It's a "Fuck it, lets show the world we are back" sort of mentality to try and punch it in for 1 yard. Analytics probably back it up but 2 scores vs 3 scores in the 4th is a big difference. Pats get 1 big play for a TD and it's a 1 score game again.

If you have to have a 2 point conversion in order to tie a game, it’s helpful to have the information of if you will successfully convert earlier rather than later. There’s no victory in keeping it a one score game if it’s not going to be one in the end because you don’t convert a 2 point conversion in the end.

Really good play by Pitre who runs hot and cold but that was a huge play there

I am also someone who would take the FG over TD if you're down 10 late in a game and go for an onside kick if you have 0 timeouts so maybe I am not in that aggressive mindset. Get points however you can and put the emphasis on the tougher stuff when you have no choice.
