Elvis - as stupid as it sounds, there honestly wasn’t enough Elvis in it. Austin Butler was absolutely fantastic in the role. The cinematography/editing/costumes etc. was all incredible. I was honestly pretty disappointed in Tom Hanks performance, especially the god awful accent. Overall it was a fantastic movie I was just kind of expecting something different.

Cry Macho: Woof, Eastwood should have ended with the Mule, went out on a high note. This is honestly one of his worst movies, and has to be his worst performance, aged out of even the grizzled old man role of Gran Torino, just didn't have anything more to give here. There wasn't a single decent performance to be found in the entire flick. Justifiable in 15:17 to Paris where they casted the actual people to perform the roles, but no reason they couldn't get legitimate actors for this one. Just horrible across the board. I can't think of a single good thing about this movie other than it eventually ends.

Minions The Rise of Gru - It was ok. My nephew (8) loved it. Its not bad but just not as good as the other Minion movies. This was the First Minion movie I saw at the theater. Is there some kind of game that you clap, chant, cheer, and other things during the movie that I'm not aware of? At random parts of the movie the majority of the people there did this kind of stuff. Like every time you saw a Minion butt they would say or do something. Got kind of annoying after awhile.

Rewatched Ender's Game. Really wish they did this as a TV show instead. Could have fleshed it out and done the Shadows books following it. They just had to cut so much out, particular all of the revelations from Ender's Shadow. They did do a good job promoting some of the concepts from Speaker for the Dead in the film though. Wish Card was not an dick about adapting Speaker and beyond.

I enjoyed Minions. A step ahead of the last Despicable Me and way ahead of the first Minions show. I mean it’s definitely below most Pixar stuff, but I like a cartoon going for the laugh a minute style rather than the slower “make this have some feeling” stuff.
90 minutes is another positive. Perfect length.

Watched raiders of the lost ark a few months ago so finally followed up.
Temple of Doom
Willie ruins this film, I know she is there to be the damsel in distress but she is absolutely useless and irritating. There’s a scene where she screens non-stop for seemingly two full minutes, should have been in a horror film instead. Plane is crashing and it’s made clear Indy & short round can’t fly a plane. So she just screams for help in the empty cockpit, maybe give it a go yourself like Indy did if your life is on the line? I know if this film was (current year) she’d best Jones in everything and overshadow him without explanation but this was a textbook example of how to write an offensive female character. Same can be said for a lot of the villains.
The traps and that sort of stuff were cool, minecart seen was incredible..can see it’s influence on donkey Kong countryz
The Last Crusade
The second best one behind raiders, enjoyed Sean Connery’s inclusion. Can definitely see George Lucas’ involvement in the film with a lot of shots & dialogue.Loved the biblical stuff.
The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
This wasn’t AS bad as people make it out to be, then again it’s not like I thought the other films were amazing, but it wasn’t good either. The fridge thing is just as dumb as the life raft thing in temple of doom. It somehow manages to feel dated (despite being much newer than other films) yet unconvincing of the era they are trying to portray.
Idk maybe I was expecting too much from these films as it seems like they were just the fun popcorn flicks of their day, not cinematic masterpieces. That being said there is so much gorgeous scenery in this films that are well shot and the ridiculous traps are always fun.
Can see how much the films influenced popular culture with stuff like Tomb Raider and Uncharted, very clear to see in the Uncharted film.

Midsommar (Ari Aster, 2019)
A lot of horror movies are scary in the traditional sense: you may jump a few times, you'll be shocked and surprised but you'll have a good laugh about it afterwards. No harm done.
Midsommar is not one of those movies. It's a highly unsettling slowburn that becomes outright terrifying at the end, the incredibly messed up things that happen are presented casually, like a documentary, yet it's all there in plain sight. Nothing is hidden. There are no real surprises either, no real twists. It's predictable, but that doesn't make it any less horrifying. If anything, the inevitability makes it even more so. It makes your skin crawl. It leaves an unsettling feeling that crawls under your skin for days. At least, that's how I feel right now, as the credits roll. I doubt it will actually last days, but that was no doubt one of the scariest experiences I've had for a long time. Pure dread.
All done with atmosphere, subtle storytelling, gradual escalation. It's The Wickerman, but in my opinion crafted with a lot more care, nunance, and visual tricks, and somehow an even better climax, both a homage and an enhancement. In fact the visual shots in this film are some of the most powerful I've seen, and some of the most disturbing.
Between Midsommar and Hereditary, it's clear Aster is a force to be reckoned with in the genre. Two different takes on horror, equally effective. Dare I say Midsommar is the best film of its kind I've ever seen? It's horrific, but brilliant at the same time.

