I haven't been to the theater in a long time, the first Joker (w/ optional awkward security guard lobby chaperone) was probably the last time. When Max put a year's worth of blockbusters on the platform due to covid, I think that really killed the concept of going in person. I just grew a wait for streaming mindset. Add them to the list and get to them eventually. Used to go regularly like System and honestly loved the tailored experience. Yeah spending out the ass for concessions sucked, but what if I really loved the pretzel and popcorn? It was a decent treat since I was going alone and not with a family. I'm not sure if I can ever go back to doing it, I might not even have the attention span for a movie start to finish. My focus is so all over the place it takes me 2-3 days to watch a movie. Generic movie going experience thread. When's the last time you went and have you been priced out/everything sucks or what?
Yo Fergus is Australia like the US with trailers/previews? You see a movie every week no doubt you get the same trailers over and over again. Did anything grow on you after a while and you eventually watch them?

I have wed/thurs evenings off work, Thursdays intentionally so it can line up with new movie releases as they come out on Thursday here, advance screenings on Wednesday.
The pricing isn’t my main concern as I don’t have many other vices but the people Talking/texting is. Tell the staff which is mostly teenagers who don’t want to deal with the confrontation or tell the people myself and staff get annoyed at you for not telling them. Considering some films are on streaming 3 weeks after theatrical release, the temptation to stop going is pretty high.
Not many films I haven’t played on seeing that a trailer convinced me, rather go in blind as a lot of trailers spoil a lot but hard to avoid when you go every week. This ad always play before the main cinema I go to so it’s become a running joke:
