It's not a hobby I can currently afford at the moment, but something that I really want to get into once I can. I've been watching Youtube narrations and it's making me feel the urge to get into it.
A little bit of background:
Standard comics: ·I'm pretty much just a casual who knows some lore. I have an affinity for Batman/X-Men and lean towards Marvel characters. I know of and have read some of the heavy hitters like "Dark Knight Returns" and "The Killing Joke", much less so for the latter.
Graphic novels: ·Read the first 100 issues of "Walking Dead" and some of "Preacher". Loved both but I never got around to finishing them/keeping up. I'm big on dystopic/horror/sci-fi/fantasy themes. Of any classification, I lean most heavily towards this one.
Manga: ·Mostly just "Dragonball" and "Pokemon" when I was a kid/teenager. I'm not huge into anime but I have my favorites in IP's like Cowboy Bebop, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Bleach, Samurai Champloo, etc. Any credence to the original would be appreciated but I'd be more interested in material that hasn't been ported over but is still translated (like "Red", which I really want to read).
Or just feel free to ignore all of that and list your favorite series/sagas here. I trust your guys' (+gal) opinions.

Locke and Key is always my go to recommendation for comics, 6 volumes for one of the most perfectly told stories I’ve ever read. Sets up things in one volume that pays off volumes later, not a dangling plot thread by the end of it. There’s also some added content that lies outside of those 6 volumes, but, while great, aren’t necessary to the main narrative.
East of West, American Vampire, and Deadly Class are all completed series I highly recommend as well.
And for Batman, Long Halloween and its sequel Dark Victory are great reads, a final installment just started, can’t say if it lives up to those two (RIP Tim Sale). Joker is another great one, which follows one of Joker’s henchmen and escorting him around town on business.

rad!! Once upon a time I used to randomly tag PW posters to try to lure them into our Comic thread and then recommend them some comics. Did I never tag you back in the day? Seems like a missed opportunity! DIE vol 1-4 - by Gillen and Hans. Complete series. Basic premise is that in the 90s six teenagers got pulled into a Dungeon & Dragons like fantasy world, where all sorts of stuff happened, and they returned home. Mostly. One stayed behind. Then, they get pulled back into the fantasy world like 30 years later. Tons of fun! Seven to Eternity vol 1-4. By Remender and Opena. Complete series. Fantasy heavy world where if you pledge yourself to a certain "God", your life will be easier, but at what cost? Freedom and Fear are just a few of the motifs explored, all centered around family and legacy. Planetary vol 1-4. By Ellis and Cassaday. One of the greatest books ever, it's been ages since I've read it. I'll need to change that. Basically a group is in charge and investigates the secret history of Earth. So many great stories and plots and is wrapped up. Some superhero work in the background with some powers, but more of a conspiracy type story. Eight Billion Genies. By Soule and Browne. Everybody on Earth gets a personal genie and is granted one wish each. You can imagine the absolute insanity that occurs afterwards. One book tells the full story, and it's great.

I really enjoyed V for Vendetta and Watchmen, cliche picks but they are one off purchase.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is great also.