Bob’s Burgers The Movie Made burgers and watched this as a family last night. It was ok. I was expecting more if I’m being honest. Only a few laugh out loud moments but still fun overall. I hated the musical numbers though, which is weird because they’re usually pretty solid on the show. The whole “villain is revealed and sings his plan” number towards the end was awful and went on waaayyyy too long.
Also the movie needed more Teddy.
6.5/10

Thor Love & Thunder: Style of comedy doesn't work for me. Watched both of these on the plane so issues may not be films fault: J.Edgar Hoover Really enjoyed this, Leo always delivers. I know very little about the IRL events surrounding his life so don't know how accurate it was. Also incredible dark visually, couldn't see actors faces at times due to shadow etc even at max brightness, which was probably just my screen. Wild Heart: No subtitles so I couldn't understand a lot of what Jeff Bridges was saying, which is the case for most alcoholics so he played the part well. Unlike a lot of these sort of movies I'm glad the main character had consequences for his actions. If anything Maggie's character underreacted, I would have murdered someone if they lost my child. Then again I wouldn't leave a child with an old alcoholic man to begin with, so I'm glad they split for good..even if she seems him platonically again at the end
Still had 20 minutes or so of King Richard to watch but I was invested, can see why Williams' family was so upset with Will Smith's oscar slap when Richard did his best to remain non-violent despite the circumstances he had to deal with.

Dare I say Midsommar is the best film of its kind I've ever seen? It's horrific, but brilliant at the same time. Midsommar is what the original Wickerman was aiming for, before all of the cuts and editing. Not sure if you seen the American version, they made some heavy cuts to it. UK version was better but still had scenes changed. Def a TRUE horror film. Most of what people think is horror, is really suspense. This film dropped the suspense and went to leave people unsettled for a long time. Really glad he got to put his uncut version out so fast as well. Disappointment Blvd is shaping up to be wild. Got Joaquin Phoenix to lead it. This will be a horror comedy though. No clue what will air, but he planned the uncut version to be 4 hours originally.

Both incredibly boring and bland films I have ever seen. None of it is scary, it’s just weird. I’m glad some people like them as Emperor clearly enjoyed them but honestly are we watching the same movies? Watching paint dry has more excitement in it.

Thor Love and Thunder Was hilarious, I really enjoy the humour of this and Ragnarok. Very Aussie humour. I was very disappointed that Guardians of the Galaxy were barley in it considering it was advertised as being their movie too. There is quite a few things in the movie I would’ve changed, but for the most part I did enjoy it. Unlike everyone else, I actually through those goats were hilarious too

I get you sandylea, normally I also get bored to tears by a drawn out film like Midsommar but it hit all the right notes. The prologue with the suicides and relationship issues hooked me in, and the mesmerising imagery of the Swedish pagan camp kept me hooked. The plot was slow but there were enough shocking/surprising moments scattered around to avoid it getting too dry. Interesting how you and System contrast with Thor's humour

Also happy to see someone agree with my love of Midsommar. It may be my favorite movie I’ve seen in the last three years. I didn’t like Hereditary though, it was impressive but also bored me through most of it.

The Green Knight Started out loving it. About 90 minutes in I wanted to kill myself rather than watch this boring ass movie.
Here’s the rage tweets I wrote:
The Green Knight is all the boring elf parts from Lord Of The Rings stretched into a 140 minute movie.
The Green Knight should come with a disclaimer that if you aren’t high on mushrooms you’re going to hate this movie.
Visuals were incredible but after an hour scenery just doesn’t cut it. Something needs to happen to keep the viewer invested.
The Green Knight is like if The Witcher series was crammed into one movie and also sucked ass.

I watched I Want You Back on the weekend and enjoyed it - definitely a cut above your average streaming rom-com. I've always liked Jenny Slate and I know there are quite a few It's Always Sunny fans here so you'll enjoy Charlie Day. They have strong chemistry and definitely carry the whole thing on their shoulders because the supporting characters are a little bit basic. I'd say the main strength is the dialogue which is impressively natural, and had me genuinely LOLing quite a few times, particularly in the first hour.
tldr: a fun Friday night movie to watch with your bae.

Thought I'd already slammed Green Knight, but couldn't find it in a search, so I guess it was too boring to even remember to knock it. Looked great, really intriguing start, then it just sort of runs all over the place without anything interesting to do until it ultimately ends on a "meh." So disappointing.

Has anyone seen Gray Man? It keeps popping up in my recommendations, but I don't have high confidence in Netflix when it comes to movies. It's one of the okayiest movies I've watched recently, if you've seen other Netflix actioners you know about what to expect, just this one has Chris Evans chewing scenery. Not really bad by any stretch, just a decent "shut off your brain and watch things go boom" watch. Fairly solid action, cast is pretty solid top to bottom, there's worse ways to spend 2 hours.
