🤯 nice, glad you gave Scream a watch. I watch the four movies (soon to be five), every year around Halloween. The fifth one will be intriguing, just because Wes Craven won't be directing it, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it's handled.

Speaking of Michael Myers, the fiancee and I ended up watching both Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) last night (as we decided to watch them prior to seeing Halloween Kills). Watching the first movie was a chore (or as the fiancee put it, boring AF), thankfully the sequel was better. The only Halloween movies, I've seen prior to this, were Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection, as for the fiancee she hasn't seen a single Halloween movie before last night. Question though, is Halloween III: Season of the Witch worth watching? It's my understanding that Michael Myers isn't in it, how much does it tie into the other movies? Season of the Witch does not tie in at all. They wanted to do a yearly anthology movie with the name Halloween but was scrapped after Halloween 3 bombed hard.

Watched Halloween Kills last night. It was ok. I didn’t really care for the focus on the townsfolk, so it was mostly just fun gore and not much more.
I’ve not watched Halloween II but have never heard much good about it, and Rob Zombies second Halloween movie is a train wreck, so as second movies go this one didn’t have much to live up to.

Yeah, we ended up skipping Season of the Witch, stayed up until almost 2 am last night/this morning (I'm way to old for that shit), watching Halloween 4, 5, and 6, after the kids went to bed. I enjoyed both Return and Revenge of Michael Myers, Curse Of Michael Myers was alright, although the best part of that one was seeing Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) in it. We're finally up to both Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Halloween: Resurrection, the only two Halloween movies I've seen prior to this watch through of Michael Myers films. I'm actually looking forward to giving these ones a re-watch, as I remember them being entertaining enough, I guess we'll see if that's still true or not. We've got five more movies to watch and then the fiancee and I, will be able to go see Halloween Kills in theaters at the end of the month.

Honestly other than ocd purposes you didn't need to watch everything as Halloween 2018 was basically retconned to be a sequel to the original and maybe part II since it's basically the 2nd half of the original movie.

Eh, may as well watch them all. It's something I always meant to do but never got around to it.

Rewatched There Will Be Blood. Such a great movie. Daniel Day Lewis was so damn good and deserved every single award he won for it. Really need to read Sinclair's Oil! one day. The movie starts to weaken as it breaks from the book (oil well blowout) so curious where the novel ends up going.
Also cannot wait to see Paul Dano play Riddler as he was so good as Eli.

Watched Dune. It was a fun take on it. Hope we get the rest of the planned trilogy now. Wish they planned on going as far as Children of Dune, but will take Dune Messiah as the end if that is what we can get.
Not entirely faithful, but pretty good take that hits the right beats. Book 1 will be two films, each about 2.5 hours. Dune Messiah a third film.

FINALLY GOT TO SEE THE SUICIDE SQUAD AT THR CINEMA!!! I am so damn happy!!! I loved it. It was hilarious, and I just enjoyed the movie so much. Also John Cena violently murdering people in funny ways - was just glorious.
Also saw Free Guy - another funny and just feel good movie. Definitely enjoyed it and as a gamer I felt more appreciation for the little gamer Easter eggs. Was fantastic.

Currently watching Dune, easily the best movie of 2022 and the scifi very much of the same calibre as Star Wars or the Matrix. Very impressed that they had the courage to do this movie which isn't some light weight crowd pleaser.
It's my first exposure to the dune world, so far so good.

Dune was great. Not happy where Denis Villeneuve plans to end the trilogy, but glad he is doing it.
Plan is to split Dune into two movies and do dune Messiah as the final film. No plans to finish the book trilogy so Denis Villeneuve will end things with the end of Dune Messiah, which is a going to be a pretty dark ending.
Timothée Chalamet may be the best Paul we had. Rebecca Ferguson should be interesting as Lady Jessica. And Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen is a great cast. Supporting cast is just fantastic and are the effects. Dune never looked better and the world feels fleshed out.
Tons of stuff they did not fit in about the people of Dune and the cruelty of Harkonnen rule, but that may still come.
One big critique I have is Paul not using the litany against fear and it being changed as Fear is the Mindkiller is kind of iconic.
Def should read the book Incy. The first book is a classic. I suggest the next two as well to complete the Paul megaarc. Moreso since this series will not get into his son much who is a super cool character.
The original series in total is 7 books five written by Herbert, two finished by his son Simon who then fleshed out the universe greatly. Really need to read the last 4 but could not get into God Emperor of Dune but read where the series goes and now want to finish it as it is crazy.
And it is obvious this book heavily inspired Star Wars. And ironically one of the Star War universe writers helps Herbert's son finish the Dune novels.
But yeah can read the first book on it's own too. Goes more into the faith and political stuff going on, as well as the ecology and politics revolving around changing the climate of Dune. Book gets a lot of hype because it really is that good.

