Local media are reporting today that the rumour of WWE holding a show at the MCG in Melbourne is now a done deal, with a PPV tentatively scheduled for October.
Filling 100,000 seats seems like a big stretch to me though. For context, WWE's show in 2002 at our second biggest stadium drew 55,000 but had a main of Rock vs HHH vs Brock (and Hulk Hogan advertised) while UFC pulled a similar amount at the same arena for Rousey vs Holm. Ronda will obviously be a big part of the advertising again, but they'll have to put together a big card to draw enough people from interstate and other southern hemisphere countries to even come close to not run a half empty stadium.

Is it gonna be a Australia only event, just like the UK had Insurrexion? Or will this be an official worldwide WWE event, like SummerSlam '92 in London?

Well, I'll be.
I find it extraordinary they didn't try and capitilise on the Australian market sooner, especially after the success of the Global Warning Tour. Hopefully they put all their eggs into this basket and don't try to sell the fans on a B-show. As great as Melbourne is at attracting crowds, they'll turn their nose up on it unless there's a reason to be there.

I'll be there.
I think the key will be to over sell the event. Brock, Rock, Cena, Orton, Styles, Nakamura, etc. As ambitious as the MCG is, you'll need an all-star show to fill it. This has got to be a Wrestlemania level event.

Haven't admired their optimism quite as much since they thought about running 205 Live house shows.

NJPW toured with varying results, completely flopping in Adelaide.
I don’t see this being a success if they expect a crowd of that nature. They stopped coming here twice a year (down to one) and cut out the smaller cities like Newcastle. Like it was pointed out earlier in the thread, they didn’t capitalise on it earlier.
I think it’s to do with the transport costs and travel time, as I can’t blame the wrestlers that seem to hate travelling here. Getting off the long LA-SYD flight to be instantly harassed by fans, wrestle almost every night then fly back after doesn’t sound fun, I don’t know what names they could use to draw, Brock definitely won’t make the trip..and there’s no one in WWE full time that’s a huge draw.

I don’t know what names they could use to draw Booking the Ferg Burger on the undercard should put some butts in seats!

I don't know how they expect to sellout the bloody MCG without an absolutely stacked card. If it looks decent enough though I can definitely see myself making the trip to Melbourne.

I think it's achievable. With the right card, it's not nearly as ambitious as Bullet Club's 10,000 seats.

They're really going to have to treat it like a Wrestlemania. The Global Warning Tour was an impressive turn-out for the WWE, but there were a lot of factors at play. They advertised superstars like Rock, Hogan and hadn't been to Australia in decades. Not only were they attracting fans from Melbourne, but they were attracting fans from around the country. Furthermore, it happened at Etihard Stadium, which is a decent sized stadium, but isn't the mecca like the MCG.
For our foreign fans, the MCG is THE stadium in Australia. It hosts the biggest sporting events in the country (the boxing day test, AFL Grand Final, the odd State of Origin game) and consistently draws more crowds than any other stadium in Australia. If they want to sell this stadium out, they'll have to put on a Wrestlemania type show with all the bells and whistles. They'll have to pull out all the stops and bring legends in, they'll have to hold a TLC or a Hell in a Cell style match (first time ever in Australia!) and build the show up ad nauseum on TV. It can't just be this cute little thing on the side like the Global Warning Tour, otherwise I'd be surprised if they'd attract more than 30 000 fans.
But at least they chose the right state to host it in. Had it been Sydney, they would have been lucky to get 10 000 fans to ANZ.

I know prices in AUS are higher than the US and maybe I'm just ignorant to how much ticket prices even are in my own country... but is 2k for ringside insane or is that the norm?!?

Those ringside tickets are (rounded to dollar) $1460 USD. People in comments aren’t happy, some saying American PPV’s and even Wrestlemania is cheaper? Can anyone confirm? I’ve only ever been to the WWE house shows here so I wouldn’t know.

Tickets booked. I opted to sit in the stands, after playing around with the idea of being ringside / on the floor. Pre-Sale tickets were moving fast, with some areas down to single seat purchases only within 20 minutes.
I've been ringside for NXT Melbourne and on the ramp for a WWE Melbourne show a few years back. Either way, I hope this show pops 100,000 people, should be great.

Australia hosted my sixth favorite triple threat ever: Rock vs. Brock vs. HHH!
I would lose my shit if they ran a current day rematch of that.

Buddy Murphy vs Cedric Alexander for the Cruiserweight Championship has been announced. You'd think this would be a slam dunk pick for a title change but who knows considering WWE's love of having people lose in their hometowns. Australia hosted my sixth favorite triple threat ever: Rock vs. Brock vs. HHH! I would lose my shit if they ran a current day rematch of that. If my memory serves Brock wasn't going to be in the match originally but was added when Hogan pulled out of the tour. Everyone was furious that he bailed last minute but as a young fan that didn't care about the Hulkster I was stoked that we got a really cool match out of it.

Except it's being down infront of over 70,000 fans. So I wouldn't be surprised if Buddy does win. It'll be like when Naomi won the SD Women's Title at WrestleMania in her hometown.

I would think B.Murph is out here a week or so early doing heavy media work, I would suggest a lot of casual fans wouldn't know who he is.

If anyone wants to have a quick meet up before/after show let me know.
The amount of fans complaining about the card having no title matches etc is astounding, it was clear from the start it’s just a glorified house show like Roadblock and Beast in the East were
