Darnold's a Jet, not a Brown. Corrected. As I said, not much better. As far as the Giants go I'm excited about Barkley, but at the same time Eli is getting very long in the tooth, he's got one or two years left at tops. The Giants need to start looking at replacing him.
I think Barkley can help Eli a lot with his ability in the passing game. Much like Kimara did for Brees last year - sucks because I wanted Barkley to go somewhere where I could have fun rooting for him. Not the Giants. Ew.

Overall I'm okay with what the Packers did , still bummed we had a few shots at James and passed on him but I think we had Alexander higher on our board and found a way to add an extra first rounder and still get him. That's some pretty good manuevering by Gutenkunst. Essentially when it was all said and done the Packers traded a third and 5th round pick for a first next year while still getting the guy they wanted all along - awesome shit.
I don't know what the fuck the Saints were doing , sorry @theshow - granted I'm not a Davenport fan either but I don't get giving up that much if you aren't taking a quarterback for the future. If the Saints falter at all this season , if Brees hits the "Manning wall" and they fall off the Saints future is in trouble because not only do they lack a young prospect on the roster to groom - they no longer have a first round pick to pick another quarterback. Obviously now I have to root against the Saints , so sorry again @theshow - business is business and I hope it's a top ten pick.
Other than that I liked what the Browns did , I think the Jets got exactly what they wanted. Chubb falling to Denver is scary and San Diego got a great piece for Bradleys secondary.
I don't like what the Cowboys did at all , how they don't take either of their top two receivers there is baffling. I think the Seahawks made a really fucking weird pick and can't believe Guice is still on the board. And I don't love the Patriots draft either - even though I'm a huge Michel fan.

The sheer stupidity of the Saints move last night still has me shocked. You don't make that aggressive of a move not to take a QB in that situation.
If the Saints are in win now mode then moving up in the first round and trading a future first round pick for a developmental project who won't contribute next year is a mind-boggling decision.

33. Cleveland Browns - Derrius Guice , RB , LSU - They didn't get Barkley but I think Guice is the second best back in the draft. Also wouldn't be surprised if a team trades up here for a number of prospects.
34. New York Giants - Will Hernandez , OG , UTEP - They picked their franchise back in the first round , it would be wise to build up that line with the best run blocker in the draft.
35. Cleveland Browns - Jessie Bates , S , Wake Forest - They still need a tackle to replace Thomas , but I don't love at of the tackles left. They also need a ton of secondary help.
36. Indianapolis Colts - Harold Landry , Edge , Boston College - They just missed on Chubb falling to them in the first round , but pick the best pure pass rusher left on the board in Landry.
37. Indianapolis Colts - Josh Jackson , DB , Iowa - Jackson is a versatile playmaker who can line up in a number of spots in the secondary.
38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Carlton Davis , CB , Auburn - Tampa passed on upgrading their secondary twice in the first round , I don't think they can do it again in the second and Davis is a huge upside play.
39. Chicago Bears - Conor Williams , OG , Texas - The Bears continue to build around their quarterback this offseason and they could use a few upgrades on the line.
40. Denver Broncos - Mason Rudolph , QB , Oklahoma State - I wouldn't be surprised if someone trades up to take Rudolph before this , but if he falls to the Bronco's in the second round I don't see how they pass on him.
41. Oakland Raiders - Donte Jackson , CB , LSU - Jackson is a superb athlete that we've seen taking plenty of times in the past by the Raiders , who are in desperate need of secondary pieces.
42. Miami Dolphins - Mike Gesicki , TE , Penn State - Gase loves an offense that can feature the tight end and Gesicki is an incredible athlete and matchup problem much like Thomas as back in Denver.
43. New England Patriots - Lorenzo Carter , Edge , Georgia - The Patriots defense is slow and needs playmakers at every level , Carter is a versatile athlete that Belichek would love to employ on his defense.
44. Washington Redskins - Harrison Smith , DT , Stanford - The Redskins needs to get stouter up front and Smith will fit nicely along their rebuilding front seven.
45. Green Bay Packers - James Daniels , OC , Iowa - Not a flashy pick but the Packers need some offensive linemen and Daniels should be an instant starter at center of guard. Also wouldn't be shocked to see the Packers trade back to try and recoup their second round pick , or trade up and try and snag Carter.
46. Cincinatti Bengals - Cortland Sutton , WR , SMU - The Bengals took a receiver early last year , but he was a small bodied burner. Sutton is a big body who will compete for catches and help a ton in the redzone. Also great value here.
47. Arizona Cardinals - Dallas Goedert , TE , SDSU - Another value drop here and the Cardinals add a nice playmaker and pass catcher to groom with their QB of the future.
48. San Diego Chargers - Nathan Shepard , DT , Fort Hays St. - Incredibly raw player with huge upside. The Chargers need to get bigger down the middle and he will provide that while learning on the job.
49. Indianapolis Colts - Ronald Jones , RB , USC - A shifty and explosive playmaker out the backfield who will provide Luck with more options.
50. Dallas Cowboys - DJ Chark , WR , LSU - A raw prospect but someone with great straight line speed and can take the top off of defense. After passing on one in the first I think the Cowboys take a swing at a few receiver prospects.
51. Detroit Lions - Sam Hubbard , DE , Ohio State - Ziggy is playing on the franchise tag and they don't have a lot of depth on their line. Hubbard should be a great rotational player for years to come.
52. Philadelphia Eagles - Ronnie Harrison , S , Alabama - The Eagles have few needs and can mostly go BPA , Harrison will provide them with some good secondary depth and potential starter down the road.
53. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Justin Reid , S , Stanford - The Bucs spend another pick on their secondary after passing on it in the first round. Reid has the ability to be a day one starter.
54. Kansas City Chiefs - Isaiah Oliver , CB , Colorado - They shipped Peters out in the offseason and now are in need of secondary help and Oliver is the best cornerback left on the board.
55. Tennessee Titans - Maurice Hurst , DT , Michigan - The Titans are going to continue to try and get tougher up the middle and Hurst can play a few different techniques for their defense.
56. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Nick Chubb , RB , Georgia - The Buccaneers wait until the end of the second round to grab their running back and Chubb makes it to them anyways. He should compete to be the starter day one.
57. Atlanta Falcons - Ian Thomas , TE , Indiana - The Falcons continue to add to their passing game in Thomas , who is fairly raw but has monster upside and could be one of the best in the league if he develops.
58. San Francisco 49ers - Kemoko Turay , Edge , Rutgers - Explosive pass rusher that will provide some spark to a front seven that really needs it.
59. Pittsburgh Steelers - Christian Kirk , WR , Texas A&M - I would be surprised if Kirk falls this far , but anything can happen and he provides a great slot option for Ben and the Steelers who just traded Martavis Bryant away.
60. Jacksonville Jaguars - Orlando Brown , OT , Oklahoma - Brown is a boom or bust type but if he hits he will be a huge get for the Jaguars who need to continue to build their offensive line.
61. Minnesota Vikings - Kerryon Johnson , RB , Auburn - The Vikings have the luxury of having one of the most well rounded rosters in the league and they can take who they want and depth. Cook is coming off a torn ACL and they lost the shifty McKinnon who Johnson will help replace.
62. New England Patriots - Mike White , QB , W. Kentucky - A super talented passer who will benefit greatly sitting behind Brady in New England learning from great coaching. The best upside of any of these second tier quarterback prospects.
63. Cleveland Browns - Austenn Corbett , OG , Nevada - Super intelligent day one starter who draws comparisons to current Brown , Greco.

