Wow for a company that so desperately wants to be more mainstream, they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot in ways that are so avoidable. All they had to do was name the match for some other past well known female talent . Alunda Blayze , Bull Nakano, Luna Vachaon, even Chyna would probably have worked.
Moolah by most accounts was a disugisting person. This was a very bad decision from the WWE. I'm guessing they're expecting the more mainstream fans/media not to care enough to check out Moolah's sordid history.

Those names are more deserving of a memorial battle royal. And many more not named, too.
Personally, I would've went with Sherri Martel.

I'm guessing they're expecting the more mainstream fans/media not to care enough to check out Moolah's sordid history. I'm hoping at the very least someone like David Bixenspan writes an article for Deadspin so that a few more people become aware of what she did - because that's really the only way we'll ever see the WWE forced to change their rather disgusting whitewashing of Moolah's history and portrayal of her as a virtuous pioneer. Chyna might have done porn but she did infinitely more to break barriers and change the way women in the industry could be viewed than Moolah, who basically did the complete opposite. They also had Indira Gandhi as their female history month feature tonight - I mean what the fuck?

He (Bixenspan) made a great point on twitter, that what makes this worse is that it seemed like WWE had decided to start referencing Moolah less and less, choosing Mae Young for the name of the tourney, and holding her as the trailblazer for women's wrestling, but now they're back to Moolah. It seems like this is just Vince's absurd level of loyalty to certain people ( see Kevin Dunn) coming into play.

Yep, you can see that it's coming from the top judging by all of the cringy tweets they've had the current women send out today about Moolah. Mae Young wasn't exactly a saint herself but is infinitely preferential to Moolah.

I really hope this leads to a bunch of news outlets reporting on it via social media backlash. It's insane in the era of #metoo that they would continue to promote her and even have the girls (lol) do it on their accounts as well. Always found it weird that some people can justifiably be blacklisted and erased, but other pieces of garbage keep popping back up like herpes.

This needs to go out to the mainstream.
Moolah was pimping out the women for sex, forced them to do drugs, fucked them of proper pay, screwed/manipulated/sabotaged many of their careers, and even brought down both women's divisions (singles & tag team) out of pure jealousy.
This HAS to go out there.

I didn't know about Moolah's history. This is disgusting. WWE is being deliberately obtuse.

I’m baffled at how oblivious WWE is. They try so hard to stay on trend with social issues but remain royally hypocritical and straight up ignorant. I really hope this gets a lot of traction and for someone outspoken like Gail Kim or even AJ Lee with her one million followers to speak out against it.

Looks like they've changed the name. Odds are at the request of the sponsors. Only way to make change is to threaten the wallet.

Thank goodness. Is it too late to put Sherri Martel's name in it? It'd be fitting, since she is from New Orleans.

Hopefully WWE has learned to not underestimate their fans after this. Ignoring our complaints this time made us go over their head. Bet they didn't think we had that in us. Fans began contacting Snickers within the last 2 days and here we are. Maybe WWE realizing how much power their fans actually have will prevent fututre stupidity.

I got behind on the WWE a little is this the female version of Andre memorial battle royal for all the women that have nothing else to do at Wrestlemania? If so wasn't it the same thing before they started giving women a chance in WWE. Throwing them all in some battle royal at WM.

Thanks, I knew about Smackdown's WM match. Don't know Raw's match yet. I heard people mention Alexa maybe fighting Nia so guessing it is that. Really wish the battle royals weren't going to be at WM. It is nice they are trying to fit everyone at mania but the match just seems so pointless.

X-zero , the battle royal is pointless. WWE is so silly. I'm still hoping Raws match turns into a fatal fourway

Easy way to up the ante on the battle royal would be to give a title match to the winner. Make it brand specific (including NXT) as a way of slight differential to the Royal Rumble.

Would be nice if the match mattered instead of just being a way to get everyone on the show.

To be honest, it's going to be on the pre-show. It's a bit of fun to have on in the background while you're sorting your snacks out just like the men's one is. Now that they've fixed the name I'm ok with it as it is. The show is long enough, we need some meaningless filler that lets people get a payday.

Jericho said on his podcast that he texted Vince suggesting he should rename the Women's Battle Royal "The Sensational Invitational and name it after Sherri Martel. Vince's response was "Thx"

I don’t get the mentality of fans that were so upset by this that they called WWE sponsors, as they are the same fans that want Benoit in the Hall of Fame.
