Ever since the dust began to settle on the “Super Fight” of all super fights between Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor, fans of the combat sports world have been asking “what’s next?” for the two.
While the 50-0 boxing icon insists he has retired from the game for good, rumors have been swirling for months now that he may step into the octagon for the very first time to continue his big-budget rivalry with McGregor, the current reigning UFC Lightweight Champion. Back in January Mayweather posted a video of himself inside an MMA ring simply stating, “what are the odds?”
TMZ caught up with the undefeated champ this weekend who revealed that his camp had plans to apply for an MMA license with the intention to fight. “Money” originally estimated that he would need a three month camp to prepare for his leap into the MMA world, but wants to make sure the whole process is handled correctly, “even if it takes 6-8 months”
Mayweather has stated previously that he will be training directly with UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley. Woodley, 35, hasn’t fought since July 2017 when he tore his shoulder during a title defense against Demian Maia, a bout he won via unanimous decision. He’s an incredibly defensive fighter which may make him a good trainer for Floyd, arguably the greatest defensive boxer in the history of his sport, but only time will tell on that one.
I just want to see someone punch his face in. I want him humbled a little bit.