Also if you do not want to wait years for the rest of the series, Sci Fi's Dune and Children of Dune miniseries are faithful adaptions of the story. Not as pretty but solid nonetheless.

So we finally watched Halloween (2007), as well as Halloween II (2009). While I can appreciate what Rob Zombie was going for, these are right up there with the original and Curse of Michael Myers as my least favorite movies in the franchise. Having said that, Tyler Mane (Sabretooth in the first X-Men movie), as Michael Myers was great, especially given his size. Also really liked Brad Dourif (Chucky), as the sheriff in these movies as well

I'm seeing two movies at the cinema today, currently waiting for Shang-Chi to start.
Just saw No Time to Die and I will stand by my opinion that there hasn't been a good Bond movie since Casino Royale. The first 45 minutes were great and the rest of the movie was a slow slide into depressing, forgettable, overly sentimental nonsense. I'm kind of tired of franchises being written for by people with no respect for the source material. This is what happened with the Star Wars prequels and sequels.

The full preview for the Eternals on the big screen looks much better than the original teaser did, still I think the trailers for this film haven't created an urgency to the story

Okay, for me Shang-Chi is the best Marvel movie since Doctor Strange. I didn't know anything about it going in, but as a fan of Kung-Fu movies, this nailed the genre perfectly.
Excellent mid-credit scene. Saw the after credits scene coming a bit cringe but good

Dune was a very enjoyable movie, always a big scary with big budget sci-fi building for a trilogy, as these days it seems outside of super heroes and Star Wars, even the good ones fail to meet financial expectations and just sort of go away. Hopefully this trilogy comes to fruition so we get a full story.

Upon reflection after seeing the latest one yesterday, is that despite the first 45 minutes being amazing.... I hated the movie passionately.

The Empty Man was... awesome? Very interesting? Unique? I don't know what verbage to use really or how to describe it. It's kind of a smorgasbord of genres and themes with some chief influences being Lovecraft/Nietzsche. It tows that line between cheesy and creepy really damn well.
There are so many scenes that could have and maybe even should have fallen flat but they didn't. It gets under your skin through subtlety one moment and then through sheer visual mindfuckery the next.
Highly recommended if you're into spoopy shit. It's not perfect by any means (there are some try-hard scenes and questionable dialogue at times) but the good outweighs the bad I thought. Worth experiencing at least once; Don't let the 2 hour runtime dissuade you.
EDIT: Also, Stephen Root has to be one of the most underrated actors of all-time. I have never witnessed a bad performance from this man. He ALWAYS knocks it out of the park. If there's one complaint I have for this film: not enough Stephen Root.

Halloween Kills: It’s bloody, it’s violent and I loved (almost) every second of it. Having said that, the people of Haddonfield are dumb AF, for instance the first responders that take on Michael, why in God’s name would they take him one-on-one, surely if they attacked him together the results would have been better. Also Laurie’s daughter deserved to die as well, bitch stabs him in the back, instead of through the back of his head. Legit, everyone in Haddonfield got what was coming to them, fuck them, I'm looking forward to Michael killing more people in Halloween Ends. 2021 Movie Rankings 25. Locked Down 24. The Marksman 23. A little late to the party but finally watched Midsommar...
I'm not going to be eating pie anytime soon... Or walking near cliffs... Or befriending silver-tongued Swedes...
Time to go scrub my brain pallette with a cleansing dumb comedy before bed.

That's unfortunate. I quite enjoyed it. I love Bond and I loved Daniel Craig's take on the character and the fact that there was character development for Bond and other characters during these films which we hadn't seen save for maybe on Her Majesty's Secret Service or Timothy Dalton's films. I don't really place his films within the same realm of Connery, Moore or Brosnan films though. Still haven't seen Shang-Chi. Maybe this week or next. I am very 'on the fence' about The Eternals. Never was a huge fan of them in the comics and this has the makings to be amazing or disastrous. Right now from everything I've seen and heard, I'm learning towards disastrous, but we'll see. DUNE! I loved the original and the mini series' so I can't wait to see this as by all accounts it is fantastic.

I'm hoping they find an equally great person to play Feyd-Rautha as they did in Sting (of all people) who managed to capture Feyd's sadistic nature.
I assume we might not see him until the second movie though.

Hereditary (Ari Aster, 2018)
A friend recommended Hereditary to me which is the first film of Ari Aster, who also directed Midsommar, recently mentioned in this thread.
Hereditary is an excellent horror movie. Really took me on a wild ride. Feels like a film that rewards multiple viewings because I feel like I only understood like a third of the content. I'm sure there's lots of hidden subtext, particularly with the doll houses, that I'm missing. But this film is amazing, so many fantastic shots, solid plot, and lots of very creepy stuff happening in the background.
Really fresh and unconventional horror movie. Looking forward to seeing more of Mr. Aster.
