, back in the day ... and I'm pretty much tapped on that.

Likely taking your deposit or asking for full payment via PayPal and breaking contact instantly. I used to scroll through Facebook and see the same pictures 8 or 9 times with different locations. Image quality in this day and age is a dead give away, blurry or pixelated and I'd keep scrolling past, it's usually an Indian or Arabic sounding name, and when you hit their profile, it looks like it wa made yesterday. -- If you've got the time, study the local Buy & Sell groups, as a lot of people sell off video games, records, CDs, DVDs, etc very cheap, just to clean out their storage. Sit on them for a few weeks and put them back up for a profit.

We're trying to sell a bunch of brand new or gently used stuff we have pilling up in our garage on Marketplace. Used to be fairly simple now everyone wants to low ball and then there's all the scammers. Can't even trust people to do an EFT anymore.

In the mid 2000s I tried ebay to offload wrestling dvds I was never gonna re-watch. Felt like such a hassle with fees and dealing with PayPal or fighting them supposedly not arriving. Found a site to sell all my dvds in a single transaction and have been digital ever since.
Either I'm an idiot or it must've changed in 20 yrs because no way was a few bones worth the headache.

I see people, including my friends putting stuff up on Marketplace for sale, for $5 or $10. Sure, it can go to someone who may not be able to afford that little luxury normally, especially with a lot of kids stuff being stupidly expensive new at times. But, if I'm only asking $5... throwing it in the trash to safe the screwing around is the easiest option.
I used to use it to clean out my shed. Broken motorbike I have no intention to fix - free. Wheels from a car I no longer own - free. Old split system inverter - free. Why, because taking it to the dump takes time, effort and usually costs more than these things are worth.

If something has plenty of life left in it I'll donate it to a thrift store. It doesn't happen often, but for a high-value item I'll put it on Marketplace. I sold four snow tires for a car I no longer have for $150.

I sell things on eBay and Marketplace quite a bit. Have probably sold a couple hundred items over the last ~7 years. I love it.

Our community has a "buy nothing" Facebook page where people can list surplus items you don't need anymore. My wife lists heaps of stuff on there and it all gets taken, for us it's not worth the hassle of no shows and weirdos coming to your for $15

Back in my simp wrestling fan days I spent way too much on an auction for a piece of signed merch. For a long time I forgot I had it, but then relisted it after finding it during some spring cleaning, and ended up getting over double what I originally paid for it!

My wife lists heaps of stuff on there and it all gets taken, for us it's not worth the hassle of no shows and weirdos coming to your for $15 I love my local buy nothing group. I've given away a ton and have received some great things. I gave away a 4 drawer filing cabinet as my wife has promised never to have her own law practice again. A nice couple showed up for it, very newly immigrated Chinese with poor English. I helped them load it into their car and then they tried to give me four litres of milk and a giant container of cherry tomatoes. I tried explaining that it was for free and I didn't want anything. The woman ran into my garage, dropped off the milk and tomatoes and ran back into the car and drove away  I'm lactose intolerant and my kids refuse to drink milk. My garden is currently exploring with tomatoes. I wanted to put that food right back on the buy nothing page but thought that was in poor taste. Gave the milk toy neighbours. Roasted the tomatoes. I used to buy on eBay in the early 2000-2003 or so but got priced out of items for shipping costs. Never sold on eBay. Sold some comics a lifetime ago on marketplace and that was pretty easy. Otherwise I've bought a few Halloween costumes, so dealing with busy mothers of young children has been generally hassle-free.

Used to buy lots of my statues on ebay. I tried to sell some on there, but it was just scam after scam so I gave up.
Love the Buy Nothing Groups. We also just post on our local community or homeowners page with a bunch of stuff we have at the end of our driveway. Lots of tomatoes, chives, mint and garlic and onions to give away as well as plant pots etc.