I was texting back and forth with my Saints fan buddy and he didn't hate the move , but I worried him a bit with worst case scenario or even a plausible one in the crazy NFL where teams bounce up and down constantly. What happens if Brees gets hurt , or just declines to the point that Manning did. Kimara is still okay but not the same revelation and slumps a bit like some second year backs and the defense plateaus. The Saints have the upside of going 13-3 but if a few bad breaks they could be 5-11 and picking in the top ten with no pick and no future plan at QB.

News is going around that Jason Whitten is gonna retire, and join the Monday Night Football crew.
So what do the Cowboys do here? Draft his replacement, or sign a veteran?

Overall I liked what the Packers did last night , mainly the Josh Jackson part. Continue to rebuild this awful secondary with young instinctive playmakers who should be able to contribute right away. If King takes the next step this year and pairs with these two young guys I really like our future in the secondary.
I liked that we traded back into the third , didn't LOVE that we took a coverage dime linebacker but he has some upside. I would have rather looked at a receiver - I really liked Gallup but the Cowboys snagged him.

The Eagles drafted one of the more intriguing late round prospects I've ever seen.
This kid is MASSIVE and extremely athletic. All the raw ability is there, only question will be if the Eagles coaching staff can train him up. They might want to consider playing him on defense though. And definitely use him as a TE in goal line situations.

Jarryd Hayne from the Parramatta Eels came over and played for the 49ers as a RB in 2015/16. Didn't last long but given his experience the way he was able to make it through practice was nothing short of remarkable.
The only other player that comes to mind is Manfred Moore in the 70s who also played for the 49ers as a RB.
Usually Australians are Kickers because they're drafted from the AFL, which is a game based around kicking the ball through posts. Rugby players are going to offer something different and will usually be in roles that involve a lot of physical contact.
I don't recall Mailata having that much of a wrap on him, even in the now defunct National Youth Competition. He's obviously put on some size since his NYC days, but I don't think he had the right body shape for Rugby League. For a front row forward, you want to be built low to the ground, have good foot-work and good leg-drive. While he can get away with those efforts in that competition, if he played Intrust Super Cup or NRL he'd be found out pretty quick.
Outside of Rugby, there was Jesse Williams who was picked up by Seattle but didn't have a whole lot of luck with injury.

More on Mailata.
He only played half a season (12 games) for the South Sydney Rabbitohs Under 20s side and was primarily used as an interchange forward. His role in the team was to come on for short spells and do little else but take hit-ups. He really turned heads later in the season where he ran for 192m, scored 2 tries, made 10 tackle-breaks and 3 line-breaks against the hapless New Zealand Warriors outfit. He backed it up a week later against a struggling Melbourne Storm outfit where he ran for 165m, scored a try, made 3 line-breaks and recorded 14 tackle-breaks. To give those numbers some context, 100m is usually considered a pass mark and anything else is a bonus. Tries and line-breaks are rare for forwards and tackle-breaks usually denotes them winning the ruck which is the most important job of a prop forward in the game.
Again, I think he's better suited to the NFL than Rugby League in that he only has one job to do. In Rugby League you have to be a runner, you have to be a playmaker, you have to be a ball-distributor, you have to be a defensive specialist and if things get desperate a kicker. In a more organised sport like the NFL, he can focus more on his strengths. It's going to take some time for him to learn what's required of the position and how to play certain defensive sides, but I'll be keeping a close eye.

Very pleased with what the Giants ended up with. Obviously we'll wait and see how they all panned out but to pick 6 guys who were all in Mayock's top 100 is as promising as it can get. A clear change in position philosophy to pick an RB, OG and LB in the first three rounds - linebacker in particular a position that we have been frustrated by Jerry Reese's lack of emphasis for years now.
I'm also intrigued by Kyle Lauletta (who has a touch of Jimmy Garoppolo about him) and will be able to put some pressure on Davis Webb.
Now we just have to wait 20 weeks!
